  1. Not surprised it didn’t make it out of development hell. From what I recall, a few rumours floated around were that the story was going to focus on a young Cid Garlond defecting from Garlemald and his early years in Eorzea. (I’d take animated over live action for that, tbh.)

  2. If the people that did The Witcher series were supposed to do this FFXIV show then I consider it a blessing that the project didn't go through. I think this because The Witcher Season 2 was bad and Season 3 was even worse. Cavill was fighting for the series being loyal to the source material but the showrunners thought they could do a better job than the author of The Witcher himself. And so Cavill said, "Eff it, if it's gonna be like this then I'm out."

That's one common thread you see from all the failed adaptations. The showrunners and/or writers of the adaptation think they're better than the source material itself and they change things because in their minds they're improving on the original. These idiots don't get that the fans of these IPs like them as it is (mostly). And of course the fans will get pissed off when shit gets changed without good reasons. The One Piece live action was a success because the creator had final say with everything and he basically shot down all nonsense changes that people were trying to do. So in the end the series was very loyal to the source material and the praise for it was near-universal.

  3. I wouldve wanted something like an anthology or "Tales of Ba Sing Sei" type show, where the Warrior of Light is a minor or unseen character but everyone's personal struggle is strongly affected by their actions. If WoL shows up its gotta be Meteor tho.

  4. Wait Witcher producers were considered for doing the FFXIV?!
    Thank GOD!!
Those guys really screwed it all up with the Witcher. I'm so over spoiled western producers feeling like they can rewrite other authors' worlds because insert garbage reason. Especially authors from different cultures. Many, including myself, are bored (if not also tired) of western culture and are fascinated by other cultures influence on writing.

  5. I thought a story revolving around Cid would have been good, or maybe about what happened during the five year gap between the Calamity and the beginning of A Realm Reborn as everyone has to deal with the aftermath of Bahamut and Dalamud.
I think Live action One Piece did a pretty good job of adapting anime characters. I loved their portrayal of the Straw Hats as well as Buggy and Kuro and Mihawk
On the other hand I eas disappointed with live action Yuyu Hakusho

  6. they frequently don't even bother to try and match the character's hair colour in live action adaptations… hairstyles I understand because gravity exists but hair colour is just lazy

  7. I disagree with Garrats take that a first season should have ended at the 2.55 mark, especially if it was 10 episodes because there is way too much to cover in that time.

you need to introduce all three city states and thier conflict with the beast tribes, develope the sions, fix and fleshout the introduction of the garlean empire, do the crystal tower raid story, possibly do the coils raid story (though that might be too many side tracks), introduce ishguard and thier conflict, and flesh out the warrior of light themself.

I think it is easy to forget just how long ARR and it's patches were because of how much more memorable the expansions were, but both of the were about as long as an expansion cycle each.

If i had to do a ten episode show i would limit to core ARR heavily abrodge it and end with the exploding praetorium and 'defeating' lahabrea, that way it is a complete story and works as a marketing peice for the game even if it does not get a second season.

Or you could do what Kyle suggested and do a mando inspired remake combining the three quest lines to LvL 30 (the ones tied to a specific starting city) that see the warrior of light meet each of the scions and end with them watching the grand companies give thier speaches from the waking sands via linkshell or something. Then cut to an epilogue scene with the twins in the inn in uldar with Alphie giving his sanctimonious speech about the motivations of the grand companies to Alisaie rather than the WoL only for her to walk out on him and his plan as she does in the game.

  8. I first found out about the show yesterday, it completely surprised me that there was even a Live Action show in the works!
Now, if it was an anime, I'd love to see it!
Give it to a good anime studio, and I feel like they can get 2 seasons out of Each Expansion, maybe a 3rd from the Patch Content. It would have been great!
