I've been in the hospital since June, and I can't wait to get back to Eorzea.
Not to raid–to play Bard concerts at Gold Saucer.😅
In the almost 11 years playing this game, I have definitely had many instances or skipping through content to get the reward, only to find that once I had it I was no longer having as much fun. The real fun was in the process it took to get there, the social aspect of getting together with people to reach this shared goal. For almost the whole first 3 expansions I constantly used to skip cutscenes to progress faster and catch up with where I would see people at, but the only reason some of them were even that far was because they had a lifestyle that allowed them to play for hours on end. But my mind wouldn't see it that way and instead treated it as FOMO, and me moving too slow so I would try to skip what I could to catch up. Patch days would be overwhelming because there was so much stuff to do and I felt like I would fall behind If I didn't do everything as quickly as possible. If I could go back and re-experience the game at a calmer pace I would do it in a heartbeat. Now I'm so burnt out haha. 😅
I take breaks regularly – playing other games, not playing games,…. Lately I have mostly been playing the game for the social aspects and gposing.
Fun in an MMO is very much depending on your own point of view. You cannot expect the game to just deliver fun, that would not be sustainable under any circumstances. Besides FFXIV is very generous with content we get. If you look at other MMOs you can be glad if you get 1 or 2 minor content patches between expansions in most of them.
My friend says he wants to do everything in the game but can't decide on what to do. But I know he doesn't have the attention span to grind to get to the good part or loot he wants
The fucking eye zoom 😂😂😂😂
Here is my problem with XIV and especially EW at the moment, im ultimate raider and i like combat content, i like grindy stuff that is rewarding to do but also when its not too repetitive.
in short in my opinion, EW is the the expansion where devs got lazy, content is boring and short lived, stories are awful and even music has been bland (not necessarily bad but bland), EW has had the most bugs out of any expansion as far as i know, stuff that should NEVER have been on the game, Bug in TOP where sometimes tank could just get 1-shot causing a wipe, the housing lottery being absolutely broken on release and stuff like that, content feels rushed, not tested properly and devs did not learn from the mistakes.
if we think of the mistakes, criterions, the problems with criterion was that it had no weekly lockout, it had absolutely terrible rewards so the contents lifecycle was REALLY short, they learned this on the Aloalo island release kinda? but not really, now you get weapon upgrade material from doing the savage version, but the thing is, the weapon is as good as the savage tier one, and the problem is that you need savage gear to do the savage criterion so you already have a weapon that is as good as the reward, unless you care for the glamour that the criterion weapon provides, this reward changed nothing, especially when we are getting the last relic step on the same major patch that will be BiS for all the jobs.
then the extremes, i have farmed almost all the extreme mounts now, it was a painful grind but it was the only thing really to do in EW, the extremes are just bad, they recycle way too many mechs and they are highly uninteresting ones, there was few pretty good ones like hydaelyn and barbariccia, but there was also some really awful ones like zodiark and endsinger.
island sanctuaries the content that was hyped for months before EW even released, turned out to be a facebook game, go there, spend 5 mins of your time, go out, repeat next week, absolutely horrible "content" that never evolved to anything.
then the relics, the absolute biggest problem with EW was the relics for me, old relics were a way to spend time between patches, they were grindy but fun, they kept you invested in the game, but i have done all of the EW relics for all the jobs and i fucking hate them, sorry for the language but they are HORRIBLE, i will never run another roulette after im done with the last step, i really hope this god awful tome grind never returns, i think SE doesnt understand that relics are a good way to keep people subscribed and invested in the game, keep the community alive, this boring single player tome grind isnt it.
and i get it, people might think "why are you still playing then if the game sucks?" well you could say its a mix of addiction and boredom, there has not been any good games for me atleast to come out this year at all, BG3 was alright, but it didnt keep me that invested, i always return to XIV, the thing is that i know the game can be so much better, but devs keep making these same mistakes and seems like they dont understand what we want, i really really REALLY hope, the reason why EW was such a bad expansion was because the upcoming graphics update and XVI development caused the game to go downhill with no proper attention given to it.
one good thing i can say about EW, is that its amazing expansion… for new players, its horrible expansion for veterans and people who reached endgame early in the expansions life cycle, but the changes made to old dungeons, the duty support for ARR, HW and SB are a really good changes for new people, but the problem is that EW lacked actual new content cuz they wanted to make the old expansions better, which is not a good idea, they prioritized the new players above the veterans and existing players which is bad.
so, i have done almost all the content in EW, i have done all the relics, all the extremes, both ultimates, all savage raids, all the criterion dungeons and island sanctuary, what there is for me to do anymore? not much im afraid, sure its only 6 months for DT to come out, but i still dont have anything else to play and i do like the game if it can get better in 7.0, but i made a promise to myself, if the devs cannot get their shit together and actually make the game better, i will quit the game in 7.0, its not worth paying over 15€ a month for a game that i actively hate and rant about everyday.
the video was good and i dont doubt people dont feel the same as you do, but at the same time, if quitting the game was an actual option for me, i would probably take it, but the fact is that i spent most of my days home, i study a bit and then play games the rest of the day, gaming industry is such a shit show currently so i just cannot get excited about anything.
sorry for the long post, but EW is just… its just not a good expansion at all, i dont approve all the pointless negativity given to it and comparing it to HW and SB fully, but i do know the game could have been better and a lot of people are making videos and posts saying that EW is a fine or even good expansion, is just not true at all, people should have standards and actually keep them, i refuse to accept a messy and untested expansion like EW ever again.
Thanks for the vid Aitherea Swift. I've said before in your previous vids that I agree that people rushing is what ruins their fun. I also agree that unsubbing is a powerful tool that too many don't use (see exb. A WoW). But (and I think this was true in ShB as well, (tho a lot of people continue to forgive it and make excuses to justify it) but there has been a lot of rerun events and recycled content combined with longer periods between expansions. I've started the game during the StB era and aside from Stormblood itself, didn't rush anything, plus I waited 9 months after EW launch to start it, I haven't subbed since March but managed to keep up only with free login campaigns. I'm missing a bit of trust to max Loloprits (and I missed days), and I haven't done the last raid and last little bit of msq, oh and the latest variant dungeon. Otherwise I've done everything without having subbed for most of the year. And I don't use guides for the Variant dungeons. So I can understand people's complaints. But I agree with you, I don't see any of this changing, unless we have a WoW situation.
god i would love to unsub until next update but they keep releasing seasonal events with limited time items and it gives me way too much fomo
Omg do eureka! At least for the dyeable job gear in the first zone!
Thankfully after 2 years of playing the game I’m still not sick of it I did what the devs suggested and dealt with burn out by playing other stuff the biggest burn out was when I decided to raid, doing pf from p9 to 12 was exhausting 5months later and I still haven’t cleared p12s part2 but I know I will when I really feel like it, after grinding out all combat classes recently I hit crafting hard and already have 3 of them to 90 but now I wanted to redo msq for the 4th time via new game plus 😂, tho at the same time I’m playing swtor to finally see the mmo that is apparently as good as ff in terms of story. So ye I think a healthy does of playing ff on the side or mixing what you actually do in the game when you’re « bored » of it or burn out of it is the way to go to not hate it lol
I think people also take the patch cycle for granted a lot, especially people new to mmo's. This game has the best and most consistent patch cycle I've seen in an mmo with it being every four months (previously roughly 3 1/2 months). I've been playing mmo's since the late 90s and a lot of the time, there either was no patch cycle and you waited for the next expansion for major content or it was a long wait. Most notorious that people might be familiar with is wow's history of patch cycles where you would wait 5-6+ months and sometimes nearing or over a full year before you had anything new. I think the record is still patch 5.4 which released September 11, 2013 and then we got absolutely nothing until the next expansion released November 13, 2014. That's 13 months, at least 12 months of nothing if you already did the last raid and timeless isle stuff.
I will say this until the death of 14, the length of the patch cycles is not the issue, it's the longevity of the content added in the patches.
Taylor Swift opening is great! 😀
I don't think any game is meant to keep your attention for so long. FF14 though isn't just a game it's a home, being stuck in your house for too long can make you feel anxious and bored in a similar way, all your comforts are there but yet it makes the act of going out playing games trying something new almost like a vacation. After a while even on that best vacation you near the end of it you feel a little homesick. So taking breaks is good. That said I know what it's like wanting to B line for that certain thing you want. (finally doing Island "purgatory" sanctuary for that max rank glam)
I will say while taking breaks for me in my 8 years of playing has been natural and has left me with many things other players did right away.. I do think next expansion the Relic weapons should be grindy again. Not for my sake, but for people who want something to do in the game that is that midcore bridge. It's fine for me to take breaks but it sucks when everyone is taking a break except you.
P.S. Nice singing Aitherea 💙😊
So, I haven't finished any of the variants, because, I'm sure you've seen the "social death" in FFXIV videos, it's very much true, I don't have any people to really play with or do stuff with. Hearing that you went and did the 3rd one with a friend in VC is what MMO's are all about. Most people in the FC I'm in are very cliquey, so if you aren't in tat clique, I'm just there for the "buffs".
I agree skipping/ rushing does flush content time. But remember how much time is left before Dawntrial 💀. More similar videos are on the horizon. Just isnt enough sustainability. I just do hunts and my submarines atm.
Lovely video 💟
I just got to SHB and Fantasia’ed to Lalafell,I am pausing MSQ until the Fall Guys event is over. In between doing the event,I am leveling other classes and playing with friends. I do get bored sometimes, but I usually find something to do in a few minutes. I also have stopped playing for 2 months to play other games, and I found I enjoyed FF14 more after my break. Sometimes I just find it enjoyable to sit in the middle of the rain, sit in snow,go swimming, look at the stars, and just afk instead of doing dailies,MSQ,leveling classes,or playing with friends.💟
In my opinion,You should do what You want to do. If you are bored and have “nothing” to do,then you can un-sub for a while then come back to the game later. Don’t pressure the creators of FF14. and in general,Just have fun!💖
Thank you to you who took time out of your day to read my comment.💗💙
I'm not the target audience for this, given that I'm still having a great time with the game while playing it daily. Granted, I play less these days, but that's not because there's nothing to do or because I dislike the game. I'm just playing other games that take up too much of my free time to justify another time-consuming experience (such as Eureka, Bozja, EW extreme/savage content, …). So I mainly limit myself to the part of the daily roulette to level up my alt jobs and do the tribal quests until I'm done with the other game(s) and can go back to playing more FFXIV. Mind you, it's not burnout, FFXIV is still one of my favorite games that I like to come back to once a day and I'm already looking forward to spending more time on all sorts of content later this year or next year.
That said, I completely agree with what you said in the video. One game where burnout happened to me was Genshin Impact. I played the game once a day for the daily rewards when the game had nothing else to offer. At first I had a great time in the game, but later on it was 100% fomo. Didn't get the daily rewards? Too bad, now you have to buy them with real money if you want new characters/weapons. Also, your characters want equipment, that is 100% RNG, so you better grind for that once a day. DO IT! Oh, and you want achievements, of course. Those are RNG as well. Gotta grind, can't be helped. Right? Right.
So I played the game once a day when I no longer had fun. Fast forward a few months. Then I had a rage quit due to hating the content and terrible RNG and didn't touch the game for the next 6 months.
Then I got back into it, caught up to the story, explored a bit, and stopped again. I actually had fun again in a game I hated and never wanted to touch again around the time I quit. It's just much healthier not to force myself to play games I don't enjoy. Now I'm way more casual when it comes to playing Genshin Impact. I will catch up to the story again soon-ish, explore the new region, and then stop when I'm done with the content I actually enjoy.
It's so much better and I can recommend taking it easy, not forcing it, and being a bit more casual about the games you play. Definitely listen to the warning signs. If a game is no longer fun or doesn't give you what you want, take a break.
