FFXIV Clip Channel The Fashionista DEMONETIZED?! What is Going on YouTube???

FFXIV clip channel The Fashionista has had their channeled demonetized today to everyone’s surprise. The channel has followed all TOS except for one rule about sharing content on your channel that is not yours even with permission. So many other channels break this rule and get away with it (clip compilations, etc) and its damning to see how Lulu’s channel gets hit for it. I ask that you support the channel in any way you can by following the links below:

  1. That's just crazy what the hell is wrong with YT. Lulu and the rest of their group have done so much for the FF community showing many new FF streamers or many unknown streamers and getting them many views. That's how I discovered you along with many others, YT really needs to get there shit together Fashionista should be on the recommended to watch not demonetized.

  2. I always saw these clip channels or clip compilations and felt they were walking a fine line
On one hand they generate attention for said channels
On the other hand, they are making money off of other people for little effort of their own
Like I know Vargskelethor is okay with people pirating his music, but people put his music up, and them monetize it, and then put ad-fly links to his channel and fellow creators and he just says "It's being a fucking asshole" to paraphrase him. He is even okay with clippers, but I think there is a line, and it's not exactly CLEAR for everyone and everyone's preferences, especially if you clip multiple channels

I am really not trying to take a side here, but I can definitely see how these clip channels are in a risky, grey area of youtube

  3. Poor Fashionista… I know quite a number of new people coming into this channel came from Lulu's highlights. It's quite sad to see this happen, especially since they also make a lot of non-clip content (less nowadays because they were taking a break of it, so it was highlight-focused instead).
Hopefully they can get the support they need!

  4. the biggest problem with YouTube is YouTube. They have set themselves up so hard to protect the claim that there are fake companies that do nothing but claim as much as they can regardless of the truth and if YouTube ever does anything about it, the process is so draining on the creator and takes so long that these fake claims steal millions from other channels and it kills channels.

  5. Support the fashionista in any way you can. Lulu and her crew work hard on their channel and have done so for 2 years. They have helped garner interest in ffxiv to veterans and newcomers alike and for that im very thankful

  6. After reading this news on the Fashionista Channel, it looks like the "platform overlords" are trying to limit promotion and diversion of customers a source of content on places like Twitch. Though this maybe a Conspiracy Theory.

  7. So weird. I've seen so many people get hyped and even thank Lulu for including them in her vids and bringing more eyes to their channel. She doesnt even show very much of a particular streamer. Out of multiple hours of streaming you may get a 20 second clip of a single moment that day. It literally incentivises you to go watch their streams if you like what you saw. Such a bummer.

  8. I love LuLu but I think the problem is most of the content isn't theirs. Just lifted from streams. I don't think most clip channels stay monetized if it's not their own clips. I don't agree with it but is what it is.

  9. What's mind-boggling to me is that everyone goes Pikachu-faced every time this happens. Clips are not fair-use, and never have been. There is nothing transformative about uploading clip compilations.

  10. As someone who clips just for fun, I feel so bad for them. They gave exposure to so many new FFXIV streamers. And it takes time to compile as many clips as they do. And they always give credit. Hope it gets resolved.

  11. Idk who these people are tbh 😕 but that's unfortunate.

Edit: Oh, it's a clip channel? O.o well no wonder then lol. Tbh I've never seen much value in them, they upload already popular people to make money off it and then claim they're giving them advertising lol.

  12. Devil's Advocate here. I kinda get youtube's perspective here(not justifying it). Lulu gets clips from their main competitor(permissions are irrelevant to this argument), creates their videos and gets paid(by youtube) to promote content for(largely) their competitor(twitch, if that wasn't obvious), while youtube is trying to grow the same market on their own platform.

The clause Lulu cited in their post this morning sounds like it's worded and used in a way similar to how FFXIV uses their "no mods" clause. They don't really enforce it, unless they feel they need to.

I don't like it either, but I don't think Youtube is entirely in the wrong here. I really hope Lulu finds a way around this roadbump.

  13. If you're running a clip channel about a singular streamer who already has a clip channel. Then yeah, that's not okay. But if you're making clip compilations, of many streamers, or providing a clip channel for someone who doesn't already have one, then the value add is the discoverability. It's how I found you, Chad. And many vtubers, dear god my recommended feed is infested.

  14. maybe I have to big of a tin foil hat on. But this just feels target towards the fashionista. And by targeted I mean malicious intent towards lulu. I know you talk about this in the video but so many clip channels that don't have the permission of massive streamers who don't need the publicity. And this small FFXIV channel gets flagged?

  15. Youtube isn't our friend.
    Google isn't our friend.
    Alphabet isn't our friend.
They should be broken up as the monopoly, and as part of the big tech trust, they have formed.

  16. its also not only a clips channel i found them looking for glamours and watching there top 5 glamours so having there whole channel demonetized is weird since they have other things on the channel

  17. Just did some thinking, they might have gotten hit for the Cowboy Bebop like intro and I know its a meme but the lyrics to Rick Astlys meme song are on the intro screen too.
Just a thought but they may have gotten clapped for that

  18. THe problem this comes from are reaction channels/streamers. Individuals who have their face in a corner and deadpan stare into the camera while unedited and uncredited content runs on their videos/streams. They also sometimes eat. But they don't transform the content.
And here lies the clue. the content shown, if taken from another source, must be not only credited, but also transformed by either edits or commentary.
Now Lulu seems to have the full support of the people she gets her clips from, so i am confused his got flagged and demonetized. Maybe putting a bit more in-clip editing into the compilation can help.

  19. fuckin whack that YT does this. supporting them no matter what comes, they have shown us nothing but good faith bringing ffxiv community together. Thank you for creating this video about it.

  20. It will be hard, but a sizeable alternative to YouTube must come into existence.
Since YouTube has been lacking any major competition for years, they've been getting away with more and more acts of injustice.
Heck, content creators that are exposing certain malicious individuals have been nuked off this platform for doing the right thing!
While the actual criminals are still walking free…
(Example: MamaMax situation, a bit too much to mention all of it here)

Having to rely on external sources of income (e. g. Patreon), while YouTube itself has monetization for it's own creators, or should have it at least, is just a sign of a faulty system that doesn't work like it should (anymore).
Of course, if a competitor arises, that in reality is just another tyrant, we would just trade one tyrant for another.
But if that contender would bank off YouTube's drawbacks and win the trust of the content creators, they would be fools to just throw all of that away. But companies are companies, and things like that are sadly all too common today.
