I'm starting to get tired of these lazy excuses from SE, I obviously wish no harm on anyone and I know it's mostly PR but claiming that every issue is "so sophisticated" and has to be investigated forever. I mean hrothgar hair isn't super hard to fix and neither is the issue at hand here.
There is a random number generator in my case it was 8 participants putting down 50mil gil each and everyone got their number in the order they entered, I was #1. The random number generator starts at 0 and not at 1 which means the system does not know what to do if 0 is the outcome and no one was assigned a #0. Which means if you're the only participant for a plot then you will have a 50/50 chance to lose to no one.
Either they manage to recover who entered initially (which many people doubt) and just reroll those that had already entered before.
OR
They can't retrospectively figure out who entered if they claimed their refund and the plots go back up which means that now instead of 8 participants we'll probably have about 80, There are so few personal housing, large plots and most of them didn't roll a 0 so now everyone that previously lost will re-enter for our bugged plot, diminishing all of our chances to win a big plot.
That's the most frustrating part.. This was for a lot of people the only realistic chance to get a large / medium plot in a long time and having that taken away because of the simplest coding error is just frustrating. I'm almost certain that SE will not address this to anyones benefit.
Oh Jesus Christ that's awful lmao
10 RNG X
20 If X = 0 GOTO 10
30 Set X "House" = 1
Why am I able to think up solutions to these problems that billion dollar corporations can't solve?
Imagine if SE had the money for a QA team that actually tested things. Instead they are burning their money making random bad games like The Avengers, Forspoken and the president of SE even expressed how he wants in on that nft gravy train.
Oh hey, I showed up in a video lol!
But yeah, the plot I bet on returned a result of 0, but that plot has 13 total entries.
Also, rollbacks would be the worst possible option, because that would mean people would lose progress in the rest of the game. That would be a fucking nuclear meltdown waiting to happen.
No, they cannot take the option to just reopen the lottos. That fucks over the people who originally entered by forcing them to bid again with worse odds because now there will be even more people betting on those plots.
No, the only outcome that's anywhere near fair is to just fix the bug, then reroll the zeroes and "no participation" bids to get a winner from the people who were originally bidding on it.
Also again, have you forgotten that this is the FFXIV community? Reading patch notes and OF posts isn't something a lot of people do. Of course they aren't gonna know what's going on.
Would we rather the program return 0 and no one win, or return NULL and have the server flip the table and crap the floor?
so many FCs have wiped on housing bid (savage).
I heard they will nerf the fight soon.
my Fc god house and if they do roll backof all server beliave me that server will be more on fire than in 7th ubral clamity it's going to be worst that bahamut
My FC was quite fortunate it seems. We had 5 FC members bid on a large house to have more odds in winning (Was only 1 other that bid on it, 2 if you include the evil 0). Thankfully number 2 had won!
Hope this gets sorted for others asap!
I just want a house. I feel so defeated.
I still don't understand why they don't have instanced housing options where you can buy any sized house (based on cost) in whatever zone the devs make avail. I guarantee that 99.9% of people looking to buy a house, but fail to do so through no reasonable fault of their own, would take an instanced house over a district.
The districts can still exist obviously, but why not ALSO have instanced plots. Like, I get that servers are an issue, sure, but it is impossible that they cannot dedicate server capacity to instanced housing, given how fucking massive the bandwidth must be to have an entire district function like it does now. Remember, we have instanced rooms through FC or apartments. This function already exists lol.
I relate their unwillingness to do instanced housing to the Hrothgar hairstyle issue. They're great in some regard, but they're REALLY off their rockers when it comes other things. Also remember, the devs are not infallible. For years following 2.0, they've had a lot of fuck ups and half assed content releases. Generally not so much with combat or story, but with features and horizontal content. Squadrons, RMT mishaps, initial Gold Saucer, etc.
That RMT one is notoriously bad and ALSO an example related to these types of failures. They didn't have spam filters on release. RMT were spamming the shit out of chat and you couldn't stop them unless you just closed chat completely. Say, Yell, Shout, Tell. You were spammed in all ways. Then when that better dealt with, the random party invites happened for RMT… and we can imagine just how annoying that is to have pop up every few seconds. The devs really are hit or miss with their capabilities. Well above the norm in both the good and bad lol.
Go program it yourself then :))))
Calling it now, a dev made it in the code where the lotto system starts at 0 and not 1…
I'd suggest to make plots buyable like normal BUT it'll take 1 day to finally get the plot and IF another person trys to buy the same plot, it switches to lottery, if you are the only person after that one day, you'll get the plot.
"The winning number is 0" – it's even more like real world now.
0 won as i was the only one player to bid, but atm i didnt take back my money. I just sent a ticket and wait if that will work hopefully.
That's some FF7 tier coding right there.
Let's all collectively pray to Byregot The Builder to create more wards
We managed to get our FC plot as the only participants and have already relocated, as have several others. A rollback is a bad bad idea. The small plot next to us had the bug happen where it shows nobody entered (it had 3 before lottery ended), we got very lucky!
I think one thing people forget about FFXIV housing is that it's supposed to be an endgame grind. That's why FC rooms and apartments are easily accessible for everyone. It's why plots are locked behind lvl's and areas. It's something special you grind for like everything else. Playing the game for a few months doesnt make anyone entitled to get a house. The new system being messed up is bad on SE. But getting a big house in the best plot etc is supposed to be hard to do and Fc's have for a long time gotten the short end of the stick, many not able to use company workshots cause they cant get a house even as a team.
A lot of the people that were the only participant may have been on Oceanic Servers. Some people are still concerned with leveling up so many wards still have tons of houses with no bids on them. The one I bid on only had two people (and I lost to them even though they snipped the house out from under me at the last minute…) and yet it was one of the beachfront houses in the Mist.
So…yeah…
We got a really nice large for our itty bitty FC and it didn't go to 0 for us
Fortunately, I won my medium plot in ishgard. Stayed up all night just to see the results. However, it fucking sucks knowing that anyone couldâve gotten that 0 bug. Condolences to those who got that bug. I wonder what theyâre gonna end up doing.
Was this only on plots with 1 entrant? Because It could be when they tested it, they only tested with 2 or more entrants. Believing that when there was only 1 entrant they would automatically get it.
I think they will check the logs (with some sort of bot or w/e) and award those who were the only entrant the house they should have gotten, may or may not deduct the gil.
No0 is just blackrock buying up all the houses so they can rent it to you at a premium…just like in real life
This house lottery system is quite a mess for now. Beside loosing my plot bid while being alone, i also dunno how, but my bid for in another ward than the first time.
Also on an alt, i bid for a personnal house and suddenly yesterday this alt was bidding for a FC ?! Oo (and believe me i triple check closely it was for personnal house)
Guess I don't have to feel too bad about not yet having enough gil to buy a house yet. I get a bit more time to get some and stand a chance at getting one.

the devs make the housing a manufactured crisis so you can keep paying every month to not lose your house. they can make unlimited amount of homes, just look at apartments they can make as many instances as they want, physical size does not matter. i bought my house way back. even FFXI had a "house" for every character on there low bandwith dark age servers.
the FFXIV housing is a business decision not a server limitation.
During the middle of this video, I realized I needed to go check… and wow, I can't believe it. In my ward, the house I bid on and about 3 more, number 0 won. I took my money back. It says… current participants are 11, but 0 won so I dunno. I hope me taking my refund didn't somehow bone me. o.O
Also: "There were no participants in this lottery"
Ok I'm done… bye zep
Iâm not even that mad but just wish I could throw down a bid on this round instead of having wait for the next round
I was incredibly lucky and got the plot I wanted without issue (aside from being broke and having to grind 450k gil afterwards lol), but I feel like a few things could've been done better for the sake of those affected by the bug. Examples being taking those last one or two hours to make sure this wouldn't happen, alongside opening up more wards for private housing instead of FC housing. Like, I was genuinely shocked at how many wards in Empyreum were exclusively for Free Companies, an entire 18 wards, whereas only 6 were for private buyers.
So you got screwed by a bug. Get over it, it's not end of the world. Be patient and wait while devs WORK and implement a fix, then try again. Stop crying. Shit happens, it is a part of life.
so many FC houses are empty as well LMAO
I feel like they could fix their server limitations by delegating certain things to client-side. For example, they could probably add many more housing wards and even allow twice as much furniture inside houses if they made it so the information for the inside of personal housing was somehow stored client-side. I don't know about all the details, but I feel like they could definitely optimize things by using the processing power of personal computers more without increasing the strain on hardware very much and free up quite a bit of server resources.
I know a couple of people in my FC won the bids on their houses.
None of them was even the first bid.
Apparently the houses where #0 won were likely a result of someone messing up the randomizer so it only pulled from 0 and 1.
Which, if true, and the people who had the first bid realize that they lost a 50% chance of winning, it's probably gonna be that much more of a gut punch for them.
The houses that had bids and no one won are the ones that most likely had an actual bug and not just a programming mistake, again this is just conjecture until Yoshi P explains what happened or if he explains exactly what happened.
Edit: To add to the first point about the randomizer. The #0 is likely meant to be a placeholder that should have gotten replaced by the first bid, then any bid after the first would have just added more numbers to the randomizer.
Again, this is just conjecture and it's not even really my guess or explanation, this comes from a friend who did a much better job of explaining his guess.
This is absolute bs IMO all of it, I've camped placards in my day to no avail spent weeks camping them.
I've played since 2.0 and have always struggled like hell to get a house.
So I put down money for the most boring plot location that had no1 else bid on it until some sprout who hasn't even completed msq, has 1 job at 90, swoops in the last remaining hours to luck out and win.
Housing is literally the only thing left that I have yet to meddle with and tbh it's been the biggest f****ing waste of my time ever.
our FC was 1/3 on a large plot….. annnnnd 0 won smh
Another big problem is having wards 1 – 18 small plots only available to freecompanies. About half of the small plots were never bid on in 1 – 18 on my server.
Can't we just have instanced houses that are on client side or something.
Edit : Extension for collecting refund appears to be JULY from me just looking at the plot I bidded on now.
The thing is : Its not just zero being an issue. On OCE – Most plots only had one bid and near NO ONE has a house. And almost all of us got the zero error; all wards, all areas. If it was just in the lottery, it should have been 50/50 chance to win with one bid, however we near all lost : not reporting bias.
One trend that seems to happen is the ones that WON bid in the last day or two – us early bidders all got "zero". I am in the ward I tried to bid in : theres one house. At 1am when the results came in, everyone was screaming/ flooding chat.
They shouldn't roll back obviously, as you said that's a terrible idea, forget dragons on war, that'll split the world into 13 shards lol
That being said, I think a fair idea is adding a few more wards, opening them to first come first serve, and opening some of those empty almost fc wards to personal housing, think that would go a long way to make ppl happy, as it is ppl are counting down the days before at fcs hit the 30 day mark an can then buy plots like the main ones
Taking housing savage to a new level.
