  1. They really need to quit buffing all the classes to the one that does the most damage. It is really destroying any semblance of a challenge. This has been an issue for years. Should’ve just nerfed picto. The next raid tier will probably suffer the same fate.

  2. 16:58 My team is beating it with almost 2 and a half mins to spare. PIC VPR RPR BRD. Yeah, the 7.05 changes didn't make this big of a change, not even close. This tier is also faster with the lack of a door boss, those 7.5 min fights that make up the final 2 encounters. I hope we get a spike in difficulty in 7.2 and 7.4 for savages. Looking forward to FRU though.

  3. They could put the twins on the fate of never returning, be rather content. But touching Y’shtola even knowing the aether withdraw from post ARR, no touch. The twins sacrificing their aether for her though, very acceptable

  4. Their “never nerf only buff” mentality has seriously backfired over time. That’s the main reason I don’t really play tanks or healers anymore is because if you play them remotely competently there’s zero challenge

  5. That comment about character death did not inspire confidence. Because yeah, at some point, you HAVE to remind people that there are stakes. I'm trying to remember the last time someone major actually died. Heavensward? Even Endwalker, as good as it was, was a complete copout at the end and at this point I've long since stopped worrying about anything happening to any characters on screen.

  6. I think the introduction of the Trust system in 5.0 kinda guaranteed that the core Scions would NEVER die since we'd need them to fill in our dungeon rosters. But, they did spice that up in 6.0 and 7.0 by having characters like Zero, Varshahn, and Wuk Lamat filling in spots as needed during the story version of the dungeons, allowing them to temporarily bench the core Scions for periods of time. Alisaie and Alphinaud hanging out in Garlemald during most of 6.X, for example.

I don't think they'll ever kill any of the core Scions, but I could see one or more of them getting the Lyse treatment where their story kinda ends and they set out on their own path, only occasionally reappearing. We already get a bit of that in 7.0 with Y'shtola and G'raha not showing up until the second half of the story.

I just hope they don't introduce characters only to abruptly kill them off not even a whole patch later (staring at Moenbryda and Ysayle) cuz that's just cheap. I was worried they'd pull that with Zero in the Endwalker patch quests but fortunately she's still going strong.

  7. So tired of people acting like the game didn't explicitly tell us the Scions were still around in Ultima Thule and that we had the power to bring them back any time. It's not a fakeout if the game goes out of its way to hang a lampshade on it.

  8. Listen… cross DC travel would be a disaster, mostly for JP players. NA players would not behave themselves. They're a lot less disciplined in general in duties and they would never be compelled to use autotranslate in a non-meme fashion. I could see them opening the NA-EU-OC servers to each other, but JP is not happening.

Also if people think the Scions are too safe from death now, imagine if SE gives the players what they want and makes them romanceable. None of them will ever have a chance of dying again.

  9. The discourse about these raids being to easy is going to greatly harm the scene in the future, just like the people companing normal was too hard. You can't balance these raids according to what ultimate players find challenging or by what the bottom of the bottom find manageable.

The same discussions were going around in ARR regarding the final coil and look what happened.

  10. Wait.. that last question in the interview — what can possibly be the reason that the number of aetherytes from which you can select the world visit option, slows down the transfer? In none of the obvious ways that world visit could have been implemented, should that even be a factor. So what kind of code are we talking about here?

  11. Y'shtola's "candle" burning out is a localization error. In the original Japanese, Matoya warns her to be careful because relying too much on her aerthersight will leave her weakened. Nothing about her dying from using it.

  12. Pictomancer's 7.0 values were part of the balance for the tier, yes, but he also admits they underestimated how well Picto would perform – in other words, they underestimated how much damage players would be doing even before the buffs. The patch buffs just amplified the problem, but it was always going to end up easier than they intended.

They really do need to be less afraid to actually nerf things.

  13. The thing that irritates me about people insisting characters need to die is they think it some how adds drama or drive and it's like… Not really… Not if it's arbitrary. Not if it's forced to happen because people expect and want death. That's a pretty trite and uninteresting thing if it's done for shock value, and if it's expected to happen because all the other edgy stories are doing it. A lot of the people insisting on killing characters use the argument "BUT THEIR STORY ARC IS COMPLETE!!!" My response to that is… OK… When one of your friends completes a major mile stone, do you just kill them because you think nothing else is going to happen with them of importance? If that's the case… you're a truly awful person. Just because 1 story arc is resolved doesn't mean that character should die… No one is ever finished growing, and often new events or circumstances can force a person to have to grow in a new way.

Plus… The biggest reason you know the Scions are armored in Plot is the Trust system. People act like Thancred should have died and I point to the fact that… He was the only available tank. Maybe Alphinaud can DPS and Alisae can heal… But no one else in the team during ShB could reasonably be a tank. Just to keep a balance for the Avatar Trusts, they're not killing anyone in the main team. I 100% agree with Haps on the EW stuff being cheap because you know they're coming back, but I don't consider that Death. Even Meteion implied they weren't dead, just transformed. And you knew for the dungeon at the end of Ultima Thule, you'd need the Trusts back by the point. But after all the work to implement Trusts, they're not gonna break the balance by killing off tanks and healers. If they kill Thancred, then G'raha Tia is all you have left for tanking a trial. Estienien won't fit that well as a tank full time on that front.

  14. You con go without having a single important character ever die again and still have impact filled stories. If you think the only way for a story to be impactful is death, your mind is too small.

  15. so a counter counter point of what you stated about job balance. All the classes you went into the tier with were already the highest damaging classes at the beginning of 7.0 so the dps check wasn't accounting for your classes, Which means that the classes all were brought up to the highest dpsing classes in turn making the dps checks way easier then they expected overall. It was expecting for overall the lowest possible to be about 5% less which checks out when you think about how "easy" the tier was to clear
