  2. I honestly think this one comes down to voice direction. The person doing her ENG voice was fantastic at playing the character for the entirety of the runtime, and then…this happened. "I should be struggling under the weight of a massive robot hand, but I sound like I'm taking a leisurely autumn stroll". It makes me wonder if they had, like…a substitute voice director in the booth that day, or there was some kind of last-minute re-recording before launch.

  4. In Japanese, there's nothing about her VA that indicates that she's from Tuliyollal, an isolated part of the world with a separate culture. Wuk Lamat sounds too generic and could easily be conflated with any regular Eorzean, which reflects a weakness in the world building through acting and expression, there's simply too much of a discrepancy between how she sounds and where she's from.

In English, an effort has been made to make Wuk Lamat sound like she's from a different part of the world to Eorzea, which is a much stronger approach from a world building and narrative perspective. However, the VA sounds more like she's doing a disrespectful impersonation of a foreign accent and because the execution is so bad, it reflects very poorly on the character as a result of a bad casting or bad approach.

Wuk Lamat is the first character from the new region we were introduced to and I think the actresses have largely failed to convey that in the approach to the style of VA they have gone for.

  5. I actually enjoy the English VA a lot more; the scene itself is a slap in the face, this was the one moment for the WoL to shine and Wuk comes out of nowhere to steal the moment again. However, the EN scene is so goofy and weird that it is actually hilarious and makes me less pissed off as a result.

  6. Man the EN voice directors dropped the ball hardcore. Its like the VA's weren't told what was going on for their lines. If you check out any of their other works they can really get tons of emotion and volume, but Wuk Lamat sounds like she isn't exerting herself at all. Wtf was the director doing?

  7. Honestly there’s nothing wrong with Wuk Lamat’s EN actress’ performance but whoever was in charge of localising this scene seems to have a lot of trouble matching dialogue with lip flaps

  8. I always thought the English VA was just okay, but assumed I was bias because I just really didn't like Wuk Lamat. But after watching this, we got robbed man. Craaaazy the difference in emotion and excitement between these two voice actors

  9. This scene is the worst offender for Wuk Lamat's VA. Sena just doesn't have the range. After having seen her past work, she is still very much an amateur, and it didn't help that her spanish accent felt very forced and unnatural. How she landed a lead role such as this is beyond me, and it's even more confusing how a take like this made it past the final review. This sounded like a cold reading. The voice directing is definitely not blameless. Overall, they really fumbled the ball on Wuk Lamat's voice acting , which is a shame because I enjoy her character. Sena should have either taken some training, or casting should have gone with a different candidate entirely.

  10. Just completed the trial with the Japanese VA and wanted to see why they were so many complaints about the English VA. Now I get the complaints, this is just way too bad how can someone approve this for release?

  11. Jesus Christ I am so glad after ARR I switched to Japanese and never switched back. Some of the EN voices were bad but this is literally terrorism. No wonder people didn't like Lamat. I loved her, but if I heard this voice the entire 60 hours during Dawntrail, I'd hate her too. This is beyond bad.

  12. Honestly this is nothing new for the EN voice casting. They always make these weird choices where if you think about them they sorta make sense but sideways.
Like Yotsuyu, she smokes alot so she should have the creaky voice of a 40-year-old chain smoker.
Feo Ul is an ungendered being so they should talk like a drag performer.
Emet-Selch is nobility so he should have a nasal speaking register and sound snooty.
Wuk Lamat uses masculine pronouns and mannerisms so she should be voiced by a man.

  14. As a japanese i always liked EN voices in japanese games which helped me greatly in learning the language. This expansion alone made me change to JP voice for the first time ever, Wuk Lamat's voice over quality is so unprofessional that takes you out of immersion and ruins the little moments of goodness that this expansion had.

  15. This single part ruined the fight for me. This phase just sucked lol.

The actual fight prior to this is actually pretty goddamn good too, the music is great as well but this part was a hard NOPE for me
