  1. You can tell this is being inflated by WoW refugees when the best mount in the game, the Fatter Cat, has been in the store for years and nobody batted an eye over it. Yet an ugly gundam mecha from Alexander gets added and every one of them is dropping their monocle over it? Right…

  2. No one cares about store mounts in FFXIV because they never affect the quality of the game. The reason FFXIV players are mad this time is more nuanced than WoW refugees realize. Its because its Cruise Chaser. Its not about the quality of effects or the number of seats. Just like how no one cares about emote #45 in the store but people are pissed about Emet-Selch's snap. Its fine to be mad about the mount as long as you're mad for the right reasons, and not just because daddy Blizz hurt you the very presence of store mounts gives you PTSD.

  3. I’m buying this mount it’s cool I work full time i don’t smoke or drink so I’m spending my money on a game I enjoy playing the devs are awesome they actually care about our experience and they deserve a little extra on the side and it really is a nice mount 👍

  4. Cruise Chaser is an iconic raid boss who happened to get reskinned for use in PvP in Rival Wings. The mount key has been datamined for several months and many people disliked the idea of it being put in as a PvP reward, because typically more unique mounts in PvP are only available in The Feast (ranked), which means only 100 people per data server would be able to get it.

To put it bluntly PvP in FFXIV does not generate any revenue, so its realistically 100% side content. This is why it gets little in the way of updates, balance passes, and content development.

Now to nip a problem in the bud, the FFXIV store revenue is what the Dev's use to upgrade server infrastructure and develop side content. This is unlike WoW where it seems like cash/gold shop money goes right into CEO bonuses. So the comparison is plainly bunk. FFXIV does not have an unlimited or absurd budget like WoW, and their margins for taking risk are less because of how 1.0 bombed, ARR was a massive risk which has paid off, but Square is extremely cautious about making the same mistake (at least in terms of FFXIV). This by no means is to say they have a small budget, but its plainly obvious that side content is only developed when they have free hands, i.e. when an expansion is nearing its end or they're in between mainline patches. Store purchases if looked at in a cynical light seem absurd, hundreds of items worth an asinine amount of money, but realistically most people who buy things from the store are only going to buy a few things and frankly its up to them to do what they want with their money.

Ultimately getting angry over this is pointless.
In an ideal world the mount would've dropped from the Savage version of the Raid. With the re-skinned variants being PvP specific rewards.
They would differ in that the Raid mount plays the Raid's specific music, and the PvP mounts would play the Rival Wings/Astralagos combat theme.

However this isn't an ideal world, its reality.

The reality is PvP doesn't make money, and thus can't support itself for further development. So the cash shop is actually required to have more side content, i.e.
The Gold Saucer, Fishing Expeditions, PvP, etc.

I will say it wouldn't hurt for the FFXIV devs to release the reskinned mounts as Rival Wings and/or Astralagos achievement rewards (there is a red and a blue variant, so one per mode type for the achievement could work).

  5. I don't have an issue with store mounts in FFXIV. The FFXIV Mogstation is what funded the new servers for Oceana. It's not like the WoW store where everything just goes towards Bobby Kotick's next yacht. The FFXIV devs put the money back into the game and its infrastructure.

  6. It's different buying a mount from the shop when the company youre buying it from actually listens to the players and creates quality content. Unlike Blizzard that takes that cash shop money and gives the players what they didn't want and trash talks them like a bunch of simps.

  7. wow refugees fail to understand this money isnt going to be spent on another yatch for bobby. i for one love the game and its team so much i would buy everything in the store to support them further if i could. please stop griefing

  8. I only cared about the cash shop when blizzard started selling the wow token, I'm giving the FF team the benefit of the doubt that they won't make the same mistake.

  9. Asmon. I've watched a lot of your content, and I probably won't stop watching your content, because I think you have some really good insights and thought provoking perspectives on certain subject matters. But I really can't understand that your statement of "I love the game", how that super seeds what you've clearly don't morally agree with what's going/gone on with Blizzard. I too share many valuable memories from the past, thunderfurry in vanilla wow, mind control people when they going to MC with full world buffs….I get it, but damm, I can't support a business that treats other human beings with a lower measuring stick.

  10. Not all cash shops are equal. Path of Exile, Guild Wars 2 and FFXIV cash shops, the cosmetic items I see it as supporting the devs directly. Like a tip or gifted sub to content creators.

  11. WoW players when Blizzard adds store mounts: Fuck this game! How dare you?

FFXIV players (former WoW players) when SQ adds store mounts: Thank you! Fuck anyone who complains!

  12. I disagree with cash shops in sub games.
Either f2p and cash shop or charge me a correct sub to access all content

Dont charge me a sub that funds the entire game. Then slap me in the face with a cash shop.

If its to supplement lack of content later causing subs to drop. Fix your content problem.

  13. I bought one thing from a cash shop: the "Lil' XT" mini pet back in Wrath. I saw other players with it, and I instantly loved it because it was so loud and annoying. After I bought it, they proceed to "fix" him, because his loud volume was a bug. It took me more than a week to get a refund. Lesson learned. I never bought anything at any cash shop in any game ever again.

  14. A lot of the vocal complainers are from the NA and EU servers of course. But the thing is that these mounts have likely already been in the game over in the Japanese and Korean servers. They have a lot of different events and a lot of promotional stuff going on; like buying 40 liters of flavored water or something and they get a code for a mount.
All of these mounts eventually find their ways into the mogstation store for us. We're still spending an equivalent of money on them, only we're buying them directly. It's because that in a lot of the world (specially the EU) doing such a product promotion is damn near impossible.

  15. If Blizzard or SE were smart, they would release a free new mount to players every patch to make them shut up. Like seriously, how hard would it be to give one for free. It took them months to give players a fucking tree mount in WoW. Every patch they add so many mounts that it really isn't hard to pick one out and be like "Here you guys go".

  16. Mounts from the cash shop put money into the game, sure.
But having mounts drop in-game also puts money into the game, by increasing the quality of the game. Better game = people willing to pay money to play it.
An example, I won't play FF because it has a cash shop. So their mount has actually lost them money, in this case.

  17. The money that the cash shop brings in goes right back into the game, so I never really cared. If I like it and can afford it, I’ll get it. If not, no big deal.
