Since its launch in 6.2.5 we haven’t heard a whole lot about Criterion dungeons in FFXIV, which raises the question, what happened?
In this video we discuss what was good about them, and improvements moving forward.

Gear rewards should be item level same as savage, But criteorn dungeons should only come out in the X.5 patches, this way it acts as a way to catch up or gear up alt jobs, most people invested into the raiding would have BIS by then anyway.
Personally I don't see why not if the content is as hard as savage it should be given the same reward in my opinion, forcing people to only gear through raiding content or slow tome grinds weekly, isn't really fun
there was a few reasons why criterion dungeon "failed" and it was quite obvious ones.
1. the rewards sucked, there was not that much worthwile from the rewards, SE has the habit of not knowing how to reward players for this kind of content so they usually just put materia there, they thing that materia is this amazing reward that everyone likes or something, the criterion shoudlve had some catch-up gear like ilvl 625 gear or something since it was aimed towards people who had already cleared savage raids.
2. it did not have a lockout cycle, so because it didn't have lockdown, people just farmed it non-stop for few days/weeks to get all the rewards and had no more reason to go in there.
the dungeon was cool idea, but it was executed horribly, the reward was not nearly good enough for the investment you needed to do to clear the dungeon, i don't usually care about the reward in content aslong as i get something worthwile, but clearing this super hard dungeon that was on par in difficulty with the savage raids for 1 materia? yeah, no wonder it died
I haven't check the JP side of things yet, but it does make me wonder if there will be a similar thing to the Eureka and Bozja addicts who never leave both content even though they've finished it long ago (this isn't a just Japanese players thing, this is a joint effort by the JP and EN players).
I think they should add the items that allow you to upgrade accessories into criterion.
To the argument that adding gear will make it feel mandatory.
Do you clear the tier in the first week? No? Then it doesn't matter. You are already behind, getting gear from criterion is just a nice bonus.
Gearing in this game is already incredibly slow so adding more ways to get higher ilvl isn't a bad thing.
Rn if I'm unlucky with loot but really good at the game, it will take me months to gear up one character, which is just ridicoulus.
Give me more ways to get gear!
