  1. I am gonna comment on which is better. It is obviously FF14, simply because I didn't give a shit about Anduin. Whereas I cared about Estinien and wanted to see him come out alright, I would have put a bullet in Anduin and would have called it a good day. In that entire WoW cinematic I cared for 3 people: Varian, who hasn't been completely ruined by the shitty writing team, Uther, who barely got any screen time, as he should have been the one to give his last words to his student, that he failed, and lastly Arthas himself, who didn't even get a dignified end, but had to listen to that twisted wannabe Sylvanas.

Not a one, not one single person that were alive evoked any desire for me to see them survive. They could have killed off every single one and I would not have cared one iota. Because each and every single one of them have been turned into insufferable caricatures of themselves. At least Garrosh had the dignity to tell Thrall to suck a big one and that he had NOTHING to apologize for before deleting himself out of this piece of shit game.

  2. Let's be real here, would people still remember this cutscene months down the road? That is the important question to ask.
People still remember what happened at Heavensward, I don't even know what happened in Shadowlands and this scene is out of context for me

  3. asmon is still on hardcore copium, however, I don't think WoW copied XIV in the cinematics case(heard they did copy from a movie or some shit like that, which wouldnt be the first time), however, just comparing how the "power of friendship" trope is played out in both cases show a significant difference, whereas in XIV it is shown as plot device, WoW's seems to be one of fanservice(which I wouldnt be surprised given the state of the game). It also doesn't help that Heavensward great story backs it up whereas Shadowlands indefensible's plot can't backup shit, so I people's bias towards XIV's cinematic is totally comprehensible.
Graphic-wise, we are comparing a post-visual effects/edited in-game models cinematic VS a vanilla unfiltered cutscene, so its understandable that WoW would win that one.
Sound-wise, I will not lie, I am not a fan of hollywood-esque trash and I would be glad if that den of degenerates died out, so of course I hate the sound direction choice in WoW which is less about ambience and more about generic "le epic hans zimmer track" that seems taken straight out of any garbage made by hollywood which once again I hate all the way to my deepest being. Heavensward of course, uses it to support the "mood"

  4. 11:05 – this was definitely my biggest gripe with it. It is sheer hypocrisy to hold Arthas accountable for what he did when the same isn't done to Sylvanas. The fact that Uther of all people doesn't admonish Sylvanas for her selfish, petty, hypocrite, misplaced-revenge-fueled trash talking during the final moments of Arthas's existence is completely disconnected from the wisdom he holds and the close relationship he had with Arthas. He would have been overcome with relief, happiness and sorrow learning that Arthas's corruption wasn't due to any negligence on his part or because Arthas was any kind of evil, but instead happened because of the Jailer just like Sylvanas.
And Sylvanas, who now knows what it feels like to be under the yoke of the Jailer, should be the last person in the world who can justify their hatred of Arthas. She would double down on her hatred for the Jailer. Everything is his fault. Yet she continues to shit on Arthas.

This was nothing short of a character assassination.

  5. I think that 14's cinematics are more personable and mean more to the player. While WoWs are usually just the rule of cool. They don't normally include players on major plot issues. Your just the gun the npcs use between cutscenes.

Worst part of the cinematic is after Sylvanus starts speaking. I could care less about her story compared to the fact Jaina and Uther are there. Imagine one last goodbye from Jaina. One last apology from Uther for failing his student and friend. A proper end to one of the best video game villains.

Why didn't we the player find Varian or Saurfang in the afterlife to save Anduin? Why does this feel like major plot points of 4 patches were stuffed 2 1/2? What happened to the Drust stuff from Ardenweild? Whats up with the missing portal in Oribos? I wish I could see all they cut because that folder much be quite big.

  6. I never played WoW, the only Warcraft I have played is Warcraft 3.

You are telling me that wisp which evaporated like a fart in the wind is Arthas?!?!? The face of Warcraft 3 and the early parts of WoW, ended like a fart in the wind?!?!?

    F*** off Activision-Blizzard.

  7. 1. FF14 – No cringe dialogue to make Ysayle and Haurchefant feel like they're important. We know who they are
    2. FF14 – No cringe monologue by the worst written character to try and trick the player into thinking this was planned since WC3
    3. FF14 – You actually understand what removing the eyes is for, what the fuck does splitting Shalamayne have anything to do with anything

  8. it looks badass because they took two strong characters in the franchise and just put them there with out any context, just for exploit emotions, the wow nostalgia player and it worked for asmongold i mean, he has an strong attachment with WoW. But clearly lately wow is "taking alot of inspiration" from FFXIV every FFXIV player that played WoW at some point can reconigze that. i Just magine wow can become a clone of FFXIV lol the irony, and their playerbase will never know.

  9. While I would love to see more pre-rendered cutscenes in FFXIV (the Coils of Bahamut scene with Louisoix was so incredible), if the cost means my character is left out like he always was in WoW, then no thank you. I like actually being part of the story and the important stuff. Not some dude who sits in a corner and pretends he's not there when all the good stuff happens.

Plus, 2016 in-game FFXIV cutscene made me bawl like a baby. 2022 pre-rendered WoW cutscene just makes me go "Why are they making it all about Sylvanas again and celebrating her being a frickin' hypocrite?"

Though I've always found it odd that so many WoW players would rather their character didn't actually exist the game world or was nothing more than a peon, while the NPCs get all the glory. Guess they just like being used, abused and tossed away. Explains why they still play the game.

  10. I don't know how anyone can even say the WoW one was good at all, when they absolutely shit on Varian by saying that Saurfang is just as important to Anduin as his own fucking father, but hey. Can't steal the cutscene from XIV properly without having two characters.

  11. The big difference is the build up to it. haurchefant and ysayle were relevant throughout the expansion, so when they show up at the end there is an emotional investment. The wow one does looks cool, but varian and saurfang showing up there was a complete A$$ pull that made the entire “plan to save anduin” completely irrelevant, and even worse, our presence is irrelevant.

  12. Yeah wow’s looked better in terms of smoothness and graphics, but in all other aspects than that ffxiv blows it out the water. Whoever made this set wow up for failure 🤣🤣 and these scenes will probably look a lot better with the upcoming graphical update

  13. 7:25 I actually agree, it is a great moment with the music and tension. Unfortunately It kinda has nothing to hold it up before or after that moment
In terms of production value the FF one isn't as glamorous, but in context it is an extremely powerful resolution to the expansion.

  14. Having Varyan and Sarufang pop up sure it's cool but it's the equivalent of the member berries from South Park. Cheap fan service that makes you clap because you know it, just makes you question why didn't they appear before because everything is so disjointed. Arthas getting shit on by Sylvi just makes the whole thing worst imo.

  15. After seeing that cinematic comparison, I reaffirm my allegiance to wow. Just looking at the faces of the characters in that FF shit makes you want to throw up and without generating a fucking feeling.

  16. HEY illidan is a 10k+ years old basically immortal demon hunter who consumed many basically immortal demons, including guldan's power (twice), tho i dont remember if the second time was before or after the cutscene, also has a lot of power that was given to him straight from sargeras

  17. everyone: oOOoOH FF14 TRASH GRAPHICS, bruh, its not a movie cutscene like wow, its an in-game cutscene, and looks better than the actual ingame wow graphics, get clapped xd.

  18. Basically WoW is just Michael Bay where all it matters is that it looks good, but when you put in the context of the story… It's awful

Whereas ff14 has more nuance and requires an understanding of the context to truly appreciate, god help you if you try to do that to WoW rn

  19. I just realized.

If people come in AT Shadowlands, and they know nothing about the previous stories, they won't know who Saurfang and Varian even are. This would mean NOTHING to them, and it would make the scene even more confusing. At least with Heavensward, you spent time with Ysale and Haurchefant, so it's impactful.
