  1. I think my personal pet peeve lies in the lack of job quests. Summoner in all other FFs I have played is pretty much narrative driven and 14 isn't giving us that like…at all. I mean sure, nice that Solar Bahamut uses the sigil Hydaelin uses and yes, we encountered a Lunar Bahamut before but the WoL who isn't the smartest anyways just going "Hey, why don't I just fuse these two" feels just so unsatisfying. It doesn't even have to be anything big like the old questlines up to Stormblood, something like the short check ins with our quest buddies like in Shadowbringers would be enough for me

  2. I have mained SAM since stormblood and it got pretty much the same treatment. The lvl 100 ability just changes midare to a stronker midare and all in all I got one extra button to clutter my opener and 2 min window but thats it.

  3. personally i'm fine with Summoner, but I understand why people are disapointed. a lot of piano-key summoners (of which i was breifly one as i switched to summoner from WAR the expansion before it got reworked) were hitting the copium hard saying that endwalker was just square building the base and that they would make it complicated again in DT, right? riiiiight?! But here's the thing, I think squares reluctance to change it really comes down to two things. primarily I think they truly felt that the job is the correct amount of "complex". it adds an option for players who want an easier job to play and it gives SCH healers an option for DPS that is easy to jump into. secondly, the 2 minute rotation has become a detriment at this point to job design. I really feel like they need to break it up so that we stop getting so many job design decisions that reek of "well they needed to do this to align to the 2-min window".

I would have liked to see them allow us to "overcharge" a primal summon as our special treat this expansion. perhaps give us the option of which primal with our rotation that we want to overcharge and give us three new primals. for example titan could overchharge to Laviathan, Ifrit could overcharge to Shiva, and Garuda could overcharge with Ramuh, this would give them a unique twist to their ability and some extra potency (throwing ideas out there, not thinking strictly about balance right now) but things like perhaps leviathan on activation provides a bubble shield to the party, Shiva adds a third hit to the melee combo, and Ramuh adds or converts into a potent dot in a large radius with his version of slipstream (levinstorm or some such)

and yes, the ding is missed.

  4. 🙁 I am sorry, But I enjoyed this kinda gameplay, SMN, Simple and Easy, so I can focus more on doing mechanics and do the right rotation

(btw I prefered it since I can watch stream/tv series also play another game at 2 screen :D)

  5. I honestly agree. Why didn’t we get a Shiva/Leviathan/Ramuh? SMN lore they could use the summons cause they’d been exposed to the aether of said primals. Phoenix gets a pass cause they were technically in the Bahamut raid series so it checks out. But where the hell did Solar Bahamut come from?

Don’t get me wrong, the new Demi looks cool. But I think I would’ve preferred a Shiva/Leviathan/Ramuh phase after a Demi summon and have it be alternating with the Ifrit/Titan/Garuda phase over this.

  6. The gems for every other minute could have been unique Shiva, Ramuh, and Leviathan abilities and it would have been perfect, but heaven forbid we get new mechanics even after level 86. The first set of alternate gem abilities still only being usable for most Endwalker and Dawntrail content is also weird since it makes the job even more braindead for the first 85 levels.

  7. the fact that they took away the fester ding is probably the biggest crime against smn in the history of crimes against smn ): that was the first thing i noticed about the change LOL

  8. I fell in love with FF series thanks to summoners and summoning. I wanted to play FF MMO due to the summoning class. But I can only thank DT for Pictomancer being fun, so I can leave frustrated attempts at keep maining SMN behind and look elsewhere for enjoyment.

Another video here nailed it when talking about creature/minion game feel instead of the many caster skills(which aren't mostly really casterlike, moreso a ranged dps); instead of adding the other primals and fleshing them out with the demi rotations, we got a Bahamuth upgrade as a third demi – instead of, say, Odin or any other interesting option that wasn't a redundant reskin.

  9. mini MSQ spoiler alert

I'm just disapponted that Yoshi doesn't give us Alexander instead of this Bahamut 2.0.
I mean c'mon we have an expansion full of FFXIX references, it was the perfect one to give us that summon T.T

  10. I mean to be fair almost every job is the same as it was in endwalker. Ninja literally got nothing new other than an ogcd to follow tcj, it plays exactly the same. Warrior plays exactly the same, rdm almost exactly the same, healers almost exactly the same, etc. Job changes im general were minimal this expansion.

  11. I was just WAITING for a Larry video lmao. I agree they set the stage in EW and they said "Summoner didn't fit the Summoner job fantasy, so we changed it!" and then in DT they just add nothing. 😭 MNK/DRG got demi reworks, I hope they add onto SMN. I was really hoping for the 3 other summons myself since it just fits the job fantasy.

  12. The problem as I see it is that normal Bahamut is still in the rotation and there's no reason for it. If Normal Bahamut just upgraded into Solar Bahamut then summoner would have a healing thing every minute.

  13. TBH current summoner is the fucking tryhard raider's fault. It was strong but tricky to play so they bitched so much they killed all pet functionality and made it the most braindead dps in the game, hell even tanks have more complex rotations than sum now and i hate it, was my main job since HW but havent touched it other than for leveling or pvp since SHB

  14. It's really rough for summoner because thei either focus on the aesthetics and will basically HAVE to add a new summon/egi per update to keep it interesting or add a bunch of new skills and make the order that you use summons matter and risk making it a real job- I mean add complex design to it. My opinion of the job is that I never suffered with the other versions but EW/DT Summoner makes me fall asleep playing it.

  15. 'Playing summoner has always meant dealing with dumb job design and still enjoying it because you just like summoning things.'
Me, playing Bard specifically for the aesthetic of a job that's got 'creative' influences (music/the concept of being a storyteller) for over ten years despite it's weird job design over the years: 'Yeah…yeah.'

  16. I think it would be nice if SMN, in their rotation, would get new summons that swap out Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan. We've seen other Primals. So maybe, Ramuh, Leviathin, Odin. Y'know, some of those.

  17. Okay but hear me out just give summoner lunar and umbrella stances where they go from base primal to the alt primal sand that bahamama becomes zodiark ans Phoenix becomes hydalyn with different potency’s and effects

  18. Oh, wow! In addition to the hit game, Not Only Nine, Larryzaur was hard at work with FF14's graphical update! He returned after it, it all checks out!

This is basically how I've felt about Summoner lately. I play every caster (I have a problem help)…And the color mages got some changes that altered or expanded how they play a little bit, not a lot but still. And Summoner is basically unchanged. There's really nothing new for me to play around with, and that is pretty disappointing…And I've the same problem with Necrotize! I will have used it all up and keep trying to hit it without realizing because even Painflare has a really distinct sound!

  19. I love Summoner..but my gods……I am so sad how Summoner is now. It was something I felt I could push myself in dmg output. I've put Summoner down and moved to Picto..it feels SO smooth to play and it just does SO much dmg. I hope that we get something better next Expansion 🙁
