Interesting. I just started ffxiv too and your video popped up in my recommended so imma sub* and follow along. I did play WoW too though. Started BC and stopped at Cata/Pandas then came back for Dragonflight then stopped because I didn’t have any one to play with plus I don’t have a PC anymore 😅
But I can play ffxiv cuz I have a Ps5 and I’ve been having fun as a White Mage.
I just recently re-joined FFXIV and created a new character and finally complete first set of main scenario quest (2.0 A A Realm Reborn, up to LV. 50), because I want the mount from Crossover Event. Complete that main scenario quest unlocks lots of things, including flying mounts, and I almost regret I didn't complete it earlier (I always stuck at Golden Saucer and forget my MSQ once it get unlocks in past).
So my tips for new player: Don't go to Golden Saucer before you complete first set of MSQ, you might totally forget about doing MSQ if you do so. 😉
2:08 I also play ACN as my first job. And it's a little confusing in the first time. The pet skill list just list the skills which your Carbuncle already learned, and those skill can't not be set to hot bar or execute directly. You have a separate skill that instruct your pet to execute those skill in your class skill list. For example, the Radiant Aegis in your class skill list actually tell your Carbuncle to execute hist Radiant Aegis. That's what you want to put to hot bar.
You say you won't use any guide which is cool, but you are playing FFXIV like you are playing WoW, which is kind of kneecapping you. You might not like it but you should at least read the in game pop ups.
Awesome to see new players joining FFXIV! You get your first mount by progressing the MSQ, it's after you do your first three dungeons. MSQ offers the most xp and should be your main priority in FFXIV 🙂
As a former wow player myself, I'll say that the biggest mistake people make is assuming that because the user interface is the same, the game should be played the same way.
Levels don't matter. For anything difficult like that world boss will be scaled downward. There's plenty of end game and former and game challenges at levels 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 to occupy your attention, but when you look back on this time, what you'll remember is the story. It rewards close attention.
This sort of recap video is so good. It looks like you're having a good time! The msq will unlock many systems as you progress, and blue unlock quests will appear as well. Have fun on your adventures, I'll sub for more of these
It is great that another dutch person is playing a FF game because not many dutch doesn't play the game. I'm in server Zodiark and my Character name: Paito Maito
Just a tip: consider leveling crafters up. If you do you can repair your gear up to 199 condition and it allows you to meld you're own gear with materia. Oh, and everything is locked behind the Main Story Quest (MSQ). Sidequests are fairly irrelevant in this game as the MSQ and dungeons will level you up completly.
Hello friends and welcome to Eorzea! I think the biggest change you should be aware of is that your MSQ unlocks pretty much almost everything. Zones, your mount, new dungeons etc. It works kind of like a second levelling bar, so keeping it up to date should unlock most of the features you're missing. FF14 mostly revolves around its story for the beginning, which is also why the separate solo instances ask you to accomplish them without a party, unlike say SWTOR where others can join your instance.
Do your MSQ! You are way over leveling. Unlike WoW, progress is unlocked through the MSQ. Also, go back to Limsa Lomensa and do your class quest. It’s kind of like how old school WoW was where you did quest to unlock parts of your class, otherwise you are going to pass level 30 and still be an arcanist, and you will then get memed on.
edit—- the main story also unlocks dungeons which help with level progression because they reward a lot more exp than logs. the chocobo mount is part of the main story also. once you reach level 30 you can get 2 different quests that allows you to change your arcanist to both summoner (dps) and Scholar (healer) you level them at the same time because both are arcanist based, an all exp gained from either summoner and scholar go into arcanist as opposed to other jobs
Continue with the Main Story, doing side quests (the yellow marker ones) don't really give that much experience compared to the MSQ. Additionally it would be good to click the quest button under your Main Scenario button, those are class and job quests which are needed to unlock new abilities and traits.
In your options show yourself when not in party. That will show your self right above your pet in the upper left. That pet skill is a shield that will display on your party info bar
1) focus on the MSQ – this is essentially a classic FF game before its an MMO so the 90% of the content is tied to or a part of the MSQ.
2) you can ignore sidequests except those that are blue with a plus symbol – the special symbol denotes that it unlocks a feature, dungeon, or class/job while being outside MSQ.
3) you don't need to grab everything to level up – the MSQ alone gives enough XP to get a player to lv90 long before you even reach the endgame so at most you'll want a second job to soak up xp after you cap what you're playing, hell you'll have more than enough even if you switch to something else partway through.
4) feel free to take your time – to quote jesse cox, wow is about the destination, ff14 is about the journey. You are about to embark on a 500 hour epic, voiced by (at leadt after ARR) some of british radio, tv and film's best voice talent. Feel free to take your time, immerse yourself and rnjoy every second of it. What's more, you have a full complete story to enjoy so there isn't even a rush for the next expansion. 5) have fun – you're a sprout, milk it for everything its worth. make mistakes, ask questions, ask for help. Everyone and their mother will likely drop everything to respond… Just take anything a mentor says with a grain of salt.
I see that you are not really keeping up with the msq and you really need to do your job quests so you can unlock more abilities and get your job stone at level 30 which for you will unlock both summoner (magical dps) and Schlar (healer) . Be sure to equip those stones. Read the help and tool tips, so you know what you are capable of 😊 Blue quests with a plus sign unlock dungeons, minion , mounts and flying later on and you are right, the plain yellow quests are good for leveling other job and zone flavor.
It's always nice to see a new sprouts joining FFXIV. After (10) years of playing my main tips are have fun, follow msq, please please read tool tips and don't be afraid to ask for help. I look forward to your next episode.
FFXIV the majority of the features are unlock or become side quests you can inlock when you reach certain parts of the main story questing, your class/job questline should be done often as sometime have skills locked behind them it usually a good idea to be 50% main story/ 50% side story, also each expansion is locked by doing the story first so powering thought leveling as not as benefitable as say Guild Wars 2 or WOW

Yes, that was a world boss. If you hear that music, look for more teammates.

Some of your skills and traits are unlocked via Job Quests.
