I don't play Savage because I don't have 8 people I trust to not be toxic and want to try it. And I don't trust party finder to be patient enough. I play on console so I have no clue what my "parses" are. I think I'm probably solid enough to do it but I just wait until I can cheese it in further expansions.
The problem is the margin for error. Why have 60-100k hp when everything's a one shot? What's the point when one little pinky toe out of place leads to a damage down debuff that lead's a 10 minute fight into an enrage death? What fun is it when all it takes is 1 person out of 8 to sink the whole damn raid? There's also FFXIV's terrible netcode where if you're in an AOE marker, it's already too late. This is the only mmo I've ever played where the netcode is so bad that there's a one second delay on everything.
Iâve casually savaged every tier since ARR on their release patch. Honestly I donât think savage is much of a jump from extremes, more of a lalihop. Generally the mechanics are only harder in the sense that if you mess something up your whole team wipes, but Iâd say barbEX is as difficult as carbuncle savage mechanically speaking. Maybe I have pf brain rot so spamming the fights over and over and over and over just hoping for a clear ascended me to a zen zone.
You wanna know difficult? Try starting a FC on a game that has more gate keeping than the US border patrol. You can offer the world to people but unless your a female roe pandering your night club its not happening. That why people random invite. The days of true FC building are over.
7:40 I freakin' HATE those storyline quests the most. I didn't make a character to run around larping as Thancred or Alphinaud.
as reaper player, i dont do savage but trial extrems for mounts, i can admit i forget about my dot at times like oh shit i forogt put it on after thr gian aoe mechanic was done.
The difficulty of savage is the number of people required. I canât even get three other people to schedule for dnd since Iâm in a bad timezone. Getting 8 people to push even on a low stakes learning party is rough, and trying to do it solo through pf is far more trouble than itâs worth. Just trying for mount primals on ex already gets pain for interpersonal issues
Sticking to MSQ is not very demanding, but also every battle is first time and then you continue and forget, don't learn.
Unless… you want to learn and you want to better. I realised how much I improved over the months with my playstyle, but while doing MSQ, I was bit afraid or comitting time to do savage and stuff đ not anymore!
Ive actually been interested in getting into savage raiding, but I am honestly terrified of it. The hardest content ive done in the game was Hyd….mmm…extreme because I respected what she did so much that I felt she deserved the time and attention. Didn't realize how much went into it because I was about to join my FC's raid team, but I couldn't because while I did have the required gear score I didn't have the latest gear and the gear that I did have that was acceptable wasn't melded and as a DPS I had to make sure my damage could be as big as possible. I still have yet to run any savage tier content because I'm too nervous to try….
Not everyone can clear everything in FFXIV.
Some simply have a limited amount of time to play, they have the skill for ultimate but not the time.
Some are just bad, they have an unlimited amount of time but they refuse to learn anything and all suggestions they meet with "You no pay MY SUB!!!".
Other then these groups there are those who do not care, they login to water their plants and take their chocobo out for a walk. Among this group I think there are many that if they wanted to and had time could clear everything along with a group of friends, but they want to be able to complete the required content without a problem. This is the largest group of FFXIV players, they are the group we can not do without since if they all quit the game would not be able to keep the servers on.
I had a Bard in the level 83 dungeon only using their level 1 ability over and over. No songs, no DoTs, a rare Great Strides. Never using their proc. Designing content difficulty to be more difficult would be pretty tough if there are people like this who lack the ability to read or have pattern recognition. Think story content just has to be brain dead.
I definitely get intimidated by savage. I play casually so I really want to play and be able to wipe and learn but eventually succeed. But doing a fight that needs me to practice over days or weeks is not feasible for me. I'd love something in between.
The difficulty gap between the content is too wide. Casuals play normal mode and find it too easy (i mean casual but legit players not mr braindead lvl 90 conjurer with stone vigil gear) and then they try out savage or extreme and its way too hard for them to learn quickly and then they turn off
Extreme trails. Boom thereâs your mid core content. (And also stuff like Bozja imo)
I'm a casual player and used to be intimidated by EX and Savage raids. Then one day, I tired it with some of my fc mates (it was eden savage with echo) and I had a blast! Only because normal versions are no longer challenging when you've played for 2 years.
My major limitations to do savage regularly is time commitment. And the loot system turns me off even further.
I don't even do extremes unless I can unsync and do them by myself. I tried to do Unreal fights in the party finder when they first came out with the Shiva one, but after a couple of groups where the group fell apart after like three wipes, I never went back. If it's any sort of hard group content, I just write that off as stuff I'll not get to do until I can unsync it.
What I don't get is what is the frickin point of making the later fights in a savage tier significantly more difficult than the first two fights when they all drop parts for the same item set. The developers confessed to making the first half equal to extremes, which means people who can't complete a difficulty higher than that will never complete the item set. It's frustrating because that is literally why someone would do the raid tier.
I don't play games for challenge or difficulty, but for entertainment and in MMOs, the social aspect. I also lack the patience for raid prog- if I fail something 3-4 times in a row all I want to do is quit and do something else. I'm not awful at this game, people I play with tell me I should try the hard content, but… no.
I'm glad high end content exists for people who like it. It doesn't need to be made easier; it's just not for everyone.
I'm drunk, you don't have an excuse!
i wish we had some solo alternative for the current best gear, i know by doing that, then we would practically need an ultimate every tier or some form of content that is requiring that bis gear, but thatâs not hard to come up with.
For story mode the very easy option was the best thing they added. Now I just intentionally wipe to get very easy so I can just nuke the quests. Before hand you had to waste your time on mobs and bosses that have no mechanics and it was just a massive waste of time.
The lack of variety in high end endgame content is an issue.
People who would never touch a Savage raid might be more interested in a Savage Dungeon or other alternatives (Solo Hard Content would be interesting…) The game doesn't need to be easier but it should allow more options for endgame challenges (with good loot of course!)
