I never thought I would love FFXIV this much… I’m not longer addicted to World of Warcraft but through my journey of trying other MMOs, Final Fantasy 14 sticks out as one of my favorites so far.

World Of Warcraft Addict Now Hooked On FFXIV…
Final Fantasy 14 Reminds Me Of When I First Tried WoW because of the quaint little towns at the beginning of both games. The warm sense of Goldshire when first created my Human Warrior back in 2006. The music of the human starting area and the screeches of the kobolds. Final Fantasy 14 gave me a similar vibe with the music, lush forests, and the quaint little town. The NPCs were very well made, and the graphics compared to some of today’s popular RPG titles. FF14 reminds me more of an RPG than an MMORPG, and so far is delivering on all fronts as a great game I want to return to.
I’ve played WoW since 2006, 2 months before The Burning Crusade came out. In this video, you will find some clips of me trying out FF14 and the vibe FFXIV gave me after a few of my live streams.

Hey man. If you ever need a break from Eorzea, do so. 🙂 there is plenty to do here – loads of it. But instead of burning out, take a beak, enjoy other games. Whenever you decide to come back, we'll be here 🙂
Glad to see you trying new things and having a good time doing it. If you're on Levi, stop by and say hi!
I had to quit WoW a month before Shadowlands's prepatch because I wasn't satisfied with how the beta test was going, and it was concerning that the devs stopped communicating with us when it was clear that Shadowlands was going to be delayed. So instead of jumping into Shadowlands, I jumped into Night City instead and played the living hell out of Cyberpunk 2077 for the next two months. It was a cleansing experience for me and reminded me that there are other games out there that I can play, now that I don't have to worry about FOMO.
I tried playing for half an hour every night for a week half-way through Battle for Azeroth and I hated it. I hated the graphics and art design. I hated the GCD. I hated that I was only level 18 after a week and the only thing I could cast was some rock spell and an air-based DoT. I came up with a dozen reasons why I hated it, and uninstalled.
June, last year, I decided to give FFXIV one more shot. The free trial thing was going and my free trial account was still playable, so I stuck with it this time. What was different now was that I didn't have to worry about losing progress in WoW or missing out on something because I wasn't playing WoW anymore. In fact by that time, I had been boycotting Activision-Blizzard. This time, I didn't have the dreaded WoW Brain where I felt I had to race to level cap to actually enjoy the game. This time I'd take my time, watch every cinematic, read every quest dialog, and just immerse myself. I figured that by the time I hit the end of Heavensward, I'd be satisfied and quit, then move on to other things.
Then I experienced the Parting Glass quest at the end of ARR's main quest chain. My jaw dropped. I was completely floored. By the time I had finished that lengthy cinematic, I realized that I had grown attached to the NPCs that I had been seeing every day and interacting with, occasionally even fighting along-side. It was a revelation to me. I had cared more about these NPCs – even minor ones – more than I had ever cared about Sylvanas or Saurfang or any WoW character. And I also realized that the story revolved around me. I was a big part of the story.
While in WoW, you're leaned upon by the big heavy NPCs to do a lot of the lifting, your story and character is nowhere in WoW's storyline. You're completely absent. In FFXIV, your trials and efforts are validated by the NPCs around you, even by the main story itself. It felt amazing. I subbed and bought all the expansions right then and there. Now I'm working on becoming an Omni-90. I'm having fun in PVP and raids. I don't think I can ever go back to WoW. The amount of lateral progression in FFXIV is just astonishing and so much fun.
Ashes of creation seems super promising! I have been looking at that game for years since funding XD
Games can be addicting, but the thing with XIV is that it's been made as a way to spend time with friends, the game has so much to offer, but at the same time does not force you to do everything. Contrary to other mmos, where you're expected to be ingame 12+ hrs a day, here you can leave for 2 years, come back, and pick up where you left it with way more fun options available to you, more story, more raids, shiny new gear if you want it, or new places to visit.
There's no real reason you can't play more than one game if you want to. I currently play 3 games. FFXIV, DDO & DCUO
The thing I love about FFXIV is, it never tried to be an "anything" killer. The developers just wanted to make a fun MMO.
Oh yeah, they also want to kick your feels in the balls with story–so there is that.😁
Oh you're already halfway through ARR? Man, I missed a lot! I'll have to catch your streams more often! I've been so busy I missed them! Keep it up, my guy! You're doing great! Also, try all the new games! Have fun! FFXIV will always be there for you no matter how long it takes. 🙂
only 1/2 and you're hooked?, oh my sweet summer child, enjoy the things to come
The story really takes off in Heavensward, but Shadowbringers and Endwalker (two incredible storylines) would not carry their emotional impact without the worldbuilding set up in ARR. The great thing about XIV is it really does let you set your own pace in progressing the MSQ. After getting burnt out with how unrewarding WoW's gearing system is, the deterministic setup in XIV is such a breath of fresh air. I haven't played WoW in over a year now, and I don't miss it.
ok but why not put the videos here…twitch is exactly what you said you hate, time consuming. for me that i lived through the cable tv and vhs era, if you werent there you missed it, that is what twitch is. why not put it and stream it on youtube? or put it on youtube? so i can watch it when i have time? why do i have to be online then to see it? its the exact oposite of what you said about time and spending time so…where are the playthroughs so i can see them and watch them when i want to….you contradict yourself with what you say vs the platform you choose. so which one is it?
Every ff14 player knows its ok to leave the game and come back when ever. sprouts and flowers are always welcomed 🙂
It may be an unpopular take, but I always played WoW for its lore, its history. That game's lore dates back 25.000 (!!!) years! It had some awesome stories to tell, it had depth! Everything somehow meant something, either on a small scale or a big, world shattering one. It felt alive, for want of a better word… Those ruins there were ruins for a reason, there were ghosts there because of a specific event in the past. This world… it had a soul. And then Blizz turned around and ripped it out. At least, thats how I felt. Characters, that I knew and loved (from both the game and many, MANY books), changed in ways that seemed unfounded and against their own priviously established nature. Things happened that were just plain stupid. I overlooked it for years, but during BfA… I suppose there was that "enough is enough" moment. And I dont expect to ever set foot in WoW again. Not while the same people have the same priorities, the same values and the same vision.
Its crazy how much people change from their early 20s to their late 20s, my gaming habits and tastes have also evolved during that time and now I'm more about a relaxed gaming experience.
FF XIV is my favorite FF and one of my top games of all time. Played off and on in 1.0 and have been addicted since ARR.
I do have a bit of fear about the future with mobile games training a generation on those kinds of reward cycles on steroids… This is also how I know I'm old now. Sad day.
