FF14 New Player after 15 years of WoW – Joining a Free Company, Manor Dungeon and Vacation – Day 8

FF14 First Impressions:
I’ve played WoW for over 15 years but given the state of WoW right now and the lack of content, I’m trying FFXIV for the first time and documenting my journey throughout the game.

Throughout I will be comparing FFXIV to WoW and referencing the differences between the two. Obviously, I do have some bias, but I will try and keep an open mind all the way. As always these are just my thoughts and opinions.

Also if you have any tips for new players in FFXIV please let me as I’m probably making a lot of mistakes. Apologies for the lack of actual content in this one, I just wanted to share more of the community side of things!

  1. Funny you mention it Haukke reminds you of a haunted mansion…
Stick around til the Halloween in-game event and you'll be in for a treat!

all that aside I love that youre taking your time. I dont think there's a right or wrong way, really—– but end game isnt going anywhere. You can only play through your 1st time once.
(there's new game+ but it's not the same haha)

    anyway welcome to ffxiv!

  2. Hey there man, I don't know if you know this, but in the settings there's something you can check so that you auto skip cutscenes you've already seen. It's convenient. As a FF14 player of 6 years I'm enjoying your videos and I hope you continue with them.

  3. For what it's worth, I don't think you're really meant to decipher the overarching story with the black, robed mages yet other than they're probably antagonists and they're keeping a close eye on you. It'll all make sense in time though!

  5. I knew it, when you said you like that dark horror-ish design, I knew you were going to like Haukke xD. I sucked at tanking that so much at the beginning because I always got lost and I still don't know the mechanics (especially if you can ignore the lamps or not) of the last boss but yeah.

A tip: you can only use every triple triad card once but get them several times, and you can sell those to another clerk there to get MGP (don't know if you knew that already I found out later on)

Also… I have a feeling that you will eventually get distracted by Blue Mage as well… challenge: get as many Skills as possible without the help of other players (for leveling help is ok)

  6. Honestly, there is still a crafting system that lets you mass craft. You just have to successfully make the thing once and then you can quick craft all you want.

It's literally how I leveled all my crafters to 80. I would just set it to quick craft 99 things and go afk while it auto crafted. I'd come back and see I gained a couple levels. Go back out, gather more materials, rinse and repeat til you're max level. Easy.

  7. Honestly I’m genuinely just glad you’re enjoying yourself. These little snippets of your journey in Eorzea remind me of when I started playing so many years ago and all of the little “OH WOW” moments I had adventuring. Love that nostalgia. I’ll be keeping an eye out for you, enjoy your time and Welcome Warrior of Light 😌🙌🏿

  8. I started playing the game 4 days ago. Played wow since tbc. Maybe I'm doing something wrong with the game because I havent spoke to a single person yet. At the point in the story where you choose your chocobo

  9. Ahaha its amazing that you put 2 and 2 together, and figured out the name of Lahabrea before the story got around to it! Ahahahah! Love this! // Also, FC-houses are designed by its members. And you can rent a room in the FC-house. I am enjoying your child-like enthusiasm exploring everything!

  10. Not sure if you've already been told this, but in Character Configuration –> Control Settings –> General there is an option to skip Cutscenes if you've seen them before. That one took my friends and I a while to figure out.

  11. Im a vet, but casual player. Theres so much more to do then just raid, thats what keeps me coming back to the game. Take it from me, invest the time to find a good free company not just settle for one. If you dont fit in keep looking till u find the right one, it makes life so much easier.

  12. A thing on Triple Triad:
Make one deck that is the weakest you possibly can. There are those special rules that apply to some NPC's and some regions/times, like Reverse. Reverse will make lower beat higher, so it's well worth having one "bad" deck to use on those.
There are a few other "special rules" that sometimes apply, but I don't wanna bog you down with a giant guide or anything, but the Reverse one is very simple to understand and build a deck around 🙂

  13. So much of the stuff you're enjoying here are all things I've long since wanted the game to double-down on. I'd have loved to move beyond just circuits of 3-4 nodes at which you click on a chosen loot choice, wait, move to next, repeat. That and maybe some sense of progression or competition among the NPC guildmates, beyond just the few class questlines for which a single given character may be central.
