  1. I disagree. It is NOT hard to keep track of the story. I know they keep a timeline that they constantly use to keep things strait and I'm pretty sure they have a database to look stuff up. Blizzard has the resources to do this, they just prefer to spend their money on cocaine and hookers…

  2. Also agree that games are a best medium for storytelling as they can enchance your immersion in the world by taking part of the events in them. Probably why WOW wants to keep their story as they knows its potential on players.

  3. I think it helps a lot when you have a bunch of scholars who will actively explain concepts to the player they wouldnt be familiar with, but also theorize when they as characters dont know whats going on. FFXIV is really good about establishing what the characters think going forward, and that lets gaps in knowledge and suprises sit far more comfortably than just not explaining at all.

  4. you probably don't know but the FF writers didn't know where they were taking the main story until shadowbringers. even then important things in endwalker were not finalized until just before the game came out.

in the end ff has a good story because the writers have talent. fyi stormblood before patch quests has some of the worst writing In the game outside of ARR.

  5. Ironically, his Yotsuyu theory is closer to what Zenos is actually doing. He doesn't give a shit about ruling; he's oppressing brutally because he wants a champion to rise up and actually give him a good fight.

  6. My friend finally got me to play FF14 last Fall. I had played WoW 2005 through 2015, then got out of MMOs because I was just 'done' with them. It's that situation of, seen it all and it was just meh at that point for me. Anyways, got into FF14 and it was fine. It was a fine game, if not even a bit trite early on, and some really "don't give a fuck about you," vibes with the Ascians. He kept insisting, "wait for Shadowbringers," even as I really liked HW expansion.

Then I got to Shadowbringers, and holy hell, was that great! For me, I knew I was in for a treat when I got to Kholusia, and between the scenery and the music, it immediately told me that something was very wrong here, and the developers could get that across in a very subtle yet powerful way. All-in-all, I think I like ShBs as a complete product better than EW, but EW had some amazing highs and really strong.

On a side note, man do I feel like the Devs must hate themselves over how they handled Lahabrea, though…

  7. FFXIV is just top tier in story telling. Everything has a reason and a why. People dont dig in to this that much "because it is an mmo" yet you have elden ring, its story is ok at most and what do we have? OMG BEST GAME EVER etc…you get the gist how society works nowadays

    SPOILER Down Bellow !!!

Laugh in Emet-Selch. Emet Commit multiple genocides, but he was so damn well written you can actually empathize with him and his goals and even him got redemptions.

No matter how "evil" someone is, a bad written villain will be bad no matter in which light you show them.

  9. FF14 Devs are on record stating that they are 1-2 years ahead of where the current game is. And i would predict 2-4 years ahead in the story maybe outline or rough draft like. That means they have time to be detail oriented and double check and do some homework on their own material. Its quite amazing and i personally enjoy.
