  1. I wrote most of this before I watched the video.

In late A Realm Reborn and Heavensward, Alphinaud is absolutely the Main Character. I agree.

Then when Stormblood comes out, the Main Character switches over to this new girl, Lyse, and her journey of discovery. I only realized that they were doing this on literally the very last quest, and it made the rest of the story fall in to place, and in retrospect it made me love Stormblood all the better.

4.4 is where it starts to change once again, when the Scions leave the picture one by one, leaving one character as the face of the Scions (Aside from Tataru, who we all know is the scariest Scion): the Warrior of Light.

We launch in to Shadowbringers, and the Warrior of Light finally claims the role of the Main Character. This is part of what makes that expansion so good.

  2. A good chunk of the story wouldn't change much if Alphinaud was the WoL instead of our random ass – especially the end of ARR and HW – the biggest change would be SB, which Alphi spends most of politicking in Eorzea, but it could just be one of those interludes where we play as a different character (in this case, it'd be Alisaie and we'd likely see her developing a relationship with Lyse akin to how Alphi does with Estinien, instead of being enamoured with the WoL all the time).

ShB would change relatively little, since Alphinaud is away from the group when his soul gets yoinked in the current story anyway, and he does very little in Kholusia before we arrive and the whole reason we get into Eulmore anyway is his artistic skills. The remainder has him by our side for most of the time anyway and he's essentially the one leading the charge at the end anyway.

EW also has him by our side 90% of the time, though the Sharlayan section would be somewhat different due to Alphi's pre-existing connections, but much of the rest would be the same. It would also make the final parting in Utima Thule a lot sadder, as he'd be having to say goodbye to this person he's been with literally since before they were born and they could make it really heartwrenching.

Realisitically though, he'd probably just pull his family's wealth and influence to make himself appointed general of the united companies in ARR if he had our battle prowess lol.
