I have played WoW for 16 years and as of late i just had enough of the game for many reasons, so here we are trying out FF14 . I will most likely play this in more parts so feel free to tell me in the comments what to try out in the game 😀

No offense, man, but your lack of patience will be your undoing. Just relax and stop being so WoW-y. I know you came from there, but this game has entirely different pacing. Just relax and enjoy it for what it is. Trust me, the fights will come.
Probably going to sound a bit like a broken record, but I highly recommend not skipping the quest text. I totally understand the struggle, though, as I came over as a WoW Vet myself back in early BFA. FFXIV is handled much like it's single player counterparts, in which the story is a very huge focus of the game. The ARR story is alright sometimes even a bit of a slog at times, but the later story is some of the best I've experienced both in and out of MMO gaming and the ARR stuff is important in some later big story moments.
Other than that, just take your time and enjoy, this game, and it's community actively encourages that. There is no need to rush to end game and with how they handle level syncing and dungeons, raids, etc you'll never have issues finding groups and enjoying the content as you progress. It's very different from WoW in that older content stays pretty relevant and doesn't die. 🙂
Take your time. The XP is a bit of a firehose, so consider leveling a few classes together if you want to spend your time and fully explore an area.
Read everything. If an NPC moves around, they’ve probably got something new to say.
The original game was slapped together in 18 months, so yes, the later content is better. But it all builds on where you are now.
A question asked today may be answered two expansions later.
I hope you have a great experience in 14 🙂
A tip for you, fellow Swede! When you are in a cutscene, both verbal and non-verbal, if you press space while in cutscenes; you can make them go on automode so you dont have to click it every single time 😀
Just want to say you're still in the mindset that with mmos or any games in general that gameplay is the only aspect that you spend time on or care about. Honestly suggest you drop this playing FFXIV and to be honest with any game. A game is more then just the core gameplay mechanics.
Art, sound, music, narrative, exposition, story, social aspects, crafting, etc are as important as gameplay in some regards and a game needs to be the whole package.
This is why wow is having trouble so much now, its players are so used to only giving a shit about gameplay, now that the gameplay is subpar and stale there's literally nothing else holding you guys to the game.
The FF14 story progresses with you. You go from (ARR) a no name adventurer that's Making a name for himself to the (shadowbringers) savior of Realms. In other words the more you go down the story the more epic it becomes
PS. Because of the rocky start of ff14 the first arc ( ARR) Is not fully voice acted. But the scars from the story stick throughout the next arcs ( almost fully voice acted)
Somehow I find it really fun seeing others struggling with how the quests work with the dialog in this game and being not patient with it 😀
Welcome to Eorzea man! One quality of life suggestion I have is to go to your settings and find control settings. You start on Classic controls but I recommend Legacy. It unlocks your camera and let's you move at full speed in any direction, not just the direction your camera is facing. It also prevents camera snap changes mid combat so you can dodge mechanics and the camera won't snap you right back into them.
Hope you enjoy your time with the game. The free trial really is exceptional with the raw amount of content you get, and if you decide you don't like your appearance/race you don't have to worry too much as you'll get a free fantasia at the end of the main story for the first expansion, fantasia potions let you re-make your character without losing any progress. Be warned that the early level gear looks kinda goofy at times though. It gets a lot better post level 49. Also, I didn't see it mentioned in any other comment, but don't ignore blue quests as those unlock extra content like optional dungeons, raids, and classes. Purple markers are FATES which are open world group content, and for easy exp in the early levels you probably should do your hunting log as you quest since you'll be going to all these areas anyways while doing the main story. Generally you can ignore sidequests as the main story quests give boat loads of experience already.
I know the beginning was slow with all the tutorials and stuff but I personally greatly appreciated them. FFXIV is my first mmo and a lot of this stuff would not have clicked without them easing me into it.
There will be plenty of fighting all kinds of fighting! The games stories are amazing but it does take a bit for them to unravel. Be patient they are so worth it!
WoW player: weeb weeb weeb weeb
WoW refugees: played exclusively cat girls and potatoes.
Regarding your comment "We all know how an MMO works"
All of these things were put in place from the exact opposite development mentality. Yoshida wanted the game to be very accessible to Final Fantasy fans and single player RPG fans who had never touched an MMO before.
Those of us from an MMO background this is second nature, but a total newbie to the genre can get overwhelmed, so all that is there to ease them into how all this works without a full blown tutorial. And you can turn off the help guide popups for us MMO old hats, but it's honestly a really good design.
Later you'll get to the Hall of Novice – worth doing for the gear, but keep in your mind what that would be benefit-wise for an MMO newbie. I've seen a few vids where WoW vets have commented it'd be nice to have that in WoW.
Hope you enjoy the game. As others said, just relax and take it slow. The endgame is not the game here. The journey and the experience is the core of this game and letting yourself get a little lost in the characters and the story and all that the game has to offer outside endgame will really make a defining experience!
May you walk in the light of the crystal, new Warrior of Light! 😉
Ha.. you chose the same haircut my boyfriend did. It's so silly looking, I can't take it serious! lol
I think this is the worst way to play this MMO
Part of the "slowness " perception of FFXIV is the way they want to train you to play a MMORPG. Everyone you meet, every mechanic you see is aimed at someone that's never played a game like this.
It's great watching these new player videos. It's a trip down memory lane. Welcome to FFXIV!
My only advice is to take your time and sightsee or read all the things fully. Your only a fist time player once.
Heh, I had a friend finish ARR and most of Heavensward and didn't know why he was there, what really happened to him. (He skipped everything to get through quick.) He didn't know his own story, and that's what FFXIV is, its YOUR story. It's not like WoW where the story happens around you and your just there. In FFXIV its YOUR adventure. It doesn't happen without you.
Lol this isn't wow its not a rush to endgame, take your time and enjoy and relax. Have fun
FF14 is the first MMORPG whre i do every single Quest and read every line of Text and i get so much back. This Game is an Singleplayer storydriven MMORPG. Take youre Time and you will enjoy it in his full epicness.
welcome to ffxiv 😀 hope you have fun! hopefully, in time the story will grab you so that reading will become fun instead of a chore xD but if it doesn't that's okay too. the story is the main attraction yeah, but there's more to the game than just the story o/
Try and go press Escape button > Character Configuration and on the general tab, try setting your Movement Settings to Legacy Type (default Standard Type). I've had a lot of WoW friends telling me they prefer this one over Standard.
You should read the main quest text as FF14 scenario is really good, much better than warcrap
I can spend hours on the character creation alone
A person selects Lalafell. My instant reaction: MAD BECAUSE SMALL! JEALOUS OF TALL! 😀
Hyur: Hee-yur
Elezen: El-eh-zhen
Miqo'te: Mee-kho-tay
Roegadyn: Roh-gah-din
Au Ra: Oh Rah
Lalafell: Potato
Welcome 😉 few tips:
Think of FFXIV as it’s RPG first then mmo. It’s not wow where you don’t care about what quests says and rush to end game. This game have a lot of content and trust me it’s overwhelming. Soo take it easy and enjoy quests read them ARR (vanilla ffxiv is the worst part of it) it does get better after few levels just be patient, also stick only to main story quests don’t do side quest unless it’s blue quest with + sign on it which usually unlock content.
Also 24 people in queue is nothing trust me I remember days where I was +3000 back in ARR and it was like 1 hour waiting haha
Take it easy and enjoy the ride. FFXIV's content isn't all about the end game so you should relax while playing.
YOU KNOW WHAT WE FFXIV PLAYERS SAY TO WOW VETERANS WHO TRY TO PLAY THIS GAME???
"Welcome to Eorzea"
Just read every not voiced dialog out loud, it will be a bit slower when silent reading, but will help with videos content and story pacing. And you cannot miss something if you reding it out loud 😀
There's a fantastic quote in the song Answers the main title to A Realm Reborn that goes like this:
"Look to those who walked before, to lead those who'll walk after"
I've always loved that phrase, because I was taught so much by 1.0 players when I started playing in 2013 when ARR launched, and as the years have gone by, I've found myself helping new players as I was helped in my time. It feels like an unspoken task I feel every player inherits as they start their adventure.
Watching Quazii and Marty, and this will be my third series of this kind. Each series has been so different, and It just makes me happy to see many people coming to this world that has meant so much in my life and enjoy their own adventure in their own way.
I'm sure the impatience with reading all the introduction conversations was just enthusiasm to actually get started. Engaging with the story is a very big part of this game though, and really helps you to feel a part of the world. I'd recommend not rushing so much and taking the time to enjoy it all. If you only like game mechanics and not story so much then this game will take a long time to grab you, combat is pretty basic for quite a while. It does get pretty awesome though.
Welcome 😀 Sort of hilarious watching you be so impatient with the story, forgetting the RPG in the mmorpg. Hope it'll come more naturally for you soon and that you'll enjoy the journey ahead 🙂
Also, pugelist/monk for life!
Oh, there's voice acting, my friend! And though I love Talisen Jaffe(Thancred) and Sam Reigel(Alphinaud), the A Relm Reborn voice acting ain't that great, but it's not bad either. The new voice actors for Heavensward and up fit the characters better and sound amazing
Y'know, this is exactly me when I started playing the game.
You should treat this game, especially before you hit level cap as a single player RPG in an MMO world.
There is no need to rush to get to max level and the story is the most fleshed out part of the game
Stop and smell the roses, the more you experience the world and characters the more you will appreciate the overall game, FF14 is truly a lot larger than the sum of it's parts, there is an ungodly amount of seemingly minor "fluff" in the early game that gets massively turned on its head down the line and the way characters, music, location are consistently expanded upon is actually mindblowing, after most main quest progress even minor NPC's get updated lines of dialogue.
Every part of this game(except PVP) is massively polished to almost perfection
Based on your level of impatience so far just starting the game, I have serious doubts about your journey into the game. It’s like a go go get going off to a race attitude in getting started vs let me see if I can enjoy this new adventure and see where it takes me. That may all change. But as of this first video, the impatience factor seems very high which is also a carryover from WoW. FF14 is dialogue heavy as it’s a story based game. So if your impatient with dialogue your journey will be very short if you cannot chill and play vs wanting to go full speed.
I think once you get further into the game…maybe even beyond ARR, the expansions have waaaaay more voice acting and it is wonderful since I am near blind and reading the text makes my brain tired LOL Glad you're giving the game a go 🙂
Welcome to ffxiv. I hope you enjoy yourself!
“I want to experience the game.”
He said as he skipped through the main part of the game experience. 😛
I'm so confused by the idea that someone could want LESS character creation options…because you can (and should) play everything on a single character, the look you pick is gonna stick with you throughout your ENTIRE time with the game.
Even if I spend 10 hours in a character creator, if I play this character for the next decade or two, that's time well-spent 😂
You played WoW for 17 years so far. Imagine if you had to stick with one look for 17 years, that look better be to your taste, right? 😉
Miqo'te for the furries… meanwhile WoW has the Tauren, Vulpera, Pandarian, Dranei, and Worgen. I guess its all a matter of personal perspective though. I'm still going Bunny Boy in 6.0 tho.
Lol it's so painful to watch you click through the dialogue so fast, your missing gems
I can't be bothered to watch your adhd. Good luck to you, I doubt you'll enjoy FFXIV if you can't manage to pay attention to the story.
Welcome to Eorzia.
Skipping reading the quests can bite you later and leave you with no idea what your supposed to do when you get to a destination.
