WoW = FFXIV (A Brief History of Blizzard's Plagiarism)

One MMO has been copying another’s homework… 1 similarity is a coincidence… 8 is a series of choices.

P.S. I do truly hope that World of Warcraft can turn it around, especially after the announcement of the Microsoft / Xbox acquisition. I spent 16 years there and would like to feel good about playing it again, but in good conscience I can’t support Activision Blizzard until they create a better work culture, start treating their employees with respect, and start listening to their players.

  1. The entire expansion "Shadowlands" is a ripoff of the 2001 Anarchy Online expansion called…… Shadowlands.

Even the thematics of the lightborne and dark are fully represented in parallels between the two games.

  2. I like to see it as that blizzard is getting inspiration from FFXIV is a compliment to yoshi-p and the team. Cus in the end, Yoshi-p said that when he made ffxiv he wanted a Final Fantasy version of WoW because he liked WoW and his inspiration for making FFXIV is WoW. Thats what i like to think of anyway. I can understand why people are annoyed by it tho

  3. WoW- Vanilla (2004): Remember Warcraft 3?
WoW- Shadowlands (2022): Remember Warcraft 3?

    FFXIV 1.0 (2010): Remember FFXI?
    FFXIV ARR(2013): Remember 1.0?
    FFXIV EW(2021): Remember 5.0?

Funny how WoW keeps holding onto the WC3 story while XIV chose to let go of the past and tell a new tale that blew everyone away.

  4. There are entire dungeons that I played in FFXIV and was like hmmm, I have played this dungeon before and had to look up which one came out first, and in all cases, WoW had released the dungeon first. Those were ENTIRE dungeons that seemed lifted straight from WoW, so these little design 'plagiarisms' are cute.

  5. Final chapter of Warcraft 3 saga, well, that warrants that the story makes sense from start to finish and due to the gazillion retcons they have thrown in, no one bothers trying to trace the story any more. It makes absolute zero sense, has no coherence and is so poorly flushed out that the joke isn't even funny.

The WoW writing team can't even make a coherent story within the current expansion, yet alone make a "saga" that apparently started in Warcraft 3. Heck since Warcraft 3 and consolidation of Warcraft story by Metzen, the big bad one has been Sargeras and the Burning Legion. Zoval, Shadowlands and what-not was pulled from the deepest parts of the writer team's behinds and stitched into the narrative at the beginning of Legion. The tools for the job was plaster, tape and some staples they found in a drawer one night to shape out something that looked flashy and cool.
