I went team xbox at the beginning on this console generation and I am sorry i did. Fuk Xbox, Fuk the dog shit games that were supposed to be bangers, Fuk all this. Ill stick with my PC only. I will but unsubbing to my game pass subsciption
it was the same thing when FFXI was on the Xbox, nothing new on the "double" subscription and even then there was a lot of people playing on it, I'm sure it won't be for everyone but this is not a new thing from MS.
Meoni, stop cushioning that idea that this Xbox payment nonsense is wrong. It is OBJECTIVELY wrong. Even team Xbox people like me are tired of their bullshit. I was only excited about this because i wanted to play ffxiv on my beautiful and big TV. Running my gaming laptop to the TV doesn't look the same and there seems to be a latency issue. I am canceling my game pass subscription because of this. It would not cost me MORE than I am already paying but it is a matter of principle. I am done with Xbox. I am going back to PS next generation.
UX/UI experience is not FF14 greatest feature. I suspect the Xbox options will be a support problem for them for awhile.
Xbox must be losing money on game pass to force players to pay for Xbox live to play FFXIV.
Yea that sub cost is extra rough if you're also having to pay for your own internet.

I think this is something on Microsoft's end. I Imagine SE was in negotiation for a while trying to talk them out of it, as it screws them over.

I have no idea why Xbox would paywall a subscription game. My friends thankfully use gamepass already, but still. Pretty ridiculous. Regardless, excited to finally play XIV with friends for the first time in 10 years.
The double sub thing might be because of Xbox not Square. though either way that is gunna suck. I think the thought process is that those who have the Xbox will already have the Xbox live stuff…
im really peeved that existing players cant play on the Xbox bete. i was so ready to transfer my cahracters to the Xbox version and play on it.
The amount of ppl who will be looking to have FFXIV be there only online game is incredibly small. They’re already paying for GP to play other games and they don’t have PS5 or game on PC or they’d play XIV there.
Xbox won't waive the live just for this game. You always have to pay for a service and then pay for a service on Xbox

So if ONLY completely new players can participate in the beta there could be a lot of things not working properly or things missing that a brand new player simply would not know about or that it wasn't working correctly. Seems like this beta is purely a marketing ploy instead of an actual beta where they want legit feedback.

I remeber getting ffxi on xbox long ago, did not need "gold"(pay) version of xbox live to play. Was just on silver

The confusing part is that Microsoft got rid of this model of monetization practically a decade ago when people got extremely frustrated with having Xbox Live Gold to do something as simple as watching Netflix… a paid subscription on top of a paid subscription. But now Xbox users will be expected to pay not just ten bucks (at minimum) for the Core Pass, but the 12 dollars (again, at minimum, not including Retainers, which bumps up the sub by two dollars per additional Retainer.) So, I feel this will not go well for Xbox or Square if they keep this requirement.

I only pay £7 a month for gamepass core and £8 a month for ffxiv sub so it won’t be that bad

Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but the way I understood the situation as written, is "the full game" being included as part of game pass? Meaning the game pass sub would cover the sub cost.
I could be wrong of course. But it doesn't explicitly say "you need a game pass sub, in order to pay the games sub" at least in my interpretation.
Idk I guess it might just be me being optimistic considering their website was fairly unclear on installation details when I installed the game a few months ago.
this has happened for years with xbox with eso or phantasy star universe back in its day but these days they made it so that games that are free to play like pso2 or fortnite can be played without problem as they can be fully played for free but for games that have paid to enter the base game content or a subscription to play model need to pay for xbox's service i play on xbox ps switch and pc and used to stream but currently on hiatus for reasons not related so i have to watch feeds on news and saw a article for the policy changes toward multiplayer games if i remember correctly it was either 22 or 23 that the changes were made so not all multiplayer games get the 2 subs needed treatment but there are only a few i could think of as a person that wishes for free multiplayer like the old days its something that may not be happening anytime soon due to costs to maintain connection to xbox servers and other licensing to allow the port on the system
