  1. i dont know if anyone told you yet, but when you do this dungeon you become legit haunted in game, edda will show up in the 3 starting citys on rainy days in game and come in and out of existence

  2. I hope you noticed my other comment on "All Good things" cause I was referring to this. Also I'd like to point out if you talked to Avere when he was alive, it was pretty obvious that he did not like you at all. So even when you meet Edda again after Copperbell Mines, where she says that you were Avere's idol, she has already lost her mind though the conversation seems innocent enough.

  3. One thing you will come to realize is that FFXIV very rarely wastes characters. You will have one-off meetings and missions with characters, and run into them in a sidequest or MSQ two expansions later that references your earlier meeting.

Like, look how much this one example builds out the world; with you getting snapshots of this other party's lives, and insight into their states of mind. Regrets, hard choices, lost potential, it's a whole saga going on off-screen.

  4. It's funny that you say they could put more mechanics in. Setting aside that this is an ARR dungeon and the trend is to have more complex mechanics in later expacs, this dungeon does tend to trip up folks who just faceroll their keyboard and not pay attention. On the first boss, if you hit the zombies with player attacks or leave them alive, they explode for partywide damage and vuln stacks, easily wiping a group that fails to hit them with the boss AoE. On the second encounter the goal is to keep the lala alive, and I've often found myself the only person trying to keep the exploding orbs away from him.

I wonder if you've taken a look at Haukke Manor hard? The last boss in that one loves to punish head empty play.

  5. the biggest difficulty spike in this dungeon is going in with no prior knowledge of the fights. Ive seen groups constantly wipe on the first boss because they didnt know and wouldnt listen to instructions.

  6. There is so much to the encounters with Edda's group.
You spotted they were a light party, but it was even more MMO than that.
They disbanded because 'the healer let the tank die' according to the dps, or 'the tank ran off around a corner' according to Edda.
It's an in-joke for the experienced and an object lesson for the real noobs.
I'd have been satisfied with that, but no they give us a whole new creepy AF dungeon, and the story continues in Palace of the Dead, the deep dungeon.
They use the whole buffalo, for sure; nothing wasted.

  7. You did well 🙂 How many groups fail the first boss, forget to heal the lala during the second and tank the third boss in the middle so he cleaves the entire group XD XD XD

Well, Avere isnt the problem, Edda just… hmmm… do Palast of the Dead, her story isnt quite finished ^.^ Oh, and if it rains during night time, chances are you see Ghost-Edda standing under a lamp pole in Gridania 😉

  8. So yeah…

You first meet Edda and compatriots outside Sastasha. They are just a random little group of NPCs and you need to get up close to them to get their story.
Edda is out of breath. She ran all the way from town since she had to go buy health potions. She is chided by Avere for not being effective a healer enough and if she needed more money she could ask her family. Liavinne is there, drunk and abrasive. Paiyo is just standing besides and going all "Ohgods I am going to be SO FAMOUS… And Rich! Rich and Famous!" (paraphrased)

Then, after the second intro dungeon we only see Edda, Liavinne and Paiyo. Paiyo says something rude and leaves. Liavinne blames her for everything even though Avere was 'that guy' and ran out of line of sight on too big a pull. On leaving, Liavinne makes the remark to 'get rid of that head'.

Finally, after the third, you have that conversation from Edda and she leaves back home to 'start over'.

Liavinne does show up at the Scions base afterwards. She's turned a new leaf when the Scions were willing to give her a second chance and she was actually starting to make something of herself…
Actually, in the fight against you, she's trying to fight against Edda's control and help you. That's why her arrows can safely kill all the adds without exploding.

  9. When I first saw Edda and her party, I thought they were just a cautionary tale about not being toxic in groups…

I mean, I guess they are in an especially messed up way XD
