WoW Veteran reacts to the most Hilarious FFXIV Class Picking Guide by Larryzaur

This Job Picking Guide is hilarious.

I’m probably becoming a WoW Refugee at this point.

  1. The main difference between the dancer and bard is that dancer is fun. Also, dancer doesn't really have a rotation, as such. It plays almost like a ryhtme game, with its strongest abilities being activated by procs rather than combos.

Also, the dancer is capable of turning another DPSer in the party into an absolute wrecking ball with their closed position buff. Slapping that on a samurai turns them into a boss killer.

It's worth noting that class balance in FF14 is pretty good. The classes all have short comings and advantages, and there's no class that isn't useful. Best bet is just to find a class that appeals to you personally.

  3. Nice video.
Please keep in mind, that all classes are viable in high-end content. It's always about your own ability (and kinda how your party performs). But every party composition is viable :3
For the Healer question you asked 'If we try to balance'. It's usually in 8-man partys, that you will try to have 1 "raw" healer and 1shield healer. So that everything is covered. But it's not mandatory or necessary :3

  4. Each expansion adds ten levels to the level cap, every class gets major/minor adjustments in nerfs, buffs, or in some cases, overhauls. As well as new/upgraded abilities in those new ten levels. Expansions also add in new classes for people to play as. So, the first expansion (and the only one that's part of the free trial) Heavansward added Dark Knight, Machinist, and Astrologian. The second expansion Stormblood added in Samurai and Red Mage, the third Shadowbringer added Gunbreaker and Dancer. And the newest expansion coming out later this year, Endwalker, is adding in a new Melee DPS in Reaper, and a new Healer in Sage.

TLDR; Each expansion adds to the level cap, makes adjustments to the current classes, and adds new classes.

  5. FFXIV fights are heavily choreographed, so it is possible for any caster to learn fights to the point where they have to move very little.
Blackmage, as the most static one, also has the ability to teleport (to any party member or to a seal they placed on the ground somewhere themselves).

Many people describe endgame fights in XIV as "dances" because you have to dance around mechanics all the time, so if mage dps were actually entirely static, they wouldn't be playable. Of course, in the end it comes down to personal taste, but it's incredibly rewarding to manage to keep up your dps despite movement-heavy fights by perfectly learning safespots, attack timings, strategic pre-positioning and so on. Basically, if you need to interrupt your cast to avoid an AoE, you fucked up 😉

  6. The thing about ff bosses is that they are more like a dance so when you learn the fight really well you know where you can stand for longer periods of time

  7. i love FFXIV classes because it requires alot me skill than in wow.

back in wow i got bored of classes easily because i didnt even need to use many braincells at all to use the spells… heck i spent more braincells remembering my spells in wow than actually using them XD

in FFIXV there are alot more things you need to do for it

  8. The special job UI such as meters and symbols were not always in the game. They were added in Heavensward. Prior to that a lot of the mechanics were still there, just shown via buffs on your buff bar rather than the special UI.

  9. They add new abilities every expansion, but they delete some as well. ShB they pretty much completely changed every job. Maybe for the better. I only remember a few classes before ShB.

  10. You probs know already, but in higher content you have 8 party dungeons/trials which have two tanks, two healers and 4 dps. Astro is the safe bet healer where no matter what othe healer you are with, you won’t step on each others toes-buffs. Two scholars is a nightmare (saying this as scholar main) but a scholar with either white mage or Astro is fecking amazing (a white mage buffed critical succor from a scholar basically doubles or even triples the whole parties HP via the shields and it’s amazing) so it’s a slight gamble going into higher content with party finder as a healer. Two white mages is always dope though.

Also, Dancer has more mobility that Bard and their single target buffing is much stronger for that one character but as buffs stack for the most part, having both is never terrible. Plus I much preferred Dancer anyway.

  11. As it's been said in the comments, Dancer's whole shtick is super-buffing a single player. This makes up GREATLY for its low DPS as it can drastically increase the other player's damage. They're essentially a Support DPS. Their buffs are far stronger than Bard's as Bard's buffs are party-wide for the most part, while Dancer's is single target, minus their Shield and Technical Step. Shield Samba is an aoe shield buff that slaps a damage reduction on everyone within a certain radius of the player, so it's typically used for stack mechanics. Technical Step is the same but is a damage buff to the whole party. It's the same boost that Standard Finish applies to the dance partner, which is 5% damage increase.

  12. bard basically buff the entire party the whole time while dancer only buffs their dance partner, but bard buff is less potent. bard rotation is less rng heavy and applies a lot of dots while dancer just has a few damage buffs for the party and dance partner, imo, bard is also more complicated. you always have to have a song up during a fight, so whenever you run out of a song, you have to activate the next song. the party buff from the songs are the same, but the effects on the bard's rotation is different. you also basically always have to have your dots up, bard has a few. dancer just has to make sure the standard step buff is always up on their dance partner and use their party buff when available.

  13. Black Mage is really high risk and it actually takes a while to get the hang of completely. Ironically enough, of the three casters, I'd say it's the most mobile due to triple cast and swift cast (ogcds that let you instantly cast spells. In this case, black mage can insta-cast four spells in succession while moving). Another big thing to get the hang of is slide casting, where you can move for like.. 0.4 seconds before your next cast. It's basically taking advantage of the server ping. Another big thing with Black Mage is your ability to remember a fight and prepare. Since you aren't moving, you have to pre-position a *lot*, and the times you put down your magic circle matter. That's about all I can think about for black mage :'D

  14. Nothing teaches you to perfect slide-casting faster than leveling a black mage.
And yes, Astrologian is a job for people who have ADHD and can't get over their Yugioh addiction. So while you heal and DPS, you also keep drawing and redrawing cards to get all 3 different Seals for the strongest AOE buff, while using them on either melee or ranges players depending on the card type to buff them ideally. Needless to say, it's my favourite class in the game.

  15. You know maybe if like .. 80% of a role is bitching about something or even more. Maybe they .. have .. a .. point? I know I know the idea that complaining should be legitimate is alien to current mentality and we're all encouraged to fall in line like sheep. But there's another way ..
