  1. Honestly I feel like cc’s implementation in the cash shop is understandable at present. I think it would have made the most sense to add it into creator (savage). But they obviously did not plan for it 4 years ago! It could have been an interesting clear 100 rival wings achievements like the ads mount. But since we’re essentially done with all the patches, I don’t know if they would have the ability to just add an achievement except in a patch update.

I am a little bummed but honestly if I didn’t pay for 2 months of my sub, I can resub in November, get cc before endwalker lands and I wouldn’t be eating up any extra funds.

  2. I think people are mostly indifferent to cash shops unless the game is bad. People think the money used in cash shops go back into the game to further develop it when it’s good. When the game is bad, people view it as just another way for the company to get money from you

  3. They are upset because they're a ton of wow players who are used to /spit-ing on people with store mounts. No one cared about the mogstation until recently. No one cared about clouds bike, no one cared about the whale mounts…red hair, oden's mount, any of the other mounts. BUT THIS ONE…this one is different because the vocal players are different. Blacklist exists for a reason i guess.

  4. Happy 5th! Even when I don't play FFXIV (or whatever game/topic) and have no clue what you guys are talking about, I still enjoy listening while I work. 5 more, lets go!

  5. as long as in game mounts are regularly released equal TO cash shop mounts, unlike wow where cash shop mounts are both unique skeletons, mount specials, and have no reskin options, it's fine. i think some of the prices are ridiculous that these shops charge for cosmetics, and it sucks because some are cool, but it's not the end of the world. equivalent options are fine though, it's just when the coolest stuff ends up in the cash shop then it really starts to be an issue. or in the case of wow, you add the currency to cash option and let boosters ruin arena.

  6. I think the mounts and anything cosmetic in the shop has much less impact on anything in the game than the monetized retainers. That actively stall design innovation around the game's entire storage and market systems and lock them perpetually into a fractured and more actively space limited design, in order to preserve that income source.

A possible cosmetic/mount reward that may be appealing to some fraction of people, showing up in the shop instead of in game, doesn’t really compare to the scale of side effects and incentives the monetized retainers create in the design of entire market/storage systems that every single player uses, whether they ever chose to engage with the shop or not.

I think that is where the real wide reaching monetization side effects actually manifest in game, far and above any limited cases of lost possible in game rewards to the cash shop.

But the truth is most people have already accepted a very high level of monetization, so they will accept a little more. Almost, no one will be talking about this mount in a week. That’s just the reality.

  7. I'd assume that it's more the fact that it's the Cruise Chaser which is an iconic "mount" from Alexander, and would feel far more appropriate dropping from TEA or something related to Alexander. Maybe they only got it together as a mount until after the fact and figured there was never going to be a good place to put it in the game now.

As you've said, am indifferent, but my immediate thought was that it's iconic and feels strange as a store-bought mount relative to previous store-bought mounts.

  8. Ok so what I hear in this conversation is that its ok to have in game features locked away so you have to pay more ? Sorry I disagree I think you are inherently devaluing a product in this case. For example would you love a quest or a primal fight to get the mount or just pay for it ? Seem to me by using that simple question there is no doubt that it is wrong. I don't go to a restaurant and expect to pay more for less same with most physical goods. Now is there anything I can do about it, nope cash is king remember that so if they want to skirt and devalue a product that is entirely their choice I can only voice my opinion. It seems to me like this is more of a thing sense the WOW refugees came over due to the monetization on that side getting more out of hand to the point where it just keeps getting worse and worse. Now I know your counter was adjacent products like T-shirts and books that fine so long as it doesn't enter the product that you are currently producing. If you would like a gaming industry version you can look in many areas to see the fault in defending a company for these practices. Games like WOW Ark survival many other mmos anytime that something is actively set out as a cash only item you segregate the player base. So imo sure make your t-shirt and fan fiction or side story books. So long as its content I am actively playing I will be paying till then I think as I always have that the shop is just a bad idea period (morally however cash doesn't care about that )

  9. I think a little quest would be fun. Maybe a cutscene or two with some cruise chaser lore and a solo scenario{nothing too hard} would of been great with the mount

  10. Ok. So I don't see the issue with this mount specifically. What I see is the age old debate that normally involves microtransactions in games.

Why should I need to buy this? I bought the base game, I pay my monthly sub, why should I need to buy anything else?

    You don't.

But why does this extra content exist to begin with?

Because while YOU might not be willing to buy said mount, other people will. They have. And they will. And as long as Video Games are a business and the Publishers/Developers want more money, this is going to continue to happen.

This debate will continue on until the end of Humanity or the end of Capitalism (or the end of a society where Money has value). There's no problem having that debate, but I feel that the title… doesn't address the issue directly. The title makes it seem as if the specific mount we're talking about is the issue, where it's more of a cog in a money making machine.

  11. You kinda wonder if the release of store mount frequency increases, why they can’t release a dungeon or a trial more often, or add more rewards to existing battle content to keep people subbed (if these people only like battle content). If there’s budget to create store mounts, why isn’t there budget to create any other type of content?

  12. Im fine with cash shops, as long at there is no pay-to-win. I really don't like boosts per say – I've bought a job skip for a friend for ninja (he wanted to get the Garo/Silver Wolf set when it was still available). But I wouldn't buy a story skip – especially in FFXIV. I have bought boosts in other games (WoW, Lotro – dear god, needed that one because of how long that game is, even with VIP). And I've bought numerous emotes, outfits from the cash shop in FFXIV.

To me, only sell mounts that either a) can't be found in game, for whatever reason – event is over, will never come back; b) you just want something fun in the game that you don't want to put in a questline/raid to get. Don't do a re-skin – that's tacky, that's lame.

I do see some people points. Some people look at people with extra money to spend in game as a class/elitism, something the world has too much of. Lots of rich people, tons of poor people, and no real good way of evening the odds to that more people have more money, and its not in the hands of just the rich (hell you can see that IN-GAME with people who have FCs to themselves, own the big houses, with TONS of furniture, and hardly do anything in game other than what is needed to progress in the story – yet have millions, if not a billion gil). Anyways – people get jealous/upset with seeing people spend their own money.

And if you re-skin something that is hard to earn in game, well it can make those that earned it feel like it cheapens their experience earning said mount.

But I think cash shops are good for longevity of a game – puts more money in the developers hands, to make the game better. Even having a subscription doesn't always pay the bills. Need to always expand. Just don't make it pay-to-win, don't make it where it gives a player an advantage over another one. Being able to skip the story or level a job isn't that game breaking – just means those people either may or may not know the boosted class, may not understand the story, hell maybe some mechanics that are taught by DOING the story, but hey, that person buying the boost may just want to get to end game for whatever reason. Or maybe they don't want to go through the entire story to catch up to friends – they just want to play with friends, grouping up, learning that way. But it doesn't really give you an advantage per say – just gets you to what you want to do faster, that's all.

  13. Nobody would give a single care in the world about WoW's cash shop or free (w/ 6 month sub mounts) if the game wasn't crap and all the in-game items weren't re-colors of old mounts from 8-10 years ago.

  14. Cash shop is never a good thing, I understand that's how they can make more money to support the game and I am ok with it even in wow, what I am totally against is the wow token, made wow P2W like or not this is what ruins the game anyways not that I care anymore
