  1. They wont arrest you from having tattoos but they really do discriminate against them quite a lot. There are lots of places that ban people with tattoos. Public baths are the major one. In Japan tatoos are famously associated with the Yakuza (organized crime).

  2. This is all pretty standard stuff, and this guys channel is really good generally, but for stuff like phones on public transport, as long as you're not an asshole about it, you're not going to get jumped by the yakuza for it or anything. Blowing your nose in public? I think that's kinda low class here in America.

Don't demand that people speak English, don't be overly loud and obnoxious in public, and take your shoes off and you'll be fine.

  3. Something to keep in mind is that this video is a product of its time. This video was uploaded before Covid and before some YouTube idiots when there and harassed people, so Japanese perception of foreigners are worst than 5 years ago

  4. The lack of garbage cans won’t affect you as much if you eat and stand still. There will be trash cans by the store or the attendant will take your trash if you ask. It’s still kind of weird given the amount of vending machines there are around.

  5. The reason why there aren't garbage bins in Tokyo was probably because after a certain thing happened back in 1995 where a group put homemade chemical bombs in the subway garbage bin and killed over a dozen people, they had to remove them to prevent that from happening again. So that's why bins are so rare in Japan in general.

  6. there are no public trash cans ANYMORE because in 1995 there was a series of terrorist bombings that hid the bomb in public trash cans, henceforth they got rid of it. However it also mesh well with their social etiquette of taking care your own shit and don't cause or leave problems for others.

  7. Xeno should listen to me. I have 20 years of experience watching anime.

the only rule here is if you see a truck. Think about whether you wanted to be reincarnated to another world.

  8. @Xenosys Vex Live in Japan myself. Many public baths will turn you away if you don't cover up your tatoos. If you have any interest in doing that maybe look into buying a tatoo cover. No idea how feasible that is for your tatoos though.

  9. just hope xeno do not get arrested by the police. he will not like it. he looks extremely suspicious in general. japan will always arrest foreign first. xeno should wear final fantasy merchandise when in japan. or he should make up a name tag, he is attending final fantasy 2024 fan fest. hope arthurff14 take him to the good places. usually when people cross on a red crosswalk, they are usually hit by the vehicle and die.

  11. one more thing, if you smoke, Don't walk and smoke either. Certain streets its rude to smoke on the main street even if standing still. Its more socially accepted if you go into an alleyway and smoke or smoke inside designated smoking areas within restaurants.
