They probably can't go into specifics because that can lead to other security issues but its time Yoshi-P enforces his own rules. If it wasn't this mod, there would be controversy over another other mod doing something inappropriate or being used to cheat (not to mention that there's already mods to see people's characters nude)
The community has proven that they aren't responsible enough to have mods. And like the children they are, they need to have their toys taken away.
they complete inability of ff14 to hire competent people is disgusting at this point
Jmulls I was just looking for you, did you see the 2.0 – DT Dialogue analysis? xD
Krile told Wuk Thank you xD
they will continue to take a firm stance against something that they will ignore it's awesome 😀

Just what the hell has happened to the FFXIV team between Endwalker and Dawntrail?
So, even if they are working on something behind the scenes, we know right now that the reason this tool exists is due to an exploitation in the new blacklist changes.
Why not IMMEDIATELY reverse this change and THEN work on a final solution behind the scenes? I can't understand why the insist on letting it run rampant when we all know where the exploitation came from while they "Look into it"
The announcement should have been; "Here is what. Here is why. Don't worry they can't get your vital information. Here is our immediate action, and here are some things we might pursue, such as legal action."
Cider Spider broke it down and to the point in less then 2 mins on his video lol.
Playerscope's root code was released out in the internet wilds. ANYONE CAN make this.
We're now in a state where a combination of low interest in the game, massive PC sector growth and rampant, highly advanced mod usage has created an impossible situation for SE.
They almost certainly cannot, from a business perspective, actually go after mods – the Mare discord alone has 250K people, and even if not all currenlty subbed, losing mods might make that many people permanently leave. There are probably half a million, if not more users of plugins in various states, a significant number of whom visually mod, and are attached to their visuals. Kill that for them and you probably kill the last thing they're really interested in without huge improvements. Now go look at SE's financials and say that's a risk they can afford.
SE have also consistently demonstrated that they take the lowest effort steps. So they may never actually fix the blacklist feature. The plugin makes it simple to do but the security fault is completely with SE. So the only real solution is to fix the blacklist.
Are you tired of bureaucratic replies to issues? I know I am. I think they will get this issue resolved properly sometime before the release of fallout 5.
SE: Pwease don't use mods for the most pwofitable game in our company's history it makes us vewy vewy sad.
Also SE: Sends C&D letters for making a mod to a 30 years old Super NES game that only gen-Xers and millennials give a shit about.
If SE was serious about no mods they would send a cease and desist to Dalamud and XIVLauncher, take them off of Github and update the client bi-weekly. This would kill casual modding very quickly and raise the maintenance cost of professional hack vendors. The fact they're not even doing that tells me they don't really want to get rid of mods.
I did want to hear more, at least like "we are looking at fixing the issue that could allow tools to do this"
but I worry more because this wasn't a lodestone post… it was a forum post…
It really feels like there’s no winning in this situation from bother the players perspective of the fact we absolutely deserve better and the devs trying to combat the plug-in. The onus of responding sooner is absolutely on the devs, but it really does take just one bad apple to ruin it for everyone. To anyone feeling outraged that a PR response is seemingly all that’s being said after weeks of worrying, you’re more than justified in feeling like it’s being treated as an afterthought. This issue may not be a concern of mine, but no one should have to suffer the anxiety of being stalked, harassed, or having data compromised. I can only hope that there is a more comprehensive solution being worked on without sharing much that’d give it away, but that remains to be seen. While XIV isn’t the first game to have to handle this kind of situation, it still shouldn’t happen in the first place. Stay safe everyone.
The FF community is so toxic now, looking at these comments and on other videos, WTF happened. We have had bad expacs before (Stormblood), surely that can't be all of it.
If the devs of the plugin are in the US there's no legal action they could really take. Mods aren't illegal in the US. They could maybe sue them, but from what I understand the data is stored locally. Squeenix literally sends that data to your client themselves. That's like mailing you a letter and then suing you for opening it.
All this BS is happening because the games content release schedule is horrendous. When people are bored they’re gonna get into trouble it’s human nature. This company makes so much money on this game. We don’t get any more content ever and the content release schedule is slower and slower and slower every expansion.
This did more damage than just "just fix the blacklist" could fix.
If someone was getting stalked and the blacklist even gets newly and completely fixed to not be abused….. The stalkers have all of their preys alts names… The prey gonna get name changes? Stalkers friend/blacklist wiped?
The prey would have to rename/remake their characters to make the stalkers info outdated once the blacklist is fixed
I think this is a problem that doesn’t concern SE. Think about it, no matter what they do , there is always a risk of somebody just smart enough to sneak in to get data with a tool right? The only thing the team can do is make a anti cheat tool themselves and keep everyone in check. I am ok with it, but you?
The only thing I've ever used mods for was viera hats. I stopped using it a while ago because having to repatch it every time an update happened was annoying.
The devs have told players they are "working on it" since before I started playing the game and yet they haven't even been making new gear work.
If SE would just re-invest the money they make from ff14 back into the game (rather than directing most of it to other projects) the demand for mods would drop massively.
Fix your game, or let players do it for you. If you choose the latter it's on you to ensure modders cannot access certain player data for privacy reasons.
in short; hes sayin,
we dont give a shit, mod what u want, we dont care, just dont use third party plugins if you get hacked its not our fault we warned you. basically lol
He's only making a statement because people are freaking out about it.
Your account ID has no personal identifiable information. They can't find out your address, your credit card number, your phone number. They can just get a list of your alts and retainers.
If people harass you, just blacklist and report them. If they switch to an alt to harass you, guess what they're still blacklisted. If you switch to an alt, they're still blacklisted.
There's a lot of people making statements like they're intimately familiar with how the game's code works. I'm willing to bet that they cannot have the blacklist functionality (as it currently stands) entirely clientside. With the server having to reference everything single players blacklist in every single area every time someone else enters the area, I can imagine that it can be far too resource heavy on the server. It's much smoother to have the client hide player models and chat based on account numbers from their blacklist.
If we're going to change that system to be 100% serverside to prevent harassment from Playerscope, then they need to hide all combat data from the client so that people don't use ACT or FFLOGS to prevent harassment. But no one will agree to that because that's one of the "good" third party tools.
If this plug-in bothers you so much, just go opt-out like the author allows you to. It works the same for FFLOGS and you're fine with that.
No matter what SE do to improve security, humanity WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY!! There’s nothing ANYONE can do to fix that UNLESS SE SPIES ON YOU! No one wants that so ppl are stuck with this. There’s only 2 options. SE implements an anti-cheat that monitors what you do on your PC to negate any 3rd party too or leave it as it is and have the community blame on their inability to fix the problem which they can’t because humans.
What would be a third party tool? is it just stuff like DPS meter?
I only use a mod to hide Warrior's Aura effect, I don't want to get banned over that lol
10 years in and SE and YoshiP still refuse to dedicate any team to QoL or bug fixing, as typical for japanese business, they refuse to admit wrong. They will keep doign the bare minimum and do'nt accept that critics can be used to improve the game.
The problem with those tools is that there's nothing stopping someone creating one quietly, not sharing it, and then using it for years. You can't just go after the known versions of the tool. You need to close the information loophole in the first place.
From the country that has women's only train carriages, the director wants to rely on the honour system. Right…
