Thereâs no such debate as a Healing DPS. You either HEAL or DPS. Doing both is insulting to both.
Edit: Sorry, forgot to add a disclaimer.
White mage quest line literally tells you to do damage when not healing, the whole story is someone who refuses to DPS because they are a healer. But in the end they learn DPS is good.
How does this change anything.
The healing role is to not let the tank die and DPS the rest of the time
As for the debate I dont think sage changes anything in particular that scholors already couldn't do
When you think about the healing you get from picking a taget to heal while dpsing
Think about how a scholars fairy heals someone whos already taken damage doing this automatically allows you to dps more as a scholar just as putting regen helps regain hp as you do something else
To me it feels like sage and scholar are essential the same class but with a thematic shift . It even feels like a scholar's "emergency tactics" when you press a button to augment your heal to add a shield instead of taking away the shield for double the heal
I've done damage healing in Rift…and it was horrible for me so I may not even touch this job
New healers are often focused on watching the party's HP bars and may have to focus on that, especially if they don't know that they can turn effects off. But, you have to also remember that some people naturally start to panic around the time that their HP hits half. This is something that happens to everyone regardless of role. For healers who do this, It is in their nature to try to top off all the characters, even if it means overhealing. If you're learning a shielder like Scholar and in the future, Sage, you have to pre-emptively cast your heal before the attack lands and that makes it all the more likely that you're going to be watching HP bars. Over time, you might be more comfortable with watching HP dip below a certain point or attacking when HP is above a certain point, but that also takes time and some people are unlikely to ever move away from that.
i like the vulnerability debuff. when a sprout wow refugee tank blame the healer. i can say you got 5 debuff and you ask where is the heal. you have proof that the tank and dps are not dodging mechanics.
A lot of it comes with learning fights and knowing when you need to heal to prevent death and when you don't. If the tank is at half health but you know the boss is gonna die soon and no tank buster is coming, you can keep dpsing, because out of combat healing is great. đđ
So Yoshi-P said we don't want DPS healers so lets make a Healer DPS
Newer healer here. Learning to DPS and heal was a challange for me and was very intimidating. My only healer experience was some toxicity in WoW a few years ago. But I took the time and convinced myself mistakes were OK and now I get pretty boss moments where I am the reason my groups near whip recovered and I still kept respectable dps uptime. The feeling of badassery is so good.
I am just starting to use the white mage and not going to lie was very close multiple times to letting the poor tank die because they did big pulls.
There is no debate, if there is no healing to be done, you dps. Doesnât the hall of the novice tell you so as well? Why is this such a âhot topicâ @_@
When people complain about button bloat… i feel defensive, because i hate the idea of going down to wow level button count… where you have 5 or 6 none cooldown buttons, max. Yuck
"You signed up to fix their mistakes"
No. Taking damage is unavoidable. It's not always a mistake. You're there to mitigate unavoidable damage, and yes, take up some slack and give DPS/tank some wiggle room. Sure, everyone makes mistakes. But you're not there to change their diapers.
THANK YOU Brian for bringing up the down time, dpsing as a healer is such a BORE đŽ
I think that DPSing in a dungeon is important for healers to learn, because if you are going to be a healer doing solo/story content you're going to need to be good at DPSing & healing yourself. What's more, your dots & other small damages really do add up.
