  1. What you can get mad at, is plain, straight up griefing/mpk/virtually AFK behavior. If everyone had the intention to go in and learn from their mistakes and then improve as best as they can, talesfromdf wouldn't exist. Thanks for adding more to the discussion, Larry, I also realize that what separates the enjoyment of content is the attitude I have towards the game, and not just reacting to others around me.

  2. The fundamental issue is with difficulty coming from content instead of job design is that it means content that is scaled down (dungeons, etc.) has absolutely nothing to focus on if you're playing at a higher level than that content demands.

I subbed in a far more casual static as a WAR for the final tier of EW and I was so. incredibly. bored. Despite not generally playing tanks because WAR is so smooth and I was already very familiar with the content I was in… and that was a Savage tier.

When you start applying this to trials, alliance raids and even dungeons you're left with the bulk of the content in the game offering no stimulation to the people who've been here as dedicated fans for the longest time.

I agree that DT has raised the bar on casual content a bit, but without the addition of meaningful and nuanced changes to almost every job at this point (not to mention a total overhaul of the healer role) it's a single drop in a bone dry bucket with a hole in the bottom.

  3. Guildhests were designed to teach people how to handle certain mechanics. They've now become largely irrelevant. When was the last time you had to place something on the ground and lure a weakened enemy to it?

I thought Dawntrail was a good difficulty. I don't understand the people that said the solo instances were too difficult. When you fail those, you get an option to reduce the difficulty so if it was too hard for them, they could have just chosen the easier difficulty.

When it comes to markers, they weren't always consistent. The stack markers for example. Back in Heavensward in Sohm Al, the 2nd boss put either a red or blue marker over people. The red one was a stack while blue was solo. The problem was that these markers were used in other fights but meant other things. In most fights, the red marker was always a spread. I think it's good that they've made them largely consistent.

There are some mechanics that look very complicated but are in fact very simple if you know what to do. The majority of fights have arenas designed to you can use the floor to position yourself for things. Hades has circles on the floor which show you where those giant circles that come down will hit so you know how bit they are. P11s had a great arena design with squares on the ground you can use to place things.

  4. When they said Larry is back, and saw your previous vid, I felt like you were my kinda dude. But Larry, have you tried healing the new content? As a SCH that was pretty good in previous xpacs, I can't keep a group up and going…. that's in dungeons. I have one new capstone ability and a new version of succor. Put me at a boss mob where it has electrified fences and 100 zaps per seconds, not even my OCDs can keep up. It's way harder than sum, picto, war, reaper. Go heals, my fine dude, and tell me the curve isn't a bit steep. Or the end fight with that one boss. Mechanics aside, it's pretty flippin hard to keep everyone alive.

Could be my tanks and other folks are doing their mit, but as heals, it feels like you're carrying the group. And there is a req, unles deeps.

  5. As a normal normy, I think some people are just afraid or annoyed at wiping which isn't a healthy mindset. Wiping is fine! The 2 things that made me a better player was dying a lot in Bojza and EW dungeons. While EW dungeons were the hardest, they did a really great job teaching players, as I felt most dungeons before EW didn't really teach me anything. Now with what EW taught me DT stuff is super fun.

  6. Maybe I just get good dungeon groups, but I've yet to see someone complain in duty finder about the difficulty. And I think I've wiped more when I run low level content than any of the new stuff. I think the people complaining are a very small but vocal minority that just want tank and spank bosses. Literally everyone else finds those bosses boring.

  7. i remember positional in heavensward…… you miss one. RIP your dps. That was insane. But yeah the game is fun, i have fun, Dawntrail make me have fun in dungeons again and trial are son fun! I know, so many players don't agree and that fine. Just take the time to learn and enjoy the game 🙂

  8. I love the mindset talk, it has key concepts that influence our experience here and now (Expectations and emotional state) other than the stimulus characteristics (how the game is).

  9. Lots of mechanics in DT are situational awareness, including outside of the arena (volcanoes in EX1) and I think people are still adjusting to paying attention to something outside of the cast bar.
