  1. I'm personally curious, but as somebody who enjoys variety in their combat options when playing DPS and enjoys supportive actions over DPS actions when playing tank or healer (Though support in DPS is nice too), what classes would be best suited?

  3. "Ninjas excel at attacking from behind"

I would actually argue, since EVERY melee DPS has positionals for rear and flank… that this is not something Ninja is especially skilled at.
As a Ninja main, I would argue that we excel at attacking from RANGE because most of our burst phase damage comes from ranged attacks – and then, on top of that, we can always throw daggers for filler. Whereas Reaper and Monk can only suffer in agony, Ninja can handle being out of melee range with only minor disruption to our rotation.

This, combined with Shukuchi and our passive increase to movement speed, BY FAR makes us the most mobile of all the melee DPS.

We are also the one melee DPS that relies heavily on MAGIC damage for our hardest hitting moves, not physical.

  4. Thanks for the video!

If you are okay with constructive criticism, there are 3 things I didn't really like how were presented:
    1. Having only zoomed angles made some visuals not show their true beauty, especially big AoEs like LB3s.
    2. The explanation of each job sounded a bit like just reading off of a script. I know this was most likely the case, but it really made me constantly think about it from the delivery (akin to how many YouTubers do sponsored segments – just quickly cram what is cool/important about the discussed topic and move on).
    3. Somewhat related to point 2, but the moment one job explanation ended, the next immediately began, leaving no time in between and making the transition really jarring. I understand stretching the video unnecessarily is not ideal, but having 5 seconds more after/before each job won't make it too long, and it will make the engagement experience better.

  6. I started out 2 and a half years ago (not the newest of players, I know) as a Black Mage, because I was coming from World of Warcraft and before I quit I was playing 3 characters: a Windwalker Monk, an Arcane Mage and a Retribution Paladin.
There wasn't a starter job that combined the speediness of WoW's monk and the high damage output of a WoW Mage so I had to pick between FF14's Monk and Black Mage/Summoner as my started jobs, as they resembled what I used to play in WoW. After a bit of consideration I went with Black Mage for the petty reason that I didn't like Summoner's choice of weapon.
And during my time as a little sprout I began looking at job showcasing videos to see what I could main after BLM – because I wasn't really feeling it 1 month into the game – that combined the playstyles of the WoW jobs I played. I was advised to try Red Mage and I really liked the flavor of it. The spells looked cool, the gear looked great, I loved the weapon choice and the flavor of the job and ended up maining it for 1 year and a half.
When the final EW raid tier came out, I was wanting to move away from playing DPS and instead focus on healing and a friend of mine suggested White Mage to me as it felt like a logical healer for me to pick up seeing as I often played RDM like a WHM, always raising, always wanting to help out.
Come Dawntrail, a new raid tier is on the horizon, and I have a few options that I am considering Dark Knight, Bard, Reaper, but I think the most appealing one for me, at the moment is going back to my roots as a WoW Windwalker Monk main and pick up Monk to play. Until now for raiding I've only ever picked pretty easy jobs to play: Red Mage and White Mage, so a more challenging job is a welcomed change. Will have to practice on it a lot because I am NOT a melee player and in WoW I did not raid as a Monk.

  7. One thing to note for new players, you need to keep in mind that most of the cool moves and even core mechanics are locked behind higher level (and higher means 70+) so DO NOT have over expectation early on when you are fighting like with sticks and stone or else you will be very disappointed lol.

  8. I would have added a small disclaimer with AST and DRG that they are being reworked. As a DRG main, that is kinda scary since my partner is a SMN main and he said they lobotomized it. I’m unsure if MNK has a self damage mit but if it does then DRG is the only melee DPS without one. In rare instances when tank dies and DPS gets aggro, those mits are life saving. I’d also add that DRG’s AOE’s unlock later than other melee DPS’s making them kinda meh in 4 man dungeons up until lv 70-72 when they finally get their third AoE. I understand you’re showing the positives, it’s a fantastic class, but 4 man dungeons can be rough at low levels with a ballsy tank lol

Other than my unwarranted input, this is a great video. Wish I would have seen this when I started. My partner said the same exact thing you did about choosing a starting class; go with what you like. Everything is so well-balanced that there isn’t a “superior” class.

Also, BLU is the best class ever to use in roulettes and queuing for other content. They are designed solely for roulettes, MSQ, and anything else involving other classes and are NOT forced to play with only their kind like some feral beast 😀
