  1. This is a truly awesome channel concept! Gear is an interesting aspect of FF14. Before watching this I soloed Lord of the Whorl Hard with a lvl 70 BLM, a job at which I'm very rusty and frankly not stellar. This was no easy thing because BLM is very squishy even with i-lvl 370-390 gear, and is also very immobile. Given that, the choice of gear should mostly be based on attack power and speed, right? I mean, no matter how good your gear on some jobs, your defense level and thus HP is very meh. (BTW, this alt character potion jumped to 70 but is doing the MSQ from jump street, and she wears the jump gear.) I find changing gear frequently to be a bit of a PITA due to having to swap out materia, check my retainers for wherever I left gear from the other job that shares gear, etc. So I sometimes stay in gear longer than I should even when I'm pretty sure I have something better.

  2. Also inmortent to note you do not have to focus on a meta in xiv to clear harder content, it helps sure but its mostly down to having a good set of friends to raid with while doing the best you can. Meta in ffxiv is more for players who want to parse and brag about their dps.

  3. There was a point in my mmo life where wow gearing system was easy and for casuals (played some shity hard to gear mmos).
Now after 15y, too old for that and wow system is something too much for me 😅
So currently prefer FFXIV in the way gear progression works

  4. Retrieving materias from gear can suck with their RNG chance, but materia melding at current max level can be done without gil. Everyone (even at causal level) can guarentee a specific materia they wish to get. One way is doing the current expansion beast tribe dailies (Pixies for Shadowbringers) when the patch finally releases them and unlocking via required quests (I guess it can be the equivalent to world quests). When unlocked you can do 3 quests a day for earning tokens 3 per day and then can spend it for a specific materia (and non materia stuff slowly added as well as your reputation with them increases). FFXIV only did this recently change to add materias for beast tribes with Shadowbringers and hopefully they will keep that in for future expansion beast tribe quests.

There is also killing A rank (respawns every few hours) and S rank hunt marks (special spawn requirements and long respawn timer) for the current expansion (comes out as the expansion is released. Similar effort to mini world boss and world boss level difficulty for WoW) for current expansion materias. However it requires abit more effort for people to reliably get a good amount for time investment because it requires doing enough credit at the mob to get the full rewards which is hunt tokens (40 for A ranks & 100 for S ranks) and chance on one of two materia grade tokens (grade 7 or 8 for Shadowbringers) to drop (S rank guarentees both) which both can be used for specific materias. Players can also get credit from the ones in other servers as well.

There is also poetics tomestones you can use for grade 6 specific (mini version of grade 8s) materias for anyone that wants to use those as well for 800 per purchase.

All are viable (2nd option is not as casual in my opinion and is mainly run by community conductors for hunt trains via discord and linkshells at specific times which can vary) and gil spent is only for teleport fees!

  5. The ads are here my dude, so your money isn't far away either. Congrats! The Ethys video sounds awesome. And yes there are some characters whose mere existence is a huge spoiler so you kinda ruined a few shockers for yourself. Well I guess if you still enjoy the game it's not that big of a deal.
Watching you makes me kinda sad I never did the video I always wanted to. A plan of mine for years have been to make a sort of dictionary for WoW players who want to get into FFXIV and vica versa. Like it can be scary to get into a new MMO that released seven years ago and built up on the legacy stories that began ten years ago. But it is much less scary if you have familiar things. Like Lalafel are just goblins. Ul'dah is basically a larger Gadgetzan. The Au Ra are the Draenei and Ishgard is Gilneas. Ala Mhigans are the orcs with Ilberd being Garrosh and Raubahn being Thrall. The Ascians are the Twilight Hammer.

  6. Tbh i've quit trying to get BiS and playing to top log in both when i've got my hands on TESO, i feel like TESO solution to gearing is way better in the fact it's an horizontal gear system, means every piece you've got is 160 and would stick to 160 when you've reached 160 CP, and it feel nice cause it mean content doesn't just get swallowed in a blackhole each patch and patch actually "Add" beside of "replacing old content" and the another cool part is you can leave the game 1 year, come back and your gear would still good to use even if there some rebalance etc. Great video keep the good job 🙂 Just subbed

  7. Keeping it vague to avoid spoilers.

There was a cinematic I saw that showed a character get poisoned but I wasn't paying attention so I thought it was a different character. Then playing through the expansion I kept waiting like "is this where they die? They're not really setting it up right. Did I miss it? Am I misremembering something!?" So that was fun lol.

  8. Hey man, love your content on both channels and I know you gotta make the silver for yourself (I'm a content creator myself), but maybe theres way too much ADS. In 10min I got 4 video ads and an overlay ad (and I bet it will keep coming in the next half). I don't care that much, but some people do.

  9. Haha material melding is even easier when you learn in most cases for most classes its Crit > DH > Det. Sometimes you need a little spell/skill speed to make your rotations work in a certain window if you play particular classes.
