Aether Explained- Spell Craft/Schools, FFXIV Analysis

This is part 3 on my series of explaining aether and all the variety of things it’s capable of! I’ve have fun putting these videos together because there’s so much lore to cover! People horribly underestimate aether since they don’t look beyond their job abilities, but I hope these videos will make players begin to appreciate this power system.

  1. hey there! first off, amazing video on the schools of magic and your videos on FFXIV lore in general, but i have a question.

since sage’s weapons work through channeling aether into their nouliths, do you think the same principle can be applied to conventional, larger weapons (such as a dark knight’s claymore) and still work?

  2. I hope blue magic will grow more and will be used more, and I'm also curious if maybe one day we will be able to go to the land where it was created… (Pretty sure we won't but a man can dream eheh)

  3. Surprised that you didn’t mention a machinist using the aether pack on their side to manipulate their own aether into bullets, although I guess that’s using an outside tool instead of learning to use your own aether.

  4. I’d love to know how niche schools like Sorceress and Academician!

I imagine the latter is applying sage techniques to Archanist methods, considering that the scholar arts were lost until somewhere between the 7th umbral and astral eras. The former is probably a branching school of thaumaturgy utilizing the more commonly rediscovered tools of Black Magic. Who knows what esoteric knowledge only Matoya and associates are still privy to!

Also is it still magic if a technology or machine uses Aether to produce magnificent effects like floating screens? Or manifesting what are normally considered arcane objects and entities? Or is this the line where technology crosses over to magitek?

  5. Speaking of Nymian Scholary, I heard they're starting to come back after some curse they were under got lifted. Think it'd be a good idea to try and bring the art back here? Maybe we can get one to give a lecture sometime…

  6. Low key one of my favorite parts of Endwalker and the patch content has been voiced characters teaching different topics to the WoL and your videos do a great job recreating that feeling, especially with the music backing you up. It's a treat.

  7. I'm still calling hog wash on Blue Magic. Just some flime flam show going on in knock off Coliseum. Why if blue mages where a thing I'd have seen them by now on the front lines.

Now that running joke I have with my friends about it is a shame blue mage is limited, great vid one I'll share to people that ask how come my white magic couldn't save someone

  8. Truth be told, I wouldn’t be surprised if something akin to a “Time Battlemage” job popped up at some point in the future.
(Mostly because Time Mage is a class in several FF titles, and there is a fourth slot of Magic DPS just waiting to be filled)
