  1. LOOONG time MMO player here. I go all the way back to EQ1 in 2000…and played just about everything in between, including WoW for many years.

I'll also say that I AM an "alt person"…and Zepla misses what I think is probably THE biggest reason and method for alts…boxing. i.e. Multiple Accounts. I currently run 12 different paid accounts on my current MMO of choice. People do this to enable them to do content that requires a group/raid. It's as simple as that. Boxing in this way takes me back to the FF 1 – FF 3 days when I was in college! It's a different KIND of gameplay…and it's very compelling to people like me. Honestly, FF14 intentionally doesn't lend itself to making an army of alts because a single character has almost an endless variety of multi-class options.

  2. I really love want to have alts, for trying different races, glams and animations they have . But buying fantasia every time you want to change your character and sometimes names (lalafell-lore wise) is really hostile. At the end i'm standart sub, acc-wide mounts with no alt.

  3. Coming from WoW classic. I started as a stroll down memory lane, but fell in love with playing rogue. I ended up making many alts, and it detracted from my sense of identity in the world.

  4. I was just talking in discord last night about this. The bad thing for me is if I want to play a different race, I can't just make a new character and have the mount and flight abilities and glamours. I wouldn't mind all the rest if I had the ability to mount and access to my glamours.
As it is, if you want to try a new race you have to do all of those things over again.
    I supposed that's why they sell Fantasia….

  5. As a new player, this is actually really disheartening to hear. XIV seems to have a lot more RP going on than most MMORPGs and yet these systems, by being alt-unfriendly, are also RP-unfriendly. πŸ™

  6. I think the game is intentionally alt-unfriendly because they want to discourage the behaviour. I think this is also why they offer a cheaper subscription to those with one character.

  7. I wish they would make it easier to make alternate characters I like playing other races for aesthetics. I just started playing this game is there any issue if you have charters on other world servers? What are the pros and cons if anyone knows? thank you for the help in advance.

  8. As someone that actually likes having alts, I really hate how they're treated in FF14. I do not want to use my tiny catboy monk as a tank, it just doesn't feel right

  9. The only reason I find to personally make an alt is because while Fantasia is something I could do, I'd also be changing the name to match the new look or new 'character' I keep in mind. Be it if I recreate a D&D character or reference my Main on another MMO. So in that regard having an alt makes more sense to me. But I am new to the game so I might get tempered into the new mindset of how I name/design my main character.

  10. I think its alt friendly for me, I did a lvl 80 dragoon all on my own. but i got lazy and level boosted a white mage (big mistake!) so i used an alt account to learn white mage from the ground up.

  11. One of the things that lack of alts creates is a higher sense of character responsibility and reputation. In WoW, if you are a jerk and get a bad rep, you just re-roll, buy a boost or get boosted and you can be back to where you were in a week. If you have 1 character you do everything on, you are beholden to keep a good reputation on that character. Being alt-unfriendly reinforces good community behavior.

  12. All Mogstation mounts should be account wide. Like the Two Seater Marriage Mount. (ceremony chocobo). You paid the money to go thru and experience the quest story etc. But as things may happen, you move to other servers etc, but now something you paid for cannot be accessed on another character does not feel right.
