  1. I was completely on board with what I heard about DT BLM until this video… Sharpcast is gone??? No thunder procs??? No ice paradox??? Wtf?
I play mostly-standard BLM but with a double transpose opener. I expected to lose my opener and a few niche optimizations I do but I did not expect… this…

  2. I think theres always been a big misconception about “standard” v “non standard”. There is no such thing as “non-standard black mage”. There are non standard lines of rotation, that deviate from the standard loop of fire and ice. The whole theory of nonstandard rotation is to press your buttons in such a way that will do big damage and be able to the movement needed for the encounters mechanics. And theres unique things you can do in EW, and unique things you can in DT with your buttons to optimize movement and damage. That job identity will stay the same. The doomers are kinda misguided in that regard. Even the loudest ones..

  3. Oh boy, more gauge stuff to keep track of… I think Black Mage is going to be staying a bottom-rung job for me because it seems they've made it even more convoluted and unappealing.

  4. Great, they managed to streamline the only fun job in the game. All I can hope is that my opinion changes when it's like, but seeing the changes… man, that's sad.

  5. Honestly I like the changes. I've been playing BLM a lot recently because it's one of my least played jobs and I wanted to be at least proficient with all jobs. I liked the 'sweatiness' of BLM, making me feel that if I make one wrong move I will be greatly punished for it. Here, there is new sweatiness in making sure that you get your Flarestar done, while not running out of time like normal. Maybe the real deal is a bit easier than how BLM currently plays, but I think it's great that the penalties exist for when you mess up.

  6. Looking at the Aspect Mastery tooltips (thanks for including!), I think it will be much more intuitive and easy to understand as new players level up with a more incremental progression as you go from 1 to 50.

  7. Heres the thing, spreadsheet Job design is just cringe

It creates instance where people play the Job wrong, so that some 0.5% of the player base can do 1-3% more DPS on specific rotation

Non-standards main benefit was movement. If you add more freedom of movement… non-standard doesnt need to exist. Its not that complicated.

I think Umbral Paradox should still be here, but other than that, some things like Transpose – Instant Bliz 3 are still worth it if you can/need to. Carrying Firestarter to swap is still there.
Theres still small amounts of non-standard, but not the absurd excel minmaxing so you can get 14 more DPS and your precious Rank 3

Genuinely not a big deal all things considered

  8. I don't get what people mean when they say "BLM is one of the most mobile casters". Like, SMN is almost a phys ranged at this point, RDM has a a free instant cast every other GCD, plus 2 stacks of Acceleration and more instant casts after melee combo. Picto seems to have a fair amount of instant casts too, but might be on par with BLM.

  9. to all the people mad and crying about this. keep in mind that this is what square has been doing to ALL THE JOBS since Shadowbringers. now it just was the turn to make BLM more "entry level friendly" since that seems to be the idea square wants to force on every job we like it or no. so AT LEAST it wasnt as bad as the rework SMN had lol
welcome to the club. MCH, SMN, SAM, NIN, DRG, MNK, AST, SCH have already been through this. you will get used to it. 😭😭😭😭

  10. Why are they making this game so simplified? Where is the challenge and joy of mastering your job? It’s that was MMO’s are about? Might as well play a single player RPG if I want my role simplified that anyone can use and play out the get go.

  11. Non-standard gameplay was extremely rigid for a theoretical 0.7%-2% DPS increase if you were making perfect use of all the nonstandard lines.

For people to loose their shit over the changes call it non-standard flexible is just pure irony

  12. These changes don’t seem bad to me, and level syncing under 70 isn’t bad either. I’ve never had many issues playing BLM at any level, and these changes sound fine to me.

  13. I think the BLM changes are great. Non standard being the best dps is bad. It heavily promoting using 3rd party plugins is bad. Mana ticks being based on server was terrible.

The standard rotation should be optimal and able to handle all movement mechanics. They must make further improvements to that end on the mobility side for the sake of some fights. But these changes are a great start to improving the standard gameplay.

  14. OK, that with the losing of stacks of the new gauge had no one other mentioned yet, who i saw.
A little sad, but in overall should that be no big meaning.

Aside of that, do i see only improvements by the blm. Except of the thunder thing, who looks unnecressary (i want to start with beeing a Sith and shoot lightning^^). And a little questionable with no Paradox for ice phase (ok, you only need 1 ice attack for full mp, so, is there no big reason to stay in ice phase, except by down times from enemie).
