  1. Oh yea I remember this update when it dropped, it was legendary. You commented about how could they do all this content in one update, but back then the patch cycles were actually much longer. It used not be just 3 months before an update. So we would wait longer for more content. Sadly most of the community voted to have shorter patch cycles (3 months) with less content. And yes this music was sooo epic!

  2. This trailer was my first ever exposure to Final Fantasy XIV. I watched it on a CD I got alongside a gaming magazine (that sadly got discontinued). I thought the fight with Leviathan and his music were both awesome, even though I'd only end up actually playing the game several years later.

  3. Ahh, Brayflox Longstop Hard.
My favorite dungeon to speed run for 3.0 relic weapons.
The hard mode versions of dungeons are great, they're totally different from the originals, they're not just re-using the same level assets to build new levels.

  4. Two things about some comments you made:
    1) If you’re really going to play the content in the order it was released, it’s a lot but it was by no means time wasted. Have fun!
    2) The amount of content the ARR patches got every patch was ridiculous, but they had to add it all to build up the world. There’s even stuff they added in these patches that isn’t in the trailer like 2.2 being the patch that brought in PS4 players, which added entire servers of people to the game. (Hello from Jenova!) At this point in the game’s life you couldn’t even fly!

  5. My biggest piece of advice would be to try and catch up before endwalker drops, so you can experience the expansion when it’s brand new, which is an irreplaceable experience that happens only once every 2 years. It’s easily doable, especially if you mainly stick to msq.

  6. I'm leveling up a new character (a lot of friends were on a different data server so I decided to join them there) and have chosen to do just what you said – doing most of the content, following the patch releases as much as possible with the aim of finishing 5.x when Endwalker drops, and I'm enjoying it a lot ^-^ Also, I am coincidentally doing the patch 2.2 msq this weekend with that character, just need to clear Labyrinth of the Ancients and do the first Hildi quests today first (only thing where I'm out of sync a bit is the relics quest)

The Leviathan fight isn't tough, you just need to know a cpuple of things to make it (mostly) pain-free 😉 That fight in the Lost City of Amdapor which you said looks nuts features a pretty popular entity in the FF community (which is better known for featuring in ffviii)

And as others have probably told you already, the story in these early patches isn't necessarily the greatest (although it centers on Merlwyb so it can't be all that bad :p) but it definitely picks up from here

  7. Was thinking it'd be cool if the timing works out, that you could do collab patch 2.2 Hard Dungeon runs together with Ash from Beyond Gaming. I sounded him out on our discord community, so he might try and get in touch with you :). He's now on the cusp of Heavensward, and he does not plan to cross that threshold until after he has more fun with the rest of 2.x content (like Hildebrand and leveling a Dragoon)

  8. I would only wish once for one of these channels to play with JP dubs on – i can't suffer english VAs to this game, no matter how hard they try they just sound unnatural, acting, forcefully high-fantasy with obnoxious at time concentration of bri'ish accent where it doesn't belong.
Sure, jp has its antics with weird personalities and some minor anime tropes (squeaky sidekick tataru!), but they sound much more true to their character and natural in the flow of conversation – much more emotional when it matters, ESPECIALLY when the plot thickens.

Regrdless, it's still joyful to see people be entranced by story. Welcome, all you new players, for nothing makes me happier than thought of the journey ahead of you!
