Hi everyone! Today I’m taking a break from WoW content to give FF-XIV a try, following in the footsteps of many of you! I’m a total beginner to Final Fantasy 14 so I hope you’ll enjoy seeing the game from that perspective 🙂

  1. I just started it myself, the fetch quests and the slow combat are killing me but literally everyone keeps saying it picks up at level 30 then it gets good at level 50 so i guess i'll be patient, but so far its really boring.

  2. Fun fact: FFXIV and FFXII are part of the same world, so it's somewhat fitting that you thought it felt similar. This is also why the Viera are just called Viera; they aren't FFXIV's version of them, it's just them. In contrast, the Hrothgar are FFXIV's version of the Ronso from FFX, but are named different since they're technically not the same.

  3. I've never actually seen a new player start off with Pugilist. Imo, they're the most fun job to play in ARR because they just want to gogogo and have the fastest GCD with grease-lightning 3. Really good choice.

  4. Unfortunately early game has very little voice lines so you could tire yourself out just reading all those dialogues. Take care and enjoy the game.

Also housing is the most savage content in the game, lol. At least they are expanding housing so you can have chance to get one when new expansion drop.

  5. to anyone that also wants to try ff14 it might be good to know the following Tanks: gladiator/paladin, marauder/warrior. Melee dps: lancer/dragoon, puglilist/monk (pugilist lacks the combo mechanic and has a ton of positionals). Ranged dps: archer/bard. Magic dps: thaumaturge/black mage, arcanist going summoner at lvl 30 (you can freely swap classes so youre not locked out of scholar, also lvls scholar as well), Healers: conjurer/white mage, arcanist going scholar at lvl 30 (you can freely swap classes so youre not locked out of summoner, also lvls summoner as well) there are more classes but those require you to 1 find them and 2 meet the requirements, rogue (melee dps) is the earliest non-starter class you can unlock in limsa lominsa only requiring you to be either lvl 10 (and have completed your lvl 10 job quest) if your starter class starts in limsa or around lvl 15 when you complete the travel via airship quest which also gives you an airship minion

  6. Just throwing this out there, every main city has little Aethernet Shards around the city that lets you go from area to area within said city, and once attuned to all of the shards, you can go outside the gates of the city from them as well. It'll save you a lot of time and leg work in the long run XD

  7. Not sure if this was made clear in the vid or not, but you can save any changes made to your gear once you get another class at Lv10 and be sure to make a new class gear set(the little plus sign in a circle next to Recommended Gear that'll appear once you get a new class)

  8. I cycle between FFXIV, GW2 and WoW but I think FFXIV is my favorite. Good mix of story and gameplay and people are nice as hell. Happy to be back playing it the last month or two. Miss my ele shaman but WoW is just in a rough spot right now.

  9. Nub! Been awhile since I saw one of your vids back in the HotS days. Welcome to the game. Sit down with the libation of your choice and just enjoy the story as it comes. The 2.0 version (aka A Realm Reborn, aka ARR) of the game has it's ups and downs, but there are more ups than downs and it all sets the stage for some really amazing stuff later on. Stick with it and you'll be rewarded richly my friend. Can't wait for cross-DC travel in the future so I can come dump a couple of gifts on ya.

  12. Regarding you considering a gamepad; I used a gamepad for Pugilist/melee jobs because it felt more natural. Kind of like a action game so I could get into position with my left thumb on the analog stick, and perform abilities with my right hand. For casters, I always used a K+M because there wasn't as much movement involved & it was easier to target mobs & party members that aren't directly in front of you.
