  1. The mod situation is crazy. Went to a venue once and the one question everybody asked was "mARe??". It has come to a point where you're expected to use mods to go to venues or get into the social aspects of the game at all. Many of the people who uses them straight won't even consider you if you don't use mods as well.

  2. WoW trade chat on my server yesterday was talking about FFXIV, caught somebody say “ff14 is for gay twinks” and a minute later critique Dawntrail with everybody else haha. I also play on MG though and people there are (usually) nicer than the top servers. They get pretty serious about their RP though.

I’ve been playing on MG since Legion or BFA and I haven’t seen anybody mention FFXIV until after the influx of WoW players during Shadowbringers/Endwalker. Happy to see so many people enjoy both games, even if we all discovered it later than we should have.

  3. I have to (unfortunately) disagree that the community is "better." When I first played FFXIV: it didn't matter if a player was doing side content, "optional" content, or whatever. If a player asked for help in chat: they got it no matter what it was they were doing. Now? I've seen and experienced the "get gud" mentality, the do it solo replies, and the "just skip" it knee jerk reactions. So no: the helpfulness and friendly community of FFXIV is almost gone in that respect. While there are some that enjoy solo play (which baffles me in a MMO): I want to play and experience FFXIV with the players of the game. However, it seems as though that the FFXIV community would rather "make" a player play solo than integrate them into playing as a MMO. The whole mods/cheating thing doesn't address the core issues of player behavior in FFXIV. The community as a whole needs to get back to the pre-Endwalker days and return to being the community that was touted as being so "helpful, friendly, and waiting to see other players succeed in all aspects of the game." Right now: the community is more fractured that a sundered star.

  4. Took me 9 years to finally use mods in this game. I never realized how much those combat vfx mods could be a much needed refresher in a time where i felt like i needed a new mmo to replace 14 lol i probably would've quit the game this expansion if i was still playing on console tbh

  5. I've played off and on since day one (1.0) and can honestly say that the community has been consistently pleasant during my playtime, the only time I can recall when It was anywhere close to "bad", was when It merged with the playstation players, which shouldn't surprise anyone đŸ€Ł

  6. Ive been playing since 1.0. Mods have always been abused. Just most didnt realize. I dont think its gotten worse maybe more accessible but people have always been using mods in this game especially in ARR because alot of the people playing also played wow. I played both games and most of my friends came from wow and immediately downloaded mods for ff. I think people are more aware of it now but overall it has always been used in high amounts.

  7. Zepla, you're a NAME and you're female, when you say things people listen. That's the unfortunate reality. The reality other people live in is that everything is seen as toxic criticism due to the official feedback policy.

Back when I was trying the game I've never seen any crowd more stewed in their toxicity than this, and that includes WoW during SL.

Whenever I tell people what turned me off the game, instead of, "Yeah, I can understand that," I get called names and similar. IMO the FF14 community can go and sit and spin on a huge branch without using lube.

You need to apply critical thinking to this. Content creators, streamers mostly, and especially female ones, will always have a different experience than the masses. A random person can say one thing and people will call them names. You say the same thing and even if heated people are nicer and more constructive.

I've seen the opposite of this in GW 2 where unless you essentially virtually fellate the content creators their fans will pounce on you if you have even the slightest criticism.

  8. My take with the modding community and the third-party visual mods like clothes or skins, big boobs, or big d's. Either way. Why do they care what my computer renders back to me? As long as i'm not broadcasting it or harassing others why do they care? It's as if they're trying to find an issue and make it a big deal so they have something else to do since they're not developing atm.

  9. I will always understand people who use cosmetic mods, since, let's be real, even with the graphics update every race has like 2 faces that are acceptable but could still be better. If you play this game for hours a day, and you just want your character to look nice, I don't see a problem with that. I myself don't use mods because it's too much hassle. I used to play WoW for years and anyone who tells you that you don't need mods to play WoW is just pure gaslighting you. It has always been a nice feeling to not need that stuff in FF14, so I have a problem with players aggressively pushing mods on other players. Do what you will, but shut up about it!

  10. Square refused to give me more glamour plates and more customize options for my Idol RP toon

I can’t have hats on a Viera. My miqo should be a buxom bouncy Idol with a new costume for every occasion. Multiple costumes per job.

I haven’t played a minute of Dawntrail (I can’t stomach playing the substandard MSQ for hours) and Square won’t out the features in the game that I need (more glams, more customization, better performance mode) so I won’t even come back without installing and using mods myself

I don’t blame the people who mod

  11. I'm one of those WoW-Refugees (kinda, sorta, somewhat, technically, lol) and considering that the community was one of my main reasons for finally quitting WoW for good during Shadowlands… well, i can't say if it's better or worse now than it used to be ten years ago, but i can most definitely say that i like the FF-Community a lot more.

  12. Willget flamed for this but.. FFXIV community changed to MUCH worse and one of the reasons (along bad msq) that made me quit – take a break.

PF is very toxic and full of elitist – we mocked WoW community but FFXIV is not far from it, its very close. Passive agressive players are common even in casual content like normal dung.

Mods took over. Everything is around them. Overly sexual mods to make chars like they are from porn/hentai all over the place. "Do you have Mare?" – this is how random conversation with some player will end up 90% of time.

    Drama is everywhere.

Players dont play game, they wanna play second life and have virtual/online relationships. This is FFXIV in 2024.

  13. Shame is a dangerous thing, people feel like they need to use the tools to avoid being mistreated and so they'll slowly conform to the required tools to get the raiding content down. It's a problem because SE elevates difficulty in the example of TOP and people feel they must use the 3rd party addons or else be kicked from their statics.

  14. I think mods are a good thing (cosmetic), it allows people to be more creative with their characters and makes features from the vase game more usable such as gpose and housing .etc

Sadly there are cheaters in every game but it doesnt make it okay, it would be good that SE Cracks down on cheats without negatively impacting harmless third party such as QoL plugins and glamour mods.

You don’t need third party to beat content (Excluding TOP P5 fuck that stupid shitty fight) but third party has made my FFXIV experience so much better and more fun ❀

  15. Generally people are friendly if a bit forward, Its astounding to me how open people were with mods. Worst was someone sending me a picture of their view of my character and they'd put her in some sleazy outfit. Wasnt too happy with that.

  16. A lot of it is probably the influx of wow players. I was one of them, but I made the conscious decision to change my behavior once I understood the difference. I was in about early ShB before that happened though.

  17. Let me just throw this out here.

The FF14 playerbase is awesome. The community is NOT a constant and never has been. The "community" is the online presence on reddit/instagram/twitter/tiktok/whatever the kids are using and is generally young people that are new to the game and going through the MSQ. They are a completely different group of people every two years and their views on the game are completely irrelevant to the actual long term playerbase. They really don't have any understanding of what the game is – to them it's just MSQ which to the actual playerbase is maybe 5-10% of the game.

Just so you understand the average person in the FF14 "community" is probably 16-18 years old. The average person in the playerbase is like 27-35. These are just two completely different groups of people. I've been in 4 raiding groups and never met anyone under 25.

This is actually the biggest issue with the game currently. The MSQ has gotten so long that the only new players that can get through it feel like there's nothing to do because they're conditioned into thinking the game is 100% MSQ. So they just quit when the MSQ is over and their satisfaction of the game is 100% tied to the quality of the story.

I think we're at the point where the only people that are enjoying the game are long term players and only <1% of the new players every EP actually go on to add themselves to the long term playerbase. The developers do need drastic action here or the game will become more and more irrelevant every EP – the covid boom should not be expected to repeat ever again. Even if we have another covid style event, XIV won't be the game people flock to.

  18. Mods are a fix to what ffxiv refuse to fix or implement themselves. Speaking specifically about the cosmetic mods here (which I do NOT use myself!) The glamour dresser and glamour plate system in this game pales in comparison to WoW's transmog system and no matter how many suggestions I leave them they refuse to do anything about it. 800 slots is nothing. If it had 8000 it wouldn't be enough. The amount of grinding and gametime completionists and collectors would get out of the game if they expanded this system at least tenfold is crazy. The amount of money they are missing out on from selling things in the mogstore as well because of the same issue. Then again I've never seen a company more allergic to making money with the whole visa debet card issue that they allowed to continue for months on end and during an expansion launch of all things… Also, armoire? Why does this exist in 2024?

  19. Been playing since ARR beta and I have to say I do miss the old days but for different reasons. FFXIV felt more social back then. A lot of the people I used to play with fell off and with trusts now there’s just not a need to go out and find others for certain content. The FC I’m in is dead too so maybe I just need to find an active one lol. Anybody on Malboro?

  20. Could someone explain what you mean by "mods"? I have no idea what you're discussing. If it's about "glamour", I put a few cute items on my Lalafell, but I almost never look/examine what others are wearing, carrying, using.. just don't care. Is this about people judging what others have on their characters? I've been playing FFXIV over 10 years and I don't have a clue what you're talking about….

  21. as someone who uses cosmetics mods only i can say without a shadow of a doubt that alot of times if anything those mods make peopel spend more money in the cash shop and alot of people who use them just want their characters to look how they envision it in their heads, it can get out of hand fast and someone people tend to take it way to far but most of us are usually just "hey this looks nice im gonna make my bun girl have a biger booty and wear some jeans", again most of the time its really not that deep but because of the way people act it can look that it is that deep

  22. Been playing for 11 years straight now (2013 early access ARR) and will say the community was a lot more “together” back then, mostly because:

    1. Everyone was in their “honeymoon period” everyone was new (including legacy players). Players were still working out how the game works and would type in-game to teach others mechanics and people were receptive because there were very few outlets to get info so people chatted in-game more especially without the existence of #2.

    2. Discord didn’t even exist (released in May 2015 around before Heavensward) so unless you really vibe’d with someone to invite them into your Mumble or Ventrilo you were most likely chatting in-game.

    3. The game was an absolute success but its popularity wouldn’t really increase till around Heavensward~ (undoubtedly ShB was peak with The Great Exodus happening.) As to say the FFXIV community was the FF community predominantly.

Of course it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows back then the amount of content was severely lacking you were either chasing BiS, become Omni-crafter playing Market Sim, or leveling every class to 50. Prior to CT and more casual content the endgame was pretty cutthroat Coils was a slog because of the terrible ilvls back then so it bred a lot of elitism back then.

  23. Going to be honest I went from WoW to FF14. Wow gets you no serious replies everyone trolls you. In ff14 there are more people willing to help. A lot. However when you start doing high end content thats where you encounter a few bad eggs. But always just 1 person in a group so to me this isn’t a big deal. What i find far threatening to ff14 is the overwhelming negativity towards criticism towards the game. Doesn’t matter if it’s in game our out people start to become very passive aggressive until finally just outright aggressive.

  24. The change in the community is really about the horde of WoW refugees looking for asylum, but they bring their WoW culture over with them… WoW players are accustom to giving feedback and voicing concerns, while mods were basically required to play WoW, so it doesn't surprise me the FF community is going that direction.

  25. I started modding like 2 years ago. before that, i never considered doing that, cause i was in fear of my account. but since then, for me personally, the game just got better because of it. it is an absolut gain if you want to do it. speaking here ofc only of cosmetic and some qol stuff.
I can have my character look and feel more like i want to and am not so hughly limited with what SE offers themself. i consider my character still have a xiv style of aesthetic. but even if some ppl mod their character to look as if they come out of cyberpunk or where ever, if that is great for them, cause thats what they like to see. and they don't force those aesthetic on other ppl. cause only if you willingly synchronize someone in mare, you will see them as they envision themself

  26. As a wow refuge during shadowlands, I had severe thick skin. It was such a nice change where DF members were so inviting, giving out tips.
Obviously there were the odd 1% of toxicity but that gets blacklisted quick.

  27. When you started, the fan base was still largely old FFXI players. And the XI community was rabid about 3rd party tools. They would report people for using an IME that allowed you to type in Japanese with the USA client and the GMs would enforce that shit with an iron fist. The lax mentality of the community reflects the lax enforcement. And I don’t see any reason for it to change. There is no material degradation of the XIV experience because someone wants to make their character have mommy milkers for their personal time in game.

  28. Look, it’s not my fault FFXIV devs hate female midlanders and gave them no love when it comes to beauty.😂😂😂 also- not enough good long hairstyles.
I have standards when it comes to how my video game characters should look like, that being said I don’t go around telling people that I use face and hair mods.

Mods is what kept me engaged with FFXIV content. My game looks beautiful. My mods do not hurt or impact anyone but me. Hence, I shall continue modding and enjoying my super pretty character 😅.

  29. all the modding made me actually take a break again from FF14, i joined a FC and kinda vibed with them, when some of them announced they are afk for like 2-3 hours doing RL stuff their character was running duties with NPCs (so they pretty much botted) posting hard modded pictures and using Deadly Boss Mods in savage content and kicked me out of the FC intern static because i refused to use it, while i dont mind most fashion stuff unless its highly over the top, it kinda killed my interest in doing much content.
same for crafting just being able to queue X amounts of items and go afk so the mods do all the work instead of pressing the makro button after each craft like a normal player would.

  30. Regarding Mods, I gotta wonder how many people ever actually got banned (especially got the account deleted) for them. We all know it's against TOS but we also all know they tend to look the other way when it comes to enforcing it
