Why People Are Disappointed With the New Criterion Dungeons | FFXIV

Hopefully I can make a more positive video after I manage to prog ASS a little more, as I’d love to discuss the new dungeon in terms of how fun it is/is it everything I was hoping for. I honestly do think it’s going to be a fun and challenging experience, and what little I’ve done of it was definitely interesting. Unfortunately, just havent found time to do it much this week so I havent even gotten past the first boss :c

  1. For me, the only real negative is the rewards. Criterion, and especially Savage, need better rewards than what they give.

The idea, itself, is *Chef's Kiss*. I haven't had this much fun with dungeons in years, and I love that they can be done solo, as well. I hope this is the first of many Variant/Criterion dungeons in the years to come (again, hopefully with better rewards for the highest difficulty).

  2. I am very fine with how they do it now. The main rewards are in the ex mode, and anyone can do that with some crafted gear. But we still have a savage version for those who want to use bis gear, but that's by no means the main focus. Rewards for both types of content could be better though

  3. I really enjoy the normal Variant dungeon, as it is more challenging than the normal 4mans and the solo runs are quite fun. I do not think the Higher difficulties offer a worthwile reward though. The Mount you get for getting all paths is vastly better than the throne…

  4. Its a bunny!!? o.O … This'll take some getting used to ^^°

Also, thats not Sherlock Holmes -.- Like… at this point, a real Sherlock Holmes outfit would be an upgrade to what we got lately regarding glams -.-

I think Criterion is for people who really want that challenge, people who wanted this to be a FF14 version of Mythic+ from WoW. Now, I never liked m+ and I certainly never cried out for it… but I know that there are enough people who want that sort of challenge. But if this content is catered to that kind of player, why is there no gear? In ShB we had Bojza and Zadnor were you could get real nice gear to upgrade your alt jobs. Criterion could've been that in EW.

  5. It honestly doesnt matter if you need the gear or not. What matters here is if people think you need the gear. And they do, so they won't recruit someone who didnt get savage gear. Which is bad imo.

  6. Timing for variant/criterion dungeons was always going to be contentious because time to clear savage raids is a function of skill and time commitment. You have a wide range of savage clear times where on one end there are groups that clear week 1 and are fully geared by week 8 (or week 4 if they split clear) and then have nothing to do until ultimate/whatever else comes out, and on the other end you have groups that literally take almost until the next tier drops to clear the current one. You can't please everyone. I personally think x.25/x.45 makes sense as a release window for this kind of thing because it gives a decent amount of time for 8-man savage to shine but isn't stepping on the toes of the Ultimate raid coming out in x.3x/etc.

Criterion savage is new content and we're still feeling out the requirements on it, but I strongly suspect you won't need BiS to clear it. The closer you are the better of course, but crafted is probably the floor like 8-man savage.

I dunno why people are tripping over rewards so hard. The only lasting reward the savage tier gives you is a mount. The gear is completely obsolete when the next tier comes out. High end content in general has always been focused on the challenge first and foremost, and it's funny when people lose sight of that.

  7. I didn't realise there wasn't an average item level for the Savage mode, that's a good catch! I think ilvl 630 is definitely recommended though, the overall damage the dungeon deals is significantly higher then in normal and I think if you had less health and defence then ilvl 630, you'd be in for a bad time. I do think they should of just made it an average ilvl of 620 for Savage and sync down to that too , to make it more accessible, it's a lot easier to find 3 other people to prog Criterion Savage then 7 other people to prog the Savage raids.
I think Savage is a bit like the Ultimate's, it's a kinda do it once thing and be done with it, with the normal mode being the one you spam for the coins.

  8. Have not yet touched criterion myself but here is my opinion about the reviews so far:

the gear requirement: do note that the savage and even normal criterion dungeons were (as far as i know/understood atleast) designed for savage raiders who need something to do between raid tiers / patch cycles, so i don't think its a good point for argument that the gear requirement is too high since its designed for people who have cleared the current savage raid tier and have the gear, could it be better with no gear requirement? maybe, but gear that you get from savage raids has always been pretty worthless, since you can only use that gear for current content AKA 1 latest dungeon, 1 latest extreme and the latest savage tier, since you get synced down for every other dungeon and raid/trial, having BiS and good gear never had that much value since the main benefit of clearing savage and getting that gear is… to clear that same savage faster next time, so i think its good that we get some value for gear for once

the rewards: the rewards are definetly the worst part of these dungeons, SE really has a problem that they don't know what to put into rewards nowadays for content, so they just put few unique items like housing stuff, adventure plate stuff and mounts/minions… and then they just put materia, i don't know why SE thinks so highly of materia, but whenever they have problem thinking reward for content, they just put materia there, same problem with hunt rewards (mainly how you can spend sacks of nuts), the beast tribe rewards etc. etc.

i wouldn't mind having some catch-up gear like level 610 dropping from normal mode and 620 dropping from savage dungeon, the rewards could be so much better if they just put some catch-up gear there or something and time lock it, like maybe you could only clear the savage version 3 times per week or something, since the main people who clear the criterion anyway is savage raiders and people who most probably have better gear already so its good for alts if nothing else but the rewards really needs a step up, NOBODY wants to clear a FUCKING SAVAGE DUNGEON for 1 FUCKING MATERIA, why is materia so precious for SE? when its actually pretty worthless before next patch drops with new gear and stuff

the timing: i agree that the timing of the dungeon dropping wasn't really ideal, the savage raid tier has been a mess since the job balance ATM is really awful and how hard the current tier was and "overtuned final boss" (the boss wasn't really overtuned tho, job balance is just ass) and a lot of statics, including mine, had some really bad drama/burnout since the fights are not really caster friendly and like i said before, job balance

but im still happy that we got this content, going to try the normal mode criterion someday this week with members of my static and it can be a lot of fun, tho im still really sad and angry just how bad the rewards are, SE really needs to learn that we need proper rewards for this kind of stuff, not materia every single time

Also, sorry for the language, just needed to get my point across <3

  9. I really think criterion should have released with 6.3, perhaps even variant. since the odd numbered releases don't have a raid tier, it would have been nicer for those who enjoy the difficult content. Give the time needed for progging the dungeon.

Don't get me wrong, I love the content, but don't feel I can dedicate the time right now to doing much. And since there isn't much of a reward for criterion, I have little reason, aside from enjoyment, to do it.
