So after playing World of Warcraft since the release in Europe, I have come to the point where I am not enjoying it anymore, and after hearing so many good things about FF14 I thought I would give it a try
This series is going to be me stumbling through the game, and seeing if it is going to be the game that can reignite my joy in playing MMO’s
So if you have any tips and suggestions please feel free to leave them in the comments section below

FF14 is all about the Journey not the destination, so enjoy your time. And your character is at the center of the journey and the presentation of that gets better and better with each expansion.
The best advice I can give is to enjoy the journey and don't rush. For quests, there are yellow sidequests, Main scenario quests, Job Quests, and Blue Unlock quests. There is no need to do the yellow side quests, so you can ignore those if you aren't interested learning about more about that zone. You'll get plenty of exp from just going through the MSQ (Main Scenario Quests).
FF14 rotations get very complicated, but it introduces stuff slowly so that you can learn it. It will become more and more complex, but nothing feels overwhelming as the game teaches you how to play it. The Hall of the Novice is a good example of that. You can do that at 15 by talking to The Smith NPC in one of the Inns. You'll be taught how to run dungeons, get good gear, and an awesome increase exp ring that will be very useful until level 30 for all of the jobs you want to level.
This might sound like a troll but I actually recommend at least trying out controller if you have a ps4 controller lying around and see if you enjoy it. The game was designed around controller usage (there is crossplay with ps4/ps5 players, so you've likely seen many of them and not even noticed) and it's very comfy/relaxing.
If you're worried about whether it's viable in endgame content, it totally is. People do Savage/Ultimate difficulty raids with controller all the time and there have been many world first kills with controller users in the party.
Try it out, see if you like it.
As for beginner tips, one big one is to try changing movement to Legacy Type (especially if you're on controller). Character configuration > first red button > change standard to legacy > apply. This lets you turn instantly and have more freedom in your movement which will become very important later on for many mechanics. (This is totally optional by the way, some people prefer standard type which is fine but can make some later mechanics very annoying to deal with. Most people end up playing on Legacy though from what I've seen.)
There are some transmog Horns that any race can wear (available via the market board) should you want a more burlier looking character but still have horns (tho Au'ra are pretty jacked). You get a free race change once you finish the base 2.0 story content otherwise they're like 10 bucks or so on the cash shop. This is all assuming you haven't imprinted on your Au'ra. Regardless hope you continue to enjoy XIV and stay safe. ^^b
