  1. This was a great video Airinova and really does encompass my experience with Final Fantasy thus far. Are there some slightly impatient and toxic players in Final Fantasy? Yes. However, I've found those people to be so few and far between that it's pretty astounding. I still have my "toxic WoW thoughts" sometimes, but everyones positivity and willingness to stay determined tends to seep in as a gentle reminder that it isn't necessary and it's okay to just be there, have fun, and enjoy the ride together.

  2. Thank you sir, word for word how I feel. Playing, hearing any version of WoW and blizzard makes me get that heavy shoulders feeling as I’m at a job I hate. I miss the old days but don’t want old games redone over and over. I did 20s ran mythic raids, and it feels a bit repetitive especially this expansion and once I stopped caring and started playing other games and ff14 all that weight and anxiety disappeared.

  3. WoW has a larger emphasis on competitive stuff, right? I think the issue is basically like a sports fan mentality going unchecked for years.

FFXIV doesnt care too much on stuff like PvP content.

  4. Banning players by itself is not a solution. Many games have tried this solution with the same result. They are heavy handed with their banning. This leads to the trolls striking back. The moderation team eventually do not want to actually moderate the game. So, they start banning far less players. This leads to a fake middle where it feels like there is no moderation team. It feels like all the bad apples can get away with whatever they want. Final Fantasy 14 players are toxic. I have personally been flamed by over a dozen players. I do not even play the game. This is even encouraged by part of the FF14 community. It does not matter that it is only part of the community. Because all are guilty to some extent because no one stands up to say this is not alright when any of this flaming goings down. Asmogold's community will not shut up about the troll's targeting him which is it's own type of toxicity. The community can not handle the fact their game is not perfect. The worst people I have met defend the flaws of the game because it is not as bad as World of Warcraft. Which is not a true statement in all regards. FF14 will turn into WoW if the community continues to defend the problems in their own game. If you can not reach end game within a possible amount of time that is failure. It leads to the old server problem where only a small percentage of players can enjoy the full game. This idiot statement commonly made that FF14 does not have an important economy is simply saying the economy is not important enough for them to keep it from being ruined. They are so stupid in their defense of the game they are willing to accept the same old problems of the past because that is just part of what a MMORPG is.

  5. I agree that it's pretty much entirely down to Square Enix in the back-end with their GM force, good work conditions and just generally player focused attitude. I would probably expand it further that because they're player focused, listen and adapt the game properly, it makes the playerbase happier and a happy playerbase is way less likely to be toxic.

Really good video too, you do the video essay style solidly

  6. I've been playing this game for a long time and I have so many good experiences but I think my favorite moment was this. An in-game friend and I decided on achieving something that seemed at the time… stupid to even try… a high enough ranking in the Ishgardian Restoration effort to get The Saint of the Firmament title which meant being in the top 12 of the rankings which is really really hard to do. Now you would think that a ranking system would breed competition and in turn toxicity, it bred plenty of competition but there was never and I mean NEVER a toxic thing said or done while we were crafting our way to our titles in fact a lot of people were super supportive. Conversations were like, 'Oh what crafter leaderboard are you on?' 'Goldsmith' 'Me too! Hello fellow goldsmiths!'. There was a lot of comradery and it just felt great. My friend and I's FC helped us too since in their words it would bring honor to FC and they would go out and get materials for us in the Diadem for our crafter turn-ins. Though not only them but those going for the gatherer leaderboards, whenever they came out of the Diadem would call out "Alright who needs such and such materials" and would hand them out to their crafter brethren also going for high scores on their respective boards, instead of selling the materials for gil. There was also a really great moment where my friend and I were crafting backs to each other (along with couple of others going for high ranks for the title) for the long stretch before the rankings closed. As it got down to the wire we began to gain a huge crowd of people who pulled out their rave stick emotes and started cheering us on… it was things like this that just made me really value this community as a whole. Also if your wondering… yes we both got the Saint of the Firmament title. I was 11th on the Goldsmith Leaderboards and they were 9th on the Leatherworker leaderboards 😀

  7. You make some good points. I think you've pretty much nailed it. A couple other things I think contribute to a non-toxic community would be:

    1) The fact that FF14 is much more of a cooperative game rather than a competitive one. This is probably obvious when it's pointed out, but if you're competing against other players you're more likely to see them as obstacles to overcome rather than something beneficial to you. Just in general, in my experience anyway, the more competitive a game is the more toxic the community is likely to be.

    2) The game has a great story that makes you feel like a hero, and I think subconsciously that can make you more likely to want to be nice to people because heroes are supposed to be good people, right? Whether that actually has much of an affect I couldn't say, but I think it probably does have at least some affect.

There are probably other factors too, but I can't think of them right now.

  8. I kinda feel like I'm watching this from an outside perspective. I started playing XIV in 2015 and have never touched WOW simply because it's not my kind of game, it was only when the most recent controversies with Blizzard popped up that I even heard about the game again. To say I've never encountered toxic people in all my years playing XIV would be a lie because no online game will ever achieve that, but the welcoming and helpful behaviour a lot of players have definitely encourages and fosters that sort of community at large
