Why Destiny 2 & ESO Complement Final Fantasy XIV So Well

There is a large cross over between Destiny players and ESO players seem to complement Final Fantasy XIV very well, why is this the way it is?

  1. I was a huge ESO player. I have all the collectors pack for all the dlcs. One thing I can say fully that ESO does complement but in a beginner friendly way to mmos. ESO is way easier to grasp than 14 in pretty much every way. PVP I think is way more warring in eso than 14. Its 3 faction in full scale war. PVP is its own game in eso.
However, I think 14 is a natural progression from eso. It's like ok, Im worn out of eso, what can I do? Pick up 14. As a eso vet coming to 14 it was like whoa… this is a LOT man but its so cool even with the complexity. ESO as an easy grind experience makes 14 an easier experience to grasp coming in.
Destiny 2 is very seasonal. You guys hit the nail with hammer with every point. Im in my quitting period of destiny myself. I'll pick up some time in the summer. Lol

  2. I’m surprised you guys don’t go hard on Monster hunter, I’d have thought those games are totally up your alley- I think it’s such a perfect pairing with 14

  3. I don't play ESO, I used to play D2 until they went back to being scummy again.

The ONE thing i'd like FFXIV to take from D2 would be exotics. Tie them to relics or end game raids so each and every job would have a passive that effects whatever ability puts an emphasis on that jobs identity?

"Gives an additional charge of apex arrow" for Bard for example.
Which ultimately means you get 2 apex arrows AND 2 blast arrows
because of blast arrow ready. Probably OP but it's just an example.

  4. Brian's comments about people saying they're done with Destiny took me back to the early days of Everquest. When folks said similar things back then the inevitable response from somebody was always, "Aw, I'm sorry, man… Can I have your stuff?"

  5. Destiny 2 plays on FOMO too much. If you don't struggle with that, its a great game. However if you do, the game requires ALL of your time or you will be missing out on stuff.

  6. Destiny 2 has changed since forsaken but they’re still on that formula a little bit of it though. I play a lot of it been playing for 7000 hours

I will say that now even builds have a rotation compared to before when people would use very simple builds.

Destiny’s gameplay changes yearly but gives you variation monthly every 3 months. This kinda in turn falls into place somewhat similar to Final Fantasy just with some differences. I wish that FFXIV had the same model as Destiny in terms of paying yearly for the content or at least adding it to their subscription plans.

The 30th dungeon is the sucky part but in the two higher pricier bundles they do have the duality dungeon included. Unfortunately now they decided to separate the dungeons from all bundles and now they’re being sold separately. This was announced right as Witch Queen came out which is the sad part.

I wonder how they’ll change over time and if they’ll do something like FFXIV’s subscription model base. Instead but beat them by having a yearly subscription for a reasonable price.

Some people are able to switch between both games see similarities and enjoy them others don’t, they’ll just play one over the other a lot more due to their enjoyment or guilty pleasure.

Lately, I started to play ESO again it’s still the same just with them now doing something similar to FFXIV they scaling down everyone including enemies. So far it’s been good playing on the controller on a pc, ignoring the buggy M&K issue I have.

  7. You know….I've tried Destiny so many times because friends/family swear it's great. And bounced off every time. I feel nothing special when I shoot the guns/throw the grenades. Guess that's why it's not a game for me

GW2 has become my FF14 compliment. No subscription + entirely different focus for the game play (exploration, more combat while leveling)

  8. I am playing mostly FF14 but from time to time play ESO as well.
There are things that I believe ESO does much better than FF14 – I felt that questing and open world content in ESO is way more fun to do and sometimes I felt that even in open world I would find fights that would challenge me, while in 14 this is not the case.

By questing I mean not the story itself, but quest design. In FF almost all quests are similar – go to place, stand at place, talk to a person, kill 2-3 monsters (I found only like 1 quest that had challenging combat in open world in it but its mitigated by leveling and gearing), get the item/use the item/give the item, with endwalker – carry the item and walk with NPC.
While on surface ESO doesn't really provide much harder content, but in FF all quests feel very same'y – including MSQ – a lot of talking and story progression. In ESO quests just feel more varied, especially main scenarios for each of the zones that include spying on people, following npcs, going to place to save npc, only to find out that npc doesn't really need your help, distracting inn patrons and stealing item etc. etc. FF just feels more rigid in this case, and while its story is miles over ESO – every quest is way more story driven and characters give way more interesting dialogue and have way more personality, ESO just provides better quest design.
I feel that in many cases it is because unlike ESO, FF focuses itself on accessibility, sometimes to the game's detriment – I rarely travel via open world in FF – there is little to do there, content is not challenging and leveling via killing monsters in the open world is disincentivised – you get barely any EXP from them and it's easier to just fly over enemies.

  9. Coming from both those games, it’s no wonder I love FFXIV. The one thing that made me stop playing D2 was not being able to pick up where I left off. If I took a break, there’s a whole reset on things and it feels like I’m starting all over again with a new system and it sucks after spending so much time grinding to get where I was. That’s not something I enjoy doing. I still play ESO but FFXIV has grabbed my full attention lately.
