  1. While you can turn down other effects, you can‘t turn down the LB effects.

And you too will learn about the might of Verwipe (Red Mage‘s LB3)!

And you can‘t fall off of ledges. Even if the animation displaces your character, you will always turn back to your starting position. For the Monk: yes, he will actually stand in the air if that happens. 🙈

  2. 7:35 it actually depends on the scenario. Melee is the goto for single target damage, but the moment there's a second target, ranged and caster LB become more beneficial (this is even more relevant in dungeons because a caster LB on a trash pack will always be better than melee LB on a boss). However, healer LB is used the most during progression because a party-wide res can keep the pull going – occasionally tank LB can be used for this as well to force a pull to keep going through a very heavy raidwide. Additionally, some fights will require the use of specific LBs for mechanics, the most common example being requiring tank LB3 in order to survive unavoidable damage.

bonus fun fact: before LBs were differentiated with the release of heavensward, bard had healer lb due to the class being an actual support role instead of fully dps at the time

  3. Trust me, tanking in this game is so much more inviting, until this game I never even thought id be a tank main. started with Gunbreaker and I just snowballed to the rest of the tank classes from there.

(that being said, Dark Knight should not be your first tank class as thank one is a bit….unique in how it plays, it is very much not your typical tank class.)

  4. Imagine if WoW used the limit break system, ie a big ultimate move per class that can only be used from a partywide resource. In FF, it would be as simple as "x uses the lb because their class does the most damage" or "healer, we need a mass rez now" but in WoW there wouldn't be enough salt in the ocean to compare to the meter wars over who uses the LB to pad their numbers.

  5. Tank is the easiest job in the game, trust me, ESPECIALLY if you're not doing endgame raids. This is because tank are so beefy that you can make mistakes after mistakes and still do fine, whereas other roles can get one shotted if they fail mechanics even once. Healers are especially harsh, cuz a dead healer can be a wipe.

  6. Paladin, White Mage, Black Mage, and Monk were the original LB3 for every job of the same role, before each job got their own unique animation, so theirs tend to not be as flashy since they were developed earlier. And yes, it was really wierd watching a Dragoon throw away their spears to do a magic punch.

The exception is Black Mage, cuz Meteor is meant to be super flashy, they actually had to tone it down cuz it was too flashy.

  7. Typically, the older the job, the less flashy the LB3.

So, Pal, Warrior, White Mage, Scholar, Summoner, Lancer, and all the other jobs you can choose to start out as.

Ninja was introduced in the ARR patches

    DRK, MCH and AST Heavensward

SAM and RDM in Stormblood (Sam being one of the ones that is less flashy while being "newer")

    DNC and GNB in Shadowbringers

    Sage and Reaper in Endwalker

Now there is a good chance that A LOT of people do not know this, but LB3 use to not be job specific but role specific.
Paladin's current LB3 was the Tank LB3, same with White Mage and Black Mage being the Healer and Caster LB3 respectively.
I do not remember what the LB3 for melee was. Did not play any of those back then.

Stormblood I think is when they made LB3 job specific?

Forgive me if I am off on any of this. It has been years since I have seen this stuff

  8. I'm very sad to say that I mained Red Mage from level 50 to 90 and yet have never had the opportunity to blind folks with an LB3. There are like no fights where caster LB3 is preferable to melee 🙁

  9. As you can probably tell, some classes need massive LB3 overhauls to be in-line with the others. Specifically:
    – Paladin
    – Scholar
    – White Mage
    – Summoner
    – Samurai
    – Ninja

  10. So it used to be in ARR that all Jobs of a certain role had the exact same LB3 animations – and Bard, being the only Ranged Physical DPS and being mostly a support DPS, had the Healer Limit Breaks instead of a damage dealing one.

The Tanks shared what is now Paladin's LB3, the Healers (and Bard) shared White Mage's, the Melee DPS shared Monk's, and the Magic/Caster DPS shared Black Mage's. It's why those 4 animations probably feel a bit more dated or "unimpressive" visually to the other unique Job ones.

  11. 1:04 — You can – but not Limit Break 3 😎

The area this is filmed in is a normal dungeon from StormBlood. Its in "exlorer mode", which means no mobs or bosses, you just go there alone or with friends for pretty screenshots. You can place a dummy for battle effects and you have access to all limit breaks whenever you like.

5:55 — I think WHM is underwhelming because its an older job and they didnt went overboard with them that much…

7:06 — Nah, as a BLM you just summon a meteor (not Dalamut) down to earth to bury your enemies. No big deal XD

7:27 — LB3s can only be used in 8man content (and Porta Decumana when you get a LB3 granted by Haydaelyn). Sometimes the boss makes a "end it all"-move, then you use tank LB3 – its a requirement. Sometimes the party wipes, then you use healer LB3 – this is a "we f***ed up, save us, healer!"-moment, not so much a requirement gameplaywise (except in some Ultimates to cheese a mechanic). DPS LB3 is usually reserved for melees: theirs is single target and does more dmg, whereas ranged dd's and magic dps have multi-target LB3s, which does less dmg. Which is pretty darn infuriating, if you think about it. The only time you use a ranged/magic LB1 or 2 is in dungeon mob pulls – in Ultimates, Savage or Extremes, you never see their AOE LB3. Except in Alliance Raids, where strikt dmg numbers dont matter, and even then melees can get salty for "stealing" their LB3 (which is why I keep doing that ^.^ )

13:59 — They dont fall of because they dont leave the spot from where they start: its just an animation. Also, you cant use LB3 on a boss on a ledge because if he was, you usually cant target him, ego no LB3 to begin with. Also, you never miss an LB – UNLESS you're in the middle of charging up and the boss disengages – it happens. I think melees, needing a target, get interrupted unless they are too far in, than it goes off regardless. Ranged and magic LBs are screwed: they are in animation lock and cant interrupt themselves.
