You need Reshade, Textools, Dalamud Launcher and other mods. Once you try it, you will never be able to play FFXIV without it ever again.
Just a further clarification for shop price and restricted: Sometimes this is locked behind something that will take a few hours and/or days to get to. For example, beast tribe quests. Sometimes it's an area you don't even have access to yet. So sure, if you have the rep for them built up and you can get it from them then it's good to do so. However, if not then it comes into a question of time/cost, which is what a lot of people base their marketboard prices on.
I think the banning thing should have some clarification, you wont get banned for constructive criticism, only for remarks that are designed to disparage the player. I see a lot of people confuse the two, in both directions. Some are afraid to make a comment that might help someone but are too afraid to speak up because people tell them they will get banned for correcting people, and on the other side there are people who erroneously think disparaging and negative comments are somehow constructive but they are not. You can help your fellow player if you think they are doing something in error, but do it in a polite and civil manner. A kind helpful comment will do far more good than a dozen negative ones.
Oh damn, you still got those crafter specific glamour prism ? That's retro,
I’m playing on the Xbox beta and am trying to level all the crafting classes to 30 so I could make my own gear and since it saves me gil if I don’t mind running around collecting ore, trees, fish and the like.
If we're giving advice in the comments, then allow me to give some; don't be afraid to try using a controller! Especially if you're starting fresh; the early game is quite easy and will give you a gentle learning curve for controller play. Read below and I'll give you a short guide on why and how to get the best experience with controller play.
First of all, why use a controller? For one, it feels very comfortable to be able to sit back in my chair with a controller in my hands than hunching over the keyboard and mouse, moving my hands everywhere and occasionally losing my position. Second, movement feels very natural, you just move the stick where you want to go. It makes it very easy to move quickly and precisely in a way you just cant with kb+m. But what about hotkeys? Well with the right settings, controller play actually lets you have access to up to 3 sets of 16 hot keys, for a total of 48 easy to reach hotkeys; that's more than enough to have ever button every class could ever want to press, with some room for comfortable redundancy if you'd like. There is no class to complex and no fight too challenging to clear with finesse using a controller.
Now lets get into the details of how you do this. Controller selection is important, and will be a matter of personal taste. I personally prefer X-Box style controllers due to the offset analog sticks and the D-Pad which is parallel to the right stick; this allows you to hit d-pad bound hotkeys with your right thumb instead of taking your left thumb off the movement stick. When starting a new character, the game will ask if you want to use controller or keyboard, but if you've already selected keyboard earlier you can switch over in the character config menu by hitting the toggle switch in the top left. In this menu, you can play with a lot of settings and customize things to taste, but I recommend that any controller players immediately go down to the hotbar settings on the left, go to the cross tab, and enable everything under General Settings. Under Cross Hotbar Controls, I like to use hold (explained later). Then in Custom, you should enable both expanded controls, set LT-RT to "Cross Hotbar 2- Left" and RT-LT to "Cross Hotbar 2 – RIght". For WXHB, set LT double tap to "Cross Hotbar 3 – Left" and RT double tap to "Cross Hotbar 3 – Right". Next, for best quality of life, I like to go to "Target Settings" in the left column, then to the "Target" tab, and make sure Auto target settings are enabled and the priority is set to "Closest Range" I also recommend setting the Target Ring to "Unlocked" and turning on "Limit Ring movement to targeting range" and "Press action twice to execute". Once you get a feel for it, you can make some small adjustments to these settings if you find something else more comfortable but this is a good place to start.
Now that you've got that, here's how your actually gonna move and interact with things. Note that I'm using Xbox notation for these controls. Movement and camera are pretty standard for any other 3d game, but if you want to zoom the camera in and out you can do so by holding LB and moving the right stick. A autotargets the nearest npc or object (not players), x brings up the map if no one is targeted and a context menu if anything is targeted. B cancels targeting. Y is Jump. D left and right cycle through available targets (including players), D up and down cycle though your party list (including yourself). The d-pad targeting is a "soft target", the other targeting is a "hard target"; what this means is that you can hard target an enemy, soft target a party member for healing or buffs, use that heal/buff, and then you will automatically lose the soft target and snap back to your hard targeted enemy after your ability is done. If you press A while you have a soft target, it will make that your hard target. Another very handy targeting option is that holding either (or both) triggers and pressing one of the bumpers will hard target the nearest enemy target and go through the list as you press it; this is the controller equivalent of tab targeting and is very useful for target switching during combat.
Speaking of which, during combat you will almost always have one or more trigger pressed. Remember that hold setting I said to toggle on earlier? That allows you to "raise" your hotbars and make them active so that you can use your abilities while the trigger is held. When a bar is raised, the right 4 abilities in the Cross hotbar can be activated with A, B, Y, and X, and the left 4 can be activated using the D Pad. Each Cross Hotbar set has two sets of 8 hotkeys separated by a line; the left set is tied to the left trigger and the right is tied to the right trigger. You have up to 8 hotbar sets, but you'll only need to use the first three. You can toggle which one is on screen buy tapping the bumpers to toggle through them or holding them to pick one; but for most play you'll want to have set one displayed and just bring up 2 and 3 while you're trying to place your abilities on the bar. You can get to set 2 by holding both trigger, and you get to different sides of set 2 by changing the order you press the triggers in; LT then RT for the left side, RT then LT for the right. Simply release the second trigger to return to bar one. For bar 3, you can get to them by double tapping the trigger and holding the second press; LT for the left and RT for the right side. These bars will be raised for 1 button press, then it will go back to set 1; I recommend using this for ogcds or situational abilities.
I know that's a lot of text to read, but it's something I'm really passionate about. Making the switch REALLY improved my gameplay. If you anyone has any questions about getting a controller setup going or need me to clarify anything, feel free to ask!
Also Ninja is not as difficult of a class as people think it is and it's really fun. Play ninja.
Nice vid, man! And I don't even play the game!
I have a veteran tip that somehow a lot of people seem never to catch on: there are certain trials and raids where you cannot do damage to the boss unless you fulfill certain conditions! The classic example is Bismarck (the "Limitless Blue" trial one unlocks in HW). When you fetter the whale to the island, you CANNOT do damage to the chitin caparace unless you're on the whale's back. A lot of physical ranged and casters think they can chill on the island and do damage from there, but they're in fact doing 0 damage! You can tell you're not doing damage because besides seeing your hits go for 0 damage, they have a distinctive metallic "clink clink" sound feedback to them, and visually there's a translucent hexagon showing whenever your animations impact the boss.
"No veteran player expects you skips your cut-scenes" but they sure will harass you with multiple ready checks throughout the cut-scene.
New player to FFXIV just joined on the Xbox open beta/free trial, thanks for the tips I will have to use them
Awesome video. Sorry I video bombed lol. Didn't even realize until I watched it.
Hi I'm new on this game ff14 I've started playing as archer and turn to bard I'm level 60 can you tell me which level fir the next job cuz It doesn't appear in the game thank you
Love how his like change these settings but hey this game is for free play it lol
Played untill lvl 28 was enjoying it… then someone posted in chat about a naughty slumber party thats was gunna happen so i quit the game and uninstalled it knowing a bunch of men who made cat girls was probably gunna show up never again
As a sprout player (began playing for the very first time 10 days ago), it was very informative to know about the shop details of things (selling price, if available in npcs, etc) and being able to sell trash dungeon gear to the grand companies.
Also I'm glad that the community is receptive and understading with the fact that I need to watch the cutscenes to understand the story.
I've played other MMOs (SWTOR per example) that people would go nuts and start spamming chat non-stop if the cutscene played for even 5 seconds.
5:25 As a new player who had the boss of a dungeon be killed whilst I was in a cutscene, I can confirm that sometimes the other players CAN go ahead and kill stuff haha. It's fine though, it was only a lower level dungeon (lvl 24), and I just played through it again afterward instead so I felt I earned the MSQ progress myself 😛
That's the only instance where that's happened too, in general people do wait and have been very friendly ^^ I shall continue to watch the cutscenes and enjoy them 🙂
As a new player, you are going to find it hard to get seals in the beginning, as you will need them to 'level up' your rank in the grand company. Leveling up your grand company raises your cap on the amount of seals you can have at one time. The best way to do this is to do your grand company hunting logs! (Doing hunting logs in general is a great way to get exp up to level 30 or so) – The other way to get seals early on is the adventurer in need on leveling roulette. If you have already unlocked roulettes, when you open your duty finder it will show a role icon to the right, OR, when you click on it, it will state Adventurer in Need (role in parenthesis). It's usually tank or healer, but sometimes you'll get lucky for dps. You can also farm ARR fates for seals, but frankly, I find this to be the least efficient way to get them.
I'm a new player and all I've heard from "legacy" players was complaints that us new guys are allowed to play in the same instance as the are. I got that as an answer when i asked how to sprint.
There's obviously not a correct way to do it, but my experience got a lot better when I changed my hotbar keybinds. The default basically forces you to click the hotbar a bunch.
Just a quest eh? Restricted could mean ranking up a tribal reputation to a certain rank in order to access the vendor.
Just some added information:
1. Allagan tome gear for each expansion is good up to usually 3rd/4th dungeon of the next expansion
example a heavensward augmented shire gear 270 ilvl is good enough up to 3rd dungeon of Stormblood the only time to ditch the old Allagan tome gear is once you past this certain levels in the game (3rd dungeon for SB is level player 65-66 Avg Item level to get in is 250) this is to save you tomes for newer players and the gear you get from quests you can sell them on the Market board for profit since they are HQ items or use them for your future alt jobs.
2. Buying prism via Grand company is a good idea but selling high level items from older expansions for grand company seals is only good if you don't have a crafter that can desynth them. Desynthing items will turn the gear into materials for crafting and can turn into HQ crafting items you can sell for more profit off the Marketboard then selling the gear to the Grand company . Example is Solution items for Alchemy like Immutable that can be bough only via scripts or desynthing items from the latest expac it is more profitable to desyth them and sell them or use them as they make the 640 crafted gear for the latest expac. So don't always sell every items you get from the dungeons if its from dungeons last 2 expacs or 60/70/80/90 as they are valuable.
The shop selling price. Years of playing and did not know that was what it meant. Thank you. Enjoyed your voice also.
The MSQ is super important, but don’t forget to unlock things (the blue missions with the gold plus sign), they will get you all sorts of new content – such as mounts and other fun stuff.
started playing like a week ago and finally got dark knight unlocked but every group i get is hella mean to me for not being good, Like Im new I havent played like 5 years of this game like am I supposed to be an expert right out the gate??
Thank you. About the cutscenes on dungeons i was on pure stress.
I have 2000+ hours in game and have never seen anyone have a problem with waiting for cut scenes. However sometims the tank doesn't realise there is a first timer playing and accidentally pulls the boss while the cutscene is running, so don't be afraid to let people know at the start that you will be watching the cut scenes.
One more thing about watching cutscenes: while you're watching, the rest of us who are waiting, we are usually playing with emotes, some are rubbing up on you without you knowing, popping off fireworks, telling dad jokes, etc.. So, just watch the CS without anxiety. 🫰
Awesome video! I have alot of hours in this game and I don't think I really knew what the shop selling price actually meant.
My tip for newer players would be to make sure you set up at least 3 active hotbars for all of your actions, and while the game will give you one action at a time as you play through it, it is possible to read through what every action does and place it on your hotbars before hand from the Actions and Traits menu. Also to set up your keybinds accordingly with each action in mind and how they can be used across multiple classes (tank mit cooldowns being on the same key, knockback prevention etc). This will help to build up the muscle memory early as you play.
One more thing: don't skip the Novice Hall quests. The Novice Hall is a short walk from Aleport, and the MSQ requires you to go there, but that's about it. Many new players never talk to the "Smith" NPC there, or in the adventuring guilds in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, or Ul'dah, to do the job-specific exercises. These give you valuable information, such as a better understanding of the range of your tank's AOEs, or telling you that healers are expected to do DPS when no healing is required. You'll also get a solid set of gear to get you through your first few dungeons, and an exp bonus ring with some nice stats. the exp bonus is applied from lvl 1 to 30 and is useful for all professions except crafting and gathering. you can access these quests once you've reached lvl 15 and you don't need to go to Aleport, you can just talk to one of the "Smith" NPCs in your starting city's adventuring guild. You can complete these quests for any role (tank, healer, caster, phys. dps) and receive a job-specific set of gear and the ring, which you only get once.
