Recently I started up again in FF14, and in this video, I’ll share some of my thoughts on; how FF14 compares to Retail World of Warcraft, the significant and immediate ways that they differ (from a new player perspective), and what facets of Final Fantasy I enjoy more than retail WoW – and Why.

Welcome to FFXIV! I love watching new player videos to a game I enjoy.
I hope you enjoy it! Just take your time man! Allot of ff players rushed through the story and regret it
Since you seem to enjoy lore and worldbuilding then, i recommend checking out most of the sidecontent in lvl caps (50, 60, 70). The dungeons and raids, arr has a lot of dungeons, so no need to do all of them, and the crystal tower raids are mandatory so you will have to do that. But the coils of bahamut has really great and actually pretty relevant story, but you will have to find some lvl80 people to help you do it, since its considered Savage content 🙁 a shame really, but i'm sure you can find some in the party finder. From Heavensward its better and the 8man raids have a normal version. Basically what i'm saying is try to do some of the side combat content before hitting the next expansion haha
I started 4 weeks ago friends from WoW who decided WoW just did not make the cut anymore joined a week ago and were all having a Blast, We all started with the FREE trail but after 3 or 4 days all decided just to buy, this game just too good not to 🙂
The Community is absolutely awesome and super super friendly, the game it self has way too many good things to mention, coming from years of playing WoW endgame this game has been a real eye opener for us all, we all have at least 10 OMG this is awesome moment's every day.
I'm 56 been playing MMORPG's since they started on Dial up internet over 20 year's ago FFXIV is for me personally the best most new player friendly game without a doubt I've started Playing, and I've already got 2 level 80 Job's I can't put the game down.
The fact that you have to buy books separate to the game to experience the full coherent story is what's making Retail WoW feel almost entirely gameplay driven. I don't care about most of the characters anymore, and I feel lost in terms of the narrative. I could get over the immersion, due to my liking of the competitive content like M+ and raiding though.
With FFXIV, you experience most if not all the story IN THE GAME ITSELF, adding to the immersion and actually building attachment. Though WoW combat is still hard to beat; I think it's come to a point where the full package > combat.
I have too many reasons to list, but I finally moved away from FFXIV. A lot of the positives the game had I got tired of and I need a change from it.
Regarding combat, a lot of players coming into FF14 understandably look at the GCD and think how the hell is this any fun, it's so slow. One habit I always suggest to new players is to start getting into the concept of weaving abilities that are Off-GCD. A lot of class specific gimmicks are OGCD and when you start doing your job rotations later it'll feel more natural. Interestingly, endgame content is built around rotations and even your burst cycles.
Enjoy your stay!
FF11 is better than both and its not even close.
The origin of your character is never really explained, just that you are new to whichever starter city you are heading to; though after some playing it's clear that any Au Ra, Viera, or Hrothgar are new to Eorzea since none of them are native races to that part of the world; in fact, canonically you won't meet your first Au Ra NPC until the ARR content patches and this is actually mentioned, which can lead to a bit of cognitive dissonance when you've been grouping with Au Ra often due to Heavensward introducing them as a player race. Or even playing as one!
Oh, and you might want to take some time to wander the cities. Each one has some NPCs talking amongst themselves. For example, Limsa has a poor guy getting mugged on one of the lower ramps around the inn, and my favorite is the all-women's pirate bar were some "unlucky" guy is probably gonna die from too much snoo-snoo (it's the Hume male next to the Miqo'te pirate at the bar). Little things like that help bring these cities to life.
Just moved over from WoW. One tiny thing that I noticed was the character facial animations can give a huge range of emotions. You or the NPCs can form quite subtle distinctions, annoyed vs angry, puzzled vs surprised. Just a small thing but makes it seem a lot more immersive.
The combat is definitely slower but the combos can get crazy complex. I played a Fire Mage in WoW and you HAD to follow the right combos but playing a Black Mage eventually becomes much, much more complicated.
Yes you should!
Man I really wanna move but I'm a pvp player and this games doesn't look good at all for for this gameplay
I'll put this pretty simply:
FFXIV is a social MMO
WoW is a competitive MMO
You should play WoW if any of these are true(ideally more than one or most):
You have a strong competitive focus.
You like ranked play in pve or pvp.
PVP is a prime focus of your play.
Story is not your primary focus.
You want to 'play your own way' and progress at your own pace doing whatever content you like most.
You like having separate alts.
You should play FFXIV if the following are true:
You want a guided narrative experience for the entire game.
You want a game focused on social content.
You are a long-time fan of JRPGs and appreciate Japanese style storytelling and tropes.
You have the good taste to appreciate cat-girls (okay this one's much more subjective than the others ;))
You want to build a single character and have their story be important and constant, regardless of which class you wish to play at any given moment.
I want to be as vague as possible without spoiling some things.
There are a few key things to remember as you're going through. This game at least for dungeons has at random hard dungeons that are re-imagining of previous dungeons you've done. These start around after the end of 2.0, there's also some side dungeons as you go through that will be needed just to have your whole roulette open. So always keep an eye out for those.
2.0-3.0 there's going to be a visual jump as of 3.0 PS3 was being phased out for PS4. Endwalker will see the same visual jump come 5.5 to 6.0.
There used to be racial talents and stat points but was eliminated in 4.0. It was advantageous for certain races to play certain classes due to racial bonuses (often +3 to a preferred stat) and stacking the attributes onto that stat (or for tanks dumping them into strength for more agro and dps).
XIV trimmed down 30% of the main story quest and increased experience. Its not unheard of a player hitting 75ish before getting into 5.0. There are some points of ARR that felt disjointed before the squish a little less now. Even to this day there's a series of quests in the 30's that well all I can say is pay attention and its something you touched upon while doing this video.
I downloaded the game on the trial, created a character and logged in. I can ignore the catgirls and babies…I mean, lalafells like I ingored gnomes in WoW for 13 years. Then, BOOM! I haven't even picked up my first quest yet and I get hit with moogles. WTAF? The very presence of catgirls meant I wasn't playing a serious game but these things looked like something that belongs in a game for 8-year olds. Already uninstalled.
Respecting your time goes all the way to end game and for people who like grindy stuff there is side content that is pure glamour and mount stuff. The FF14 end game community are all hanging out in a zone added purely for legendary weapons glamours lol
i cant stand ff14 story and combat
Remember FFXIV is a JRPG First, MMO Second.
Yeah if your thing is lore and story, you definitely found yourself on the right game!
ff14 combat sucks. the spells and ui have to much shine. and the last thing, the abilities animations sucks. if it wasn't for this things, the game will be good
