Who Sets The Pace Of A Dungeon? | FFXIV Topics w/ Final

As someone with a Max level Tank in FFXIV i’ve seen it all practically. Something that has been more prevalent of late is this trend of people arguing in game about who decides what mobs are pulled and when. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. Been playing for 4months now. First MMO ever. I started with Tank my learning curve was so bid. I had DPS pulling mobs and dying and blaming me. When I told them I was brand new. Almost made me quit playing but FC talked me into staying

  2. It very depends on players and their play style, some like to rush in and get it over with. Some just like to take time and learn the mechanics. The pace just have to be adjust base on what the team can handle.

  3. I've mained healer for a long time, and if I have a good tank in my group and I play for example Sage, I will almost never use any heals whatsoever besides my kardia and the kerachole for each pull.
I'm more than not capped on Addersgall stacks.
So I have more than enough for a below average tank.
Keeping aggro is very easy in this game and requires only one aoe and then they are on you.
A dps who runs ahead will almost never get far enough to die on their own before a healer and a tank reaches them and I'd rather have them standing still rather then running towards you and have some mobs manage to escape your meeting aoe and now you have to run back to the healer in the back who's getting attacked. It also just does more damage as the dps can hit more targets if they stand still, or cast at all if they are casters.

I just don't understand the logic I hear from some tanks who assume they have the full right on the pace, as if they are the only person who controls if we live or die. It's some main character syndrome on a game level.
Nowadays if a tank says "I'm the tank, I pull and keep the pace. If you pull then you tank it"

I just respond with "I'm the healer, I heal and mitigate, if I see you use heals or mits then you can do it yourself"

It's a team game. All jobs have lots of utility to keep us alive and to make this dungeon go faster and be more interesting, let's let them use it. Tanks don't have sole right to keep the pace and pull aggro just as healers dont have the sole right to heal and mitigate.
