Turning 30,000 Levinsilk into Crafting Materia | FFXIV Dawntrail

Was it worth it? Subscribe so my retainers can take PTO

I spent the better part of the last two months having my retainers gather me thousands of Levinsilk and Lightning Crystals so that I could Quick Synth all of them to see if it’s worth getting Crafting Materia from Spiritbonding! It turned out way better than I expected.

I personally use the Higher tier melds for 4965 Perception so I can gather 30 of the level 100 gatherables, but it’s very niche and not recommended until 7.1:

  1. I just want to say how much I appreciate this fun positive content. So many YouTube videos have become debates on the content schedule or if dt is a good expansion. I love a simple video that talks about a fun experiment! Thank you for your voice in the community

  2. These sort of things are what I call Stupid Little Goals. Things like maxing ventures, etc, that have minor actual, useful, effect on gameplay and aren't exactly efficient. I love them! They're one of the main reasons I keep playing during content lulls. Thank you for doing this vid, it's great!

  3. I just went serverhopping buying hundreds of materia cheap to pentameld my gear in 7.1. And even if I may have went overboard I hope to sell the remaining at a fat profit when the prices skyrocket

  4. Lose all the things you could have gotten from quick ventures. All it would have taken was getting jet black dye once from a coffer to make the same profit. Should definitely do the same experiment with doing quick ventures. Adding up all the dyes, furniture items, gear turned into GC seals, dye, glamour etc.

  5. Something to note. If you have the premium version of the ff14 companion app. You can send out and claim retainer gathering ventures from the app with a currency that regenerates twice per day. So that two extra gathering you can do while you're at work or away from Your pc

  6. As a former OSRS player for many years (maxed main, super progressed iron etc.) this type of stuff is just the best. I have a ton of crystals, i might try this on a smaller scale. Great video!

  7. The way I personally take this is something I had an idea of, but wasn't entirely sure of and didn't really want to commit the time to it. Spiritbonding is actually pretty underrated when it comes to crafting calculations, mainly because you can't guarantee what you get. With scrips it's easily calculable and much easier to visualise what you need. However that then leads us to searching for the "cheapest & fastest" way to make collectables, which tends towards the mob drops like Tisane and Carne Asada. I wouldn't die on a hill saying "it's more optimal to make high craft required collectables", but it's likely closer than expected. So I think it's better to say: if you have the time, energy, or retainers that can gather passive items, find a way to use those passive items. Whether they be mob drops from battle retainers, or gathered resources, getting them out consistently to keep your pool of resources high, is good. The thing you don't want to do, and I think so many casual crafters do, is see the mountain of numbers, get overwhelmed at the time it'll take to get everything, and just end up buying things to make it quick. (It's me I do this all the time I regret it every time I buy anything off the MB).

  8. you keep saying you passively gathered all these materials when you didn't. the numbers is interesting and it's a fun lil project but you keep contradicting yourself several times in the video

  9. I had no idea you could get 340% increase on spiritbonding when crafting. I thought it was like gathering where you could only get the +5 with the potion. Thank you for that info, that's awesome.

As far as what I'm doing, I've been macro-farming rarefied tacos to have orange script turn-ins ready for 7.1 and farming some crafting materia. Really wish I knew I could be getting 340%, but dem the breaks lol. I'm on the same page as you as well though: was not a big fan of just spamming collectables. But then I figured out how to create a macro through my razer keyboard to continuously cycle my 2 part crafting macro for tacos in game. Whenever I'm leaving for an extended period of time (work, sleep, grab dinner), I get my macro going.

I take 2 Rroneek steaks, a spritibond potion, and then set up my macro for 63 cycles of crafting tacos… and walk away lol. 63 cycles maths out to right under 60 mins so I get the full buff from well-fed. I then go throw those 63 tacos into my retainer's storage and go again.

Currently up to 561 tacos and I wasn't in front of my PC the entire time it was happening. I'm ready for Taco Tuesday (7.1 drop day) lol
