  1. In case you missed it in chat, you can adjust auto-advance speed in game. I suspect that either Kyle accidentally sped his up or Garrett accidentally slowed his down since you keep getting out of sync. EDIT: I'm wrong!

  2. I'm so glad the mods made you guys figure out the LB mechanic on your own. You got the release night treatment! General tip, any time you randomly get a full LB bar in a fight, the intended method is a tank LB.

  3. This was a fantastic 9 hour ride and we finally got to see a splinter of the powerful emotions this game can cause on good boy Garret! Don't be afraid of emotions man, you are in the FF14 community, we all been there fam! <3

And i hope you enjoy the sweater Kyle! Unfortunately, the accesories are not an option x)

  4. I had one comment yes but what about SECOND comment now that i finished the VOD? Glad you guys seemed to enjoy yourselves so much. What comes next is good but there's something special abiut this patch and the story chapter it closes. If this were a singleplayer game and not an MMO, that scene in Mor Dhona would make a perfect ending.

  5. That moment with Elidibus starting to question why he was doing this got me choked up. The very people he loved and cherished the very reason why he took on this task he began to forget but still persevered.

  6. im sure others have commented on this before, but the production of this patch takes place when Soken was hospitalized. he was battling cancer and yet didnt stop to rest, and we have the masterpiece that is To The Edge

  7. If I had a Gil for everytime an over acting ascian gave a dramatic speech to Garlean royalty in the throne room, I'd have 3 Gil. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice…

  8. There are many in this stream, but one of my favorite moments is them appreciating the trial music, before it really goes the distance and even more in awe. 😊

  9. > Quest dialog

The writers are pretty good with keeping story threads straight. I got Red Mage at level 50, and then replayed the class quests after Shadowbringers. Depending on where you are at with the MSQ, X'rhun Tia will mention the liberation of Ala Mihgo and meeting/training Alisaie.

TVtropes also mentions Tataru and her attempts to become an Arcanist: The guildmaster explains the box search trial if you haven't picked up Arcanist, acknowledges you completing the initiation if you did complete the quest, or, in the very rare event you have the quest and still need to complete the trial, suggests you go complete the initiation with her.

  10. 8:44:15 — Just want to give a shout out to the commendable forbearance of the chat and viewers (and/or the remarkable perseverance of our Mods lol) about managing to not spoil the identity of the much-pondered "Chin" that the guys had made much ado about in previous videos !! Being able to witness them during the Asahi reveal was glorious. *HUGE ROUND OF APPLAUSE APPLESAUCE FOR EVERYONE !*

  11. None of us were expecting what we got. Even knowing that x.3 patches were always impactful, I don't think we could ever have predicted everything we received, especially in light of the pandemic.

  12. I completed 5.3 right before these guys and I don't think I've ever been more confused after seeing that MASSIVE crowd of people in front of the Crystarium after finishing the cutscene. But I get it now, grats Grinding Gear.

  13. I know there'll be many takes and opinions, but I firmly believe that G'raha has a crush on/is just in love with the WoL. It's all done in subtext but it just seems so obvious it may as well be text.

  14. If you remember, in Amaurot, the people there treated you like children. And Elidibus is right around your height. So what makes this especially sad is that he was relatively young compared to the rest of the Convocation. He immediately volunteered to be Zodiark's heart, and that legitimately broke everyone's heart because he was like the younger brother of the Convocation. And ultimately the reason why Emet-Selch helps you seems to be primarily to ensure that Elidibus does not end up alone for eternity.

  15. Some things that might warrant a small explanation as it was mostly hidden on side-content…

In ancient Amaurot it was customary when two adults were in a debate and locked without any hope for a proper conclusion, they would turn to a younger member usually adolescent and ask them for their opinion. As it was stated that children would have a more un-biased view of the world and the issue that was being debated. The shades assuming you are children due to your size invite you to do just that in a sidequest.
Then we take that knowledge and look at the Convocation. Thirteen adult ancients… and one emissary to deal with disputes. That was his job and his title. And a job he took so seriously even Lahabrea and Igheyorm had to come by now and then to tell him to take a break, be a kid a bit.
And then when he was doing his new Duty he saw that his friends were STILL fighting. Again they needed Elidibus and he managed to pull himself out of Zodiark and slightly weaken the Primal that was until then going toe to toe with Hydaelin at a standstill… Likely giving her the upper hand too…

  16. This was a great trial on patch day. The day the devs slowly started to pull back on some of the story trial hand holding.

The required tank lb3, also notice that they introduce you to paying attention to all the visual and audio cues in fights more.

Lol also loved that the LBs that elidibus uses are the various tank/ranged/magic lbs we have access to.

  17. All the stuff you guys are missing in the lore that may be important here, I know you don't want to hear this, but it's in those actually very short stories they have for free on their website. Thanks for the stream guys, it was nice sharing this moment with the community. ♥

  18. Shadowbringers 5.0 and 5.3 just completely shattered me. The music, Eternal Wind, brings it all back. Taking years to recover. And it's not over, your journey continues just as good, or better.

  19. Congrats on finishing 5.3, one of the best portions of the game!

A nice cinematic touch of note: The way your character enters the Crystal Tower to fetch G'raha, is a call back to ARR when G'raha locks himself inside the tower, even replicating the look over the left shoulder as the door closes.

  20. that final lines of Elidibus always get me. The hole storyline of him losing himself and his memories and the only thing that rest is his duty to salvation to a point that he help and became heroes in the past.

  21. Seat of Sacrifice destroyed Elidibus. He idolized Azem like G'raha idolizes the WoL. He was his hero. It's why he took the form of the original WoL, as tribute. And then he learns his opponent is a facet of sundered Azem. He was stuck fighting his hero. And if that wasn't rough enough, Emet was his dearest friend. The fact that Emet created a crystal for Azem, and that crystal brought Azem and Co. back…and showed him Emet one last time. You could see the raw pain on his face. I can't even imagine just how much emotional damage all that inflicted.

  22. 2 things I'd like to point out about the Seat of Sacrifice trial :

The first one is something you probably missed but after surviving Elidibus's LB4, if your party builds up another LB and tries to use it, Elidibus will use Hallowed Ground and pretty much become invulnerable to block it entirely… no matter if it is a LB1, 2 or 3. Basically, you can't rely on LB on the second phase : you need to do it the old, hard way.

The second is a bit meta : you probably heard that already but "To the Edge", the song that plays during the fight, was composed by Soken… while he was in the hospital, undergoing treatment for cancer… unbeknownst to the dev team. That was only revealed in the fan fest that followed where they revealed that Soken survived and beat cancer but he did so all the while continuing to work on the arrangement and melody of "To the Edge" remotely. If you can, I'd suggest watching that Fan Fest bit that's likely very easy to find on YouTube.

So really, "To the Edge" could have been Soken's swan song as well as Elidibus' if he had lost his fight to cancer.

  23. I want to take a moment to contrast something. At 2:07:05, Krile repeats Master Matoya's words: "-the soul is yet an unknown frontier, and that much and more lies beyond our ken."

Now I'm going to flashback to Beq Lugg in 5.1, talking to Alisaie in Ahm Araeng, saying the words: "yet there is much and more about the soul that remains unknown even to me."

With this as a through-line, and looking at both Matoya and Beq Lugg being mages of incredible ability who put themselves into self-imposed exile with only familiars around them – familiars they're experts in making – and both having the speaking backwards broom familiars, and finally Y'shtola at the end of The Grand Cosmos saying "Did you see the brooms? It's uncanny", I am making a clear case that Beq Lugg is the First's version of Matoya in the same way Ardbert was the First's version of you.

All that to say I hope this helps balance the scales a little for Garrett between liking Beq Lugg but not any of the Nu Mou.

  24. So, I'll admit, I may have told a slight lie when I said that you should have just gone to Bozja instead. But hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's a patch that hits everyone in their own way, and seeing how each person reacts to it is always a joy. Perhaps now you'll join us in the future when another new sprout comes along, watching them on their journey. Not that yours is over, of course, far from it. For you must still walk on towards the end.
