these slimmed-down re-tellings are great for those who forgot the story or don't plan on picking up the class. Well told!
I love this recap, but it keeps reminding me of a bad healer I got that refused to do anything but heal and everyone else praised her choice because it her “sub” as a healer main it hurts watching people play so inefficient
i like this. You should put White Mage into the title (This is what i was looking for but it was very low in search as I looked for White Mage). Just trying to get you more clicks 🙂
I love it. I have not checked yet but I hope you have done more like this!!
One of the things that is fascinating about this questline is how not only does she refuse to learn about nature and chooses to only heal, she is healing people wrong.
I did this questline right after I did the thamaturge one. The parallels I found were huge between Sylphie and the Cocobros. Now, on the surface it sounds like they are exact opposites, and they are. However, Sylphie is using her own aether to heal but doesn't recognize it because she just refuses to learn about nature and how conjurers borrow the aether to cast their spells from the world itself and not from their own inner pool. Her mother died because she accidentally drained her own aether healing others.
The thamaturge guild questline has a similar thing happening with the youngest brother wanting to be a thamaturge and being out and out denied the opportunity by his brothers because they recognize that he just doesn't have enough aether to wield thamaturgy safely and would kill himself.
Sylphie and Cocobusi are alike and different. Sylphie has an overabundance of aether but is using it inefficiently because she is solely relying on her own power and has not learned astral and umbral techniques to regulate her aether the way a thamaturge would. Cocobusi has very little aether but if he learned how to tap into the aether of the world the way the conjurers do (and black mages) he absolutely would be able to stand with his brothers because he could borrow the necessary power rather than rely on his own.
In the end, Sylphie learns to appreciate nature and begins to hear the elementals and grows to love nature and to tap into it to borrow power the way she was supposed to and Cocobusi learned to be content with what he had so long as his brothers were safe and he could use his own talents to help them through alchemy (and apparently culinary skills if you talk to them after the quest is over).
