Already unsubbed from the game to enjoy a real summer vacation. Hope so much the Post MSQ is better.
Wuk also having the MC role in the "moments" made sense story-wise (which wasn't very good), but not gameplay-wise.
It's still YOU the player fighting the battles, and Wuk swooping in during the cutscene to take center stage that made me dislike player character's "mentor" role to Wuk due to gameplay format remaining the same and not being able to facilitate it properly, not so much Wuk herself.
Also the meme of talking to Wuk 130 times, actually showcases how bad the writing in DT is that nearly EVERYTHING is forced to be told through interactions with a singular character, since she needs to be there for her 7 glowing pokemon tokens. Then later she is JUST always there for Sphene… How? Why? Who cares, because the story doesn't, she just needs to be there even thought at that time player character taking the MC role again would make 13000% more sense than Wuk for the context of both story and gameplay.
Given that Wuk Lamat is 90% of the story, I feel like saying “it’s not just Wuk Lamat” is kind of an oxymoron.

I do agree though. So many moments in the story had me baffled.
I feel like Dawntrail's story was mid as Stormblood, but at least in Stormblood I warmed up to Lyse while still slightly hating her.
But the post story content things have me excited, I just hope 8.0 is better with MSQ.
It's a bad story and it's an even more surprisingly bad story since its ff14 msq story.
The MSQ, the class rebalancing and simplification, and the raid tier being the easiest at least in my memory going all the way back to E1s has made me just walk away from the game… not so much a hiatus but a full walk away with apathy.
The MSQ was so bad it was the first time I ever skipped dialog/cutscenes, going all the way back to ARR I was never bored enough to do this. This combined with Wuk Lamat which is basically a Naruto shadow clone, which as a character archetype is very hit or miss with people. However this character is shoved in your face and down your throat like a damn stalker. It got so bad that my one wish from this expansion was for this character just to die so I could be rid of it.
The class rebalance has been going the wrong direction since ShB. Every single time we get a rebalance its always to make the class more "streamlined" aka easier to play. This in itself is not a bad thing, however they always combine raising the floor for the lower end players to play the class decent, with lowering the ceiling of the classes max best most min/max players to the point that there is nothing left intricate or nuanced to milk the class for more damage etc.
The streamlining (dumbing down) of the classes is always pitched in favor of making the game "harder" from a mechanic perspective. "Its fine that the classes are all being simplified because now they can focus on more intricate and complex raid mechanics" I have seen this said on repeat since ShB and I have to ask "Who is your copium dealer and can I get some please?" This was by far the easiest savage tier I have ever seen. The extremes outside Zodiark's "Danger Dorito" are the easiest I have seen. Where is the payoff for the reduced difficulty of the classes? They have imo plateaued in game difficulty, and people are in denial about the class difficulty.
I'm the exact opposite of Preach. I've grown to really appreciate Dawntrail a lot more watching other people play through it. There are things I don't like (Krile getting a bit part in what was supposed to be her expansion), but its clear that they set up themes that resonate throughout the entire story, and that they pose moral questions to the players that are constantly debated in Twitch chat. And I think that, seeing the streamers who really care about the lore and treat it seriously enjoy DT more than those who don't really backs this up. Then again, I'm one of the weirdos who Stormblood is my favorite expansion (came in after ShB, pre 5.3) because of liking the mirrored Lyse/Hien paths and thinking Fordola is the best written character in the game.
When a cook makes you a meal that makes you sick, you dont respect their work. I am sorry but I dont appreciate the lead writers work in DW and 6.5. MSQ. Those two together are easily the worst piece of story content this otherwise amazing game has had and I hope YoshiP acknowledges this in the next live letter.
I think they just used Wuk as a scape goat to give the fans a reason why the expansion wasn't great when it was really the overall gameplay. 👍🏽
The problem has a name, and it's Daichi Hiroi. He is the MSQ writer for 6.1 – 7.0. Until this is articulated clearly you guys are just beating around the bush and not getting to the heart of the matter.
The franchise format obscures the true nature of the writer. Because all of it is XIV, people tend to think there is some kind of continuity. People abstract it into a sort of gestalt entity, which is 'the writers.' And they tend to view the works as interchangeable. But if they were presented with two books, one by Natsuko Ishikawa and one by Daichi Hiroi they would immediately see these as two different works by two different authors and judge accordingly.
Stormblood was way worse can't even compare how bored I was in stormblood
Sry but don’t see your point at all. Wuk Lamat isn’t that bad and the plot feels more or less fine. Stormblood and ARR are so much worse.
Was trying to find the clip for myself so I searched the name of the clipper directly. And it's someone that nearly-only answers and retweets Zepla's stuff. It's very weird.
It *is* wuk lamat everyone is just saying its not because trans VA. The trans doesnt matter its okay to criticize someone if they are trans. She was bad. The character was bad. The voice acting was bad. The writing was bad. The pick for voice acting was bad. Everything was *so bad* the only redeeming factor period has been the combat.
Starting to learn that I'm one of the few that loved Dawntrail beginning-to-end. Love Wuk Lamat and her journey. It wasn't perfect and I see awkward bits that doesn't impact my enjoyment
FFXIV ( Dawntrail : The rise of the cringe )
i think people are scared to criticize wuk lamat now because they will be labeled homophobic
I feel like this expansion has made me experience what is essentially the 5 stages of grief. Now, I just feel sad and disappointed to see the game this unrecognizable, to me.
dawntrail msq makes stormblood msq a god tier . Do enjoy the dungeons, the extras, the everything else.
I still have it above SB 🤷♂️
I wasnt expecting another Shadowbringers or Endwalker
But for them to make an MSQ even worst than ARR is quite something
If i were to rate this expantion it would definitly be a Wuk Lamat out of 10
When they said the writer of this expantion was the same that gave us that Golbez arc i knew it was gonna be over
only Disney Andies think that there's nothing wrong with the MSQ. They should also expect that their opinions should not be taken seriously.
You are wrong, anybody that didn't enjoy Dawntrail story has little to no idea on what a good story is it seems, and its okay to be over ff14… you can move on instead of using made up excuses to make it seem like the game forced you out. go back to playing Wow.
Whether you liked the MSQ or not, this clip explained absolutely nothing about Preach's, or Zepla's, or anyone's thoughts about the MSQ.
Look im gonna be honest i didnt have a problem with the DT story i actually enjoyed it. Is the DT story as good a shadowbringers or heavensward definitely not does it have flaws of course it does but I didn't think it was terrible but if wuk lamat never appears again i wouldn't care she feels like a worse version of lyse tbh
this expac single handedly made me an msq skipper after 7 years of reading everything lol
Looking forward to the video.
In my opinion the main issues with DT is neither deep or, well anything else, it is simple this.
The player character is turned into an npc and not given any time to shine. There are other flaws of course, the main one along with the others were also pressent in SB .0, which makes sense since it is the same person being main writer for both of them.
A solution for the future would be to stop using this main writer as main writer because he is clearly not up to the job.
Yeah Wuk Lamat aside Zooral Jas motivation is also stupid as fuck his whole point is "War is bad so i will go to war with the people of Eorzea so they realise war is bad and they stop"
Its really not that deep ngl, 7.0 story was bad but putting so much thought into it a month after release is useless and will get you nowhere. Just wait to see how the patch stories play out because people loved EWs story until the patches and itll likely be the opposite here
Ive barely started the MSQ and i am so far so NOT interested i cant really bring myself to continue.. I dont know where the story is going, but i just do not want to go there with WL at center stage, i dont like her, dont support her. Its just painfull :S
I’m glad most of the community feels this way. Coping is not the way, this expansion had no reason to be bad (its not even decent tier). Don’t bring the it’s just the start of a new saga excuse, this game has MANY characters and LARGE history to pull from to dish out a good story.
I enjoyed Dawntrail. It was different.
I know that people need a safe place to express their "negative" (in the sense they didn't like) opinions, but I feel that people are echoing each other, that also happens with positive opinion (toxic positivity).
It's like it became a trend to not like Dawntrail MSQ. People started off to no like Wuk Lamat, not like MSQ, and now I feel that even people that could have liked the MSQ, or even liked it, are getting influenced by people that just want to hate.
My opinion on the MSQ itself is that it felt really FFXIV like, really I felt like a perfect addition to the rest because it felt the same as before, long, overpower friendship, boring gameplay wise when not in instance, dragged moment, obvious and oblivious character. But I loved it like the rest, because it felt like home !
What I expect from all this "MSQ hate" (not really hating but ofc social media will overreact and it's what gonna feels from people) is that finally SquareEnix will stop trying to suffocate FFXIV and allocate more resources to the dev team because they need it to be free to express their passion, love and ideas for the game. YoshiP interview about not wanted to change the formula of instance shows a good management of resources, but it shows also that they don't have enough money to stray a bit from the formula.
