  1. Have you watched the Noclip documentary? Its a really good complement to this one. SpeakersNetwork takls a lot about the player perspective and gets into dettails about how it was 1.0, and Noclip actually went and interviewed Square, so you can see what their perspective on it was.

  2. Will you please let me burn this game?

    No.

Will you please let me burn this game?

    No.

Will you please let me burn this game?

    Okay Sure.

BURN IT! THE GAME, THE SERVER, THE ENGINE, BURN IT ALL!

Yoshi-P is our primal, And We lavish him with all the Crysta(l) in the world. xD

  3. Well Yoshi gave the company two choices. We either take a huge risk or we lose a lot of money and a damaged reputation.. they chose to take the risk and it paid off! Bobby Kotick would never agree to such a thing.

  4. The sad part is.. even though it was absolute trash… being part of this game now, makes me want to have been there then. Yes, it would have been a nightmare, but it's more than just gaming history, it's actual ingame lore and those people were part of that.

The great Goobue wall seemed Hella cool and getting to be in the ending Credits and special tattoo is just epic.

  5. This is the best ff14 story. I think the big sway for the reborn decision because it's a numbered final fantasy if they abandon this it will forever leave a stain in the name of SE biggest bill board for any future mention of final fantasy

  6. There's a mythology to FFXIV that's reflective of the mythology of the franchise as a whole– the idea that the series is called 'Final Fantasy' because at the time of it's development and release, Square was up against the ropes and giving it one last swing. Regardless of the veracity of that myth, the fact that it echoes so strongly with FFXIV is no accident, I think.

A Realm Reborn was such an incredible gamble. If ARR had not been good, if enough players had not been willing to come back and give the game another chance, it would have failed. Perhaps it should have failed, regardless.

But all these years later, if you love the game, it's impossible to not cheer for Yoshi-P and the devs. The lengths they were willing to go to (and the chances they were willing to take) to get the ship back on course is inspiring.

For me, that's part of the magic of FFXIV. That it exists at all is because both sides of the equation, developer and audience, were willing to give it another go. So many incredible moments over these last years would never have happened it all if either variable hadn't been willing to see it through.

  7. It is frustrating that the other MMO Yoshi-P works on, even before FF14, never was brought to the west. Especially considering that is an MMO belonging to one of my fav RPG franchises. x.x (I'm speaking of Dragon Quest X)
