HONEST THOUGHTS ON SCHOLAR? Scholar is absolutely beyond nuts going into Endwalker. It’s hard to really see a world or way that this type of kit could be anything but highly prized and sought after.
Consistency. Consistency. Consistency is thy name. Don’t sleep on the Scholar, it very well might end up being extremely meta just for it’s unique utility alone. VERY strong.

People keep saying the movement speed buff will be great for savage content and harder content with this mechanic or that mechanic. But as a casual player these changes, Or the lack of changes don’t make me excited. Especially sense it’s a level 90 ability, that means I’m not gonna he using it a lot in the random content I do like dailies. And the times I do get to use it, won’t feel like this super awesome ability.
I don’t think anyone who is talking about scholar is viewing it from a casual person that has never done savage or ultimates or extremes before and that part of the game doesn’t excite them. And these changes might be great for that kind of content, but for regular content, I can’t help but just be left feeling underwhelmed. Idk I am happy that scholar sounds like it’s gonna be good in raids and stuff! As a casual player we want big flashy cool stuff to show off, to feel powerful, and broil spamming and the new movement speed skill just don’t fit that for me. idk just thought I’d express this side of the coin. Even if my thoughts might be unclear and stuff I hope the point gets across.

Who thought it wouldn't be powerful? People thought the changes wouldn't fix the gameplay issues and make it fun. I don't think anyone thought it would be weak.
Hopefully Scholar mains will take the forums to ask for QoL changes to be made to the Scholar by say 6.1 that fix some of the anti-synergy issues it has. Power-wise, the Scholar is in a fine place but you won't see me playing it probably even once because it'll auto-level with my Summoner and I'll be healing on Sage past that. I haven't decided yet which pure healer will be my go to yet as AST changed quite a bit and I want to get my hands on it to see how it feels. White Mage seems more or less the same so I can always fall back on it but I've really started to enjoy AST in this lul time before EW drops.

I'm considering to just play dps jobs until they fix the healers being 1 button jobs in 95% of content.

Similarly I despise that the fairy gauge has no purpose besides fae union. Really wish we got more Seraph shit on scholar like summoners got all the og primals and phoenix after bahamut ffs
Yep, I'm excited for SCH. Got my Protraction and Expedient button spaces ready. Looking forward to my huger shields and (hopefully) smarter Team Faerie. Broil IV doesn't look as sexy as Broil III, but you can't have everything, can you?
I am still underwhelmed by this. Sure the expedient ability is awesome, but… meh. I’m a very casual player and don’t do any high end gaming. The only thing that has me even contemplating stepping into that content is blu, but I digress. I will very likely spend expedient on cool down for exploring areas when I don’t want to fly, or story dungeons going into 6.1+ as the extent of it. The deployment adjustment IS nice, but again, in the content I do, 90% of the time I ignore this ability specifically because it’s not needed. If it could deploy something other than adloquium barriers or reset the duration on the spread shields I could see myself using it more often in casual content like story dungeos, but again, it’s just lackluster in the content I play most of the time. I was really hoping we would get bane back in our toolkit to help our AoE dps out. Needing to be right in danger zone to spam art of war is really… annoying. I really didn’t have any other big wishes for sch though, outside of helping our AoE dps contribution from a distance (or focusing our dps more on DoTs since they were removed from smn entirely). I think sch is in a really good place overall, and these potency buffs are REALLY nice, but just pretty lackluster from my perspective
Succor buffed to 200 potency + 160% (320) shield is a big deal!

I think you are massively overselling expedient when the skill you should be championing is protraction. The synergy that skill has with certain tanks is amazing. And thats to say nothing of how bonkers a 10% hp heal is on tanks. Especial on warrior where you can stack 2 hp% buffs.
There’s still gonna be delusional people who dont realize how good scholar is atleast for now until they fix the clunkyness like disspation fae gauge etc…like if they gonna fcking meme on scholar and dont know how to play the class then its for sure they’re gonna fck up playing sage and has no knowledge on the class as well…like im so tired of people attacking scholar for its speed meme or being a ded class. Its coming from people who dont play the class in general!
I’m pretty casual and I’m really excited.
I love using DT and having it aligned to Recitation means I can toss out super beefy shields more often (and on the tank due to that responsiveness!). Fey Blessing not requiring fairy gauge means I don’t need that extra generation of fairy gauge anymore from Recitation. In Alliance raids, if Noct ASTs can do a massive shield opener, why shouldn’t i (Crit Spreadlo+Consolation).
Protraction, I’m totally gushing over. I love it. It’s essentially a shield that can be recovered with healing! Adloquium looks it can make a 9000 HP shield in the media tour, but when it’s gone, it’s gone. The tanks seemed to have about 64k during the MT, which means a 6400 refreshable shield.
The fairy potencies being fixed, amazing! I personally never had an issue with fairy control since you can still perform /pac such as Move, Heel, and Place <pet> during Broil spams meaning I can easily place her somewhere to prioritize the tank during damage lulls then move her over to heal the party when something big that requires her abilities is needed. I’ve been messing around with macros and I’ve discovered I can make some interesting tricks – using macros to ensure I can’t Dissipate/Summon Seraph during a fairy ability. I honestly want more on-demand fairy positional abilities so I can play around with moving her more and also giving her a movement speed buff so she can use those wings and zip around when I want her to.
Expedient? Everyone is making a big deal about the sprint, but I’m excited for another damage mitigator! Sacred Soil is busted because it’s 10% DR with 100 pot regen. Well, Expedient + Whispering Dawn is 10% DR with 120 pot regen to EVERYONE. It’s another Sacred Soil!
I love using Dissipation during dungeon runs. GCD spam happens in dungeons. You get a brand new tank that’s not fully geared and the DPS aren’t geared either. I’m gonna be spamming Adloquium. Sacrificing the fairy for more resources and my own boost is gonna happen. Dissipation has saved me runs. Though, with the fairy potency fix, I think Dissipation is going to need to be a stronger heal buff. If the party is super geared, well, I’m gonna chomp on Eos and spam some ED then!
The things I really wanted: a stronger fairy, more DT, more weaving, and more mitigation – I got it and so I’m super excited!
I’m also super excited for SGE and their amazingly flexible toolkit, but just watching some of the media tour, it’s dps rotation is exactly like a WHM’s rotation (GCD stringing with a 45 sec burst) and that’s incredibly dull and boring to me. I always DPS as healer (like…why not lol), but I don’t like the idea of being punished for not doing something (which the Kardia system doesn’t reward you for doing dps, it punishes your healing if you don’t a dps).
I'm a "new player" (only 1 job at 80 rn) that was wondering if I should play Scholar or Sage and this is what I'm thinking:
1) Identity (not about pure/shield healer): Sage's identity is clear af, you will heal by doing damage, so you got a very nice and flashy weapon to do the job… While Scholar's identity (from my viewpoint) is about "a healer that use a summon to heal", so you have one fairy around you like 100% of the time, that should be very important to do the work (like the flashy weapons in a Sage), but after reading (A LOT) forums and watching videos about the job, it looks like the fairy is more a problem than a help, and the job has lost almost all interaction with it.
2) Complexity (and fun): I'm not exactly sure about Sage, but for what I have read and watched, the job will have to make some nice amount of decisions about what skill to use in X situation. While Scholar makes you feel that you have to take decisions when actually you can't chose, it's kit works in a way that WILL punish you for the "wrong" choice, and as mentioned in this video, the kit is counter-intuitive and/or "anti-synergy", and damn, a Ninja has a bunny for the wrong choice but a SCH will have a wipe, that's not exactly fun and neither a choice.
3) Visual aspect: well, Sage by far looks more flashy and appealing to my eyes.
4) I already know that all the jobs can do endgame content so, the problem is not about balance, is about if I'll have a good time learning to play a complex job or if I'll have a headache because a job has a design with QoL issues.
So my conclusion, I'll pick Sage. And after writing this and knowing that both kits are similar and Sage doesn't has those QoL issues, I think a good amount of SCH mains will change to Sage if they try the job.
This analogy seems a bit wrong, but from my perspective the SCH remembers me to WoW, and the Sage seems like that fresh air that is FFXIV for the WoW refugees 😅
I think it's probably the memes reinforcing the perception, but a lot of people seem to think that Scholars are concerned about the lack of cool new abilities. In contract, the bulk of comments I've seen have leveled complaints against the preexisting issues such as the anti-synergy and lack of damage variance as discussed in the video.
For the latter, I hoping WHM and SCH could shift a bit in the direction that AST has in this pre-release form. It has its Card and Divination buffs, it has Earthy Star, Lord of Crown, Astrodyne to work for, and Macrocosmos as offensive tools.
I don't think all the Healers need to be super complicated and high APM, but SOMETHING to help mix up the Broil and Glare spam in particular would be cool.
I think giving WHM something akin to Firestarter/Thundercloud procs to respond to would be a flavor win due to the Black Mage parallels in lore. It would give them something to react to without making it too complicated. Maybe something Earth and Wind related as a callback to the Conjurer roots?
For SCH, we have Energy Drain and Chain Stratagem (technically Ruin 2 as well) but I was hoping for something like Assize or Earthly Star. At this point, I'd even take something like PVP Scholar's Aura Blast.
Anyway, Scholar strength is definitely not what I'm concerned about. I will still do my best to churn out chunky shields, but I definitely want to weight it's playstyle against the Sage. I'm glad that my thoughts are aligned with a much more veteran Scholar.

I wish that fey union was transformed into a cardia style buff so it only heals one target which you can turn on and off so eos can heal with you on a tankbuster and help you heal the party after a raidwide, give sages 90 second cooldown to give 100% increased cardia healing and make it connected to the fairy guage AND make af spenders give mana/fairy guage whether fairy is out or not, then dissipation can lose its anti synergy and use the bonus mana regen on the gcd spells you now have buffed
maybe shrink dissipations healing to 10% but applies globally to all healing too
