I am very new to this game, only been playing about a month though, finally got pulled into it when a friend was making a new character on stream and though I had never played it(or any other Final Fantasy game besides Crystal Chronicals), it evoked a sense of… comfy nostalgia for me… played it for two weeks, then bought the full game because I was enjoying it that much(might be dumb but I also wanted to get sage which wasn't available in free trial xD), I can say it doesn't seem at all to me like it's dying, always people on even in the middle of the night and the few times I have played with randoms the wait time has been pretty short to find them.

  2. the issue isn't Yoshi P or the devs, it's that SquareEnix is taking for granted that we're giving them ~$170 a year to play ff14. They'd rather spend their corporation's money on Panick Donkey Dreamlife 2: Banishing the Mundane because…? than put significant budget into FF14. If anything, we're getting less budget year by year toward the game we actually enjoy.

    And they go "well, the graphics update" — hello, what are we going to be paying $50 for in 8 months? You're telling me that when they produce a brand new game they're not spending any money on the graphics? No, we're spending $170 for the privilege of logging in, but the money they're actually looking for is that $50 from WoW Refugees in July.

Sorry, but solo dungeons is not an investment for the future of the game, it's an investment for SquareEnix to keep raking in a few dollars on the side after the game's scheduled demolition; like NCSoft did to Guild Wars 1. A time when your MMO can't pull 3 other players for a dungeon queue is not a future you want to see.

  4. I'm a veteran player. Almost 10 years now for me. Still playing with friends, Still enjoying playing every week. I got so tired of the content creators moaning about the game dying or about Endwalker being the "Worst" expansion, that I just unsubscribed from all of them and just continued playing. I'm too old for the overhyped drama.

  5. Thank you for the video. I am ready to move forward. There are lot of exciting things to look forward to that I want to set off sailing to a brand new adventure. I love the trailer, which reminds me of the Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Our avatar’s will get a 2.0 upgrade. There are so many amazing things going to happen. As I said before. I cannot wait to start and exploring other parts of Etheirys on new grand adventure. After all, are we not adventurers, I do not want to stay safe in a little cozy cottage in Eorezea. Get out and have some fun.

  6. When I first started the game, I would have KILLED for the ability to run a couple of dungeons with NPCs – Even brain dead ones. I used to play early hours (like 4AM) on Tuesday/Wednesday and the DPS queue for Tam-Tara was over an hour.
    It genuinely annoyed me when I found Adventurer Squadrons, because all those times I sat there waiting when there actually was a mechanic that already existed that would have let me do the dungeon and continue the story.

    I am happy new players do not have to experience what I did, cause nobody early impression of a game should be a "wait simulator".

  7. You're correct, the negativity is way overblown. Honestly it makes sense for them to work on future proofing the game after such a big boom like Shadowbringers. I'm glad they're doing it now.

    But the devs doesn't always keep their promises. It's why they always give such non-committal answers unless they have something solid. The few times they have mentioned stuff (like new hats fitting Viera and Hrothgar after their implementation) and wasn't able to follow through the backlash has been bad. It still is. But you know, shit happens and sometimes they want to do something but end up not having time.

  8. YES! Thank you! The Dumby Dumb videos are just very bad! Like "I'm not attacking, I'm just very upset at these people that don't like what I like which is raiding!" is ALL I got from that guy's video. The game has plenty of stuff to do, people just tend to like ONE thing and when that isn't enough they it's broken, bad, or dying.

    No, the game doesn't need fixed, you just need to stop being so pretentious about a game that has something for everyone.

  9. All I want is for them to change their weekly tome formula which hasn’t changed from ARR when there were 10 less jobs. Also the savage page cost which makes it impossible to bis all 18 jobs. You should be able to bis all jobs between raid tiers. Even if it’s pointless you should be able to if you want to. Otherwise there’s not really a point to having all jobs on one character. Better off making 17 alts and clearing savage 18 times per week. That’s the only way to bis all jobs between tiers which is ludicrous. The tome/page formula NEEDS more altering.

  10. It's just opinions of entitled people who don't know the real appeal of FFXIV. The game is dying? The "problem" might be the lack of content to keep players hooked to it. But thinking objectively there is HEAPS to do in FFXIV. People just don't do EVERYTHING because they don't want to do everything or aren't motivated for it. Even Yoshi-P says that it's ok to play other games and not burn yourself out on XIV.

    It's the pure core of diehard players and fans who keep the game alive. Not as much as some people would like to have it though. The ACTUAL problem are the aforementioned entitled people who burn themselves out because they don't see the game as what it is. A MMORPG in which a LOT of love, story and well thought out content has been put in. A game which lives from it's community and the ideas which have been implemented. Think back: Why has FFXIV made it this far? Because the devs listened to their players. And that's what they have been doing up until now and will continue to do so.
    Veteran players already know: The majority of people come back either on big patches or even small content patches and especially when a new AddOn drops.

    TL;DR: It's okay to have a small or big break of FFXIV because of content droughts. But calling it a "dying MMO" or anything like that can't be further from the truth.

  11. I mean all honesty when is the FF14 coomubity NOT making any troubles? But in this case I can understand it and sympathise with it , the devs kinda brought this trend on themselves. The post msq story had so many ups and downs. And the transformation from the main character into another class kinda left a very sour taste in my mouth because it felt to me they suddenly rewrote this character to fit a redesigned narrative . And I do think they made a huge , huge mistake with putting teasers for the next expansion in the first part of the 6.5 patch .

    I do hope they will announce a lot about the new expansion on Eu and JP fanfest because i do think this time around they will lose content creators for FF14 who will migrate to other games and that is more harmful then anything else. The devs can't afford this trend to keep gaining momentum whatsoever and neither can SE especially since this disaster year. My hope is that they reveal concrete things for the next patch and expansion and that they don't let 6 months between the last patch and the new expansion. BEcause i am pretty sure this will erode FF14's reputation even if it is the community being dramatic the loss of content creators streaming is a big blow for an mmo this old.

  12. I feel the biggest problem for those who say FF14 is dying, and aren't just trying to shit stir, is they want to one game andy ff14. I'm personally glad that the Dev's make it really easy to catch up on content if you happen to take a break from the game. Hell I took a number of breaks in Stormblood, Shadowbringers and Endwalker, but always had an easy way to get back to being current on content when I came back without a fuss.

    That isn't to say ff14 doesn't have problems, but are not nearly as bad as say the WoW Shadowlands era of fall off, that in part I think can also be seen as another source of doomsayers for ff14, with some of them going back to WoW or heading to another game that is more for them as they don't enjoy the sotry focus, "low" amount of raid content, PvP, whatever it might be. If they only knew what the real hell that was 3.0 Heavenwards Raiding was what really nearly killed the game…

  13. I hope they dont wanna copy wow anymore, i like the group content, but some friend say they wiped 600 time to clear one boss last patch, WTF! I dont wanna do this, i just got to 90 and im kinda dont wanna raid and go back to classic wow…

As a "new" player from within the past year, I've definitely benefited from the shorter MSQ in ARR as well as the Duty Support/NPC duties in the game as I also play during odd hours (american on Chaos DC.) Even at those odd hours the game is far from "dying" and you mentioned so many good parts of the game that I either currently enjoy or look forward to experiencing once I unlock them. Also all of your FFXIV videos to date have been fun, helpful, hilarious, and wonderful. Thank you!!!

  15. I don’t think the game is dead. I do think it’s kind of dull (for me only). That might be because I don’t run in an FC or a static so I lack that feeling of community. Maybe it would feel better if I quit being a lone wolf, I dunno.

  17. Hey there! Sprout here! It's clear to see that the game isnt dying and the playerbase is so wonderfully (surprisingly, coming from… other places….) positive interacting with me. I wouldn't be overwhelmed by having stats to increase as I level, but I cannot lie… Im not walking out of the door because I don't have it. Leveling up and everthing else feels great in this game. Be proud of yourselves guys, because a game is only as good as the content and its players. You lot make 14 what it is and ty for having me 🙂

Honestly i am newer this is the first expansion ive started and i started a few months before endwalker finally launched but like i dont see the doom and gloom of "dead game". sure a lot of things shipped out that most people didn't like or the msq was kind lackluster mainly post but its like who cares lol. oh no the game has less players the game is for sure dying: um have you played an mmo where its the content drought between xpacs? thats always and i mean always been a thing in games. like the game isnt dying its perfectly fine we just will have a bit less content for a few months leading into dawntrail.

  19. I feel like this was well said. Its been a rough time for me to properly voice my side. I often feel like I'm not allowed to love the game as much as I do. There's been a certain snob aspect of 'you're ruining the game if you aren't critical enough.' Verbatim ive seen people say that. & all that aside, I really respect how you're approaching the fact that its not as dead as it seems with all the scary talk. No reason to be alarmed old & new players a like. This game actually still one of the most populated and most loved mmorpgs out there, & I hope your video and your channel is what reaches new players.

  20. Thanks for this, I'm sorta on a break due to BG3, but it's fine! And every time I log in, there are players every where, I never wait more than 5 min for queues, it's great. Narrative wise I do think it's a little.. uncertain, but we KNEW that was coming, were warned, one chapter ended, a new one will begin.

  21. One thing that really makes FF14 feel 'dead' for people who have finished what they wanted to do is that the game world is very static. There's nothing dynamic about the open world or economy. It's all so bland and rigidly formulated, with all the game's budget going toward MSQ and raiding that once you're done with that to your satisfaction, there's nothing to do. The illusion that you're in a living world breaks, and you're left with the spreadsheet content of farmville and the market game which is largely bot driven around high dollar RP items. Like, it would add layers upon layers to the game if it just had an economy where items found in the open world had value. The crafting system is stolen from World of Warcraft, where every crafting class does the same thing, and the only materials of value are from the newest expansion, and you can barely break even from crafting.

  22. Tch, I've been playing the game for almost a year now and I still haven't even gotten out of ARR. Just seems like every week I run into something new that distracts me and keeps the MSQ into a drip-feed, lol. Yesterday it was ocean fishing, before that it was PVP, and before that it was filling out my gathering log for mining and botany.

    For me at least, there's still plenty to try out, though I could still see why some folks might feel like their preferred content has run dry especially if they've been playing for over a decade now.

  23. I played for about a year in 2013-14. I picked it back up a month ago. I am having a lot of fun with the game and I’m excited to catch up on the content I’ve missed. Seems like it is thriving to me.

  24. Honestly, I think a lot of veterans have just been bored of the predictable content release pattern which is the double edge sword of stability. Also despite so many people i know saying they didn't like eurkea or bozja I think and from the cry out of it not being there, that grindy end of patch exploration zones like Eureka and bozja give people something to work towards. Sometimes retention mechanic content isn't bad and even asked for which seems to be the case this time.
    All that being said I agree the game is not dying not even close, this drop off happens every expansion. However what most ppl seem to miss is Endwalker or rather the lead-up was an anomaly, it was the end of 10+ year story arc and got so much extra advertisements from streamers that the player base swelled to unheard-of numbers nearly doubling compared to the other expansion growth. Because of this it is expected to have a larger drop-off due to a largely influx of new ppl. Many of them Joined for the end of the story hype train that was endlwalker which concluded within the same expansion so they left and some stayed. Which is all pretty normal.
    The FF14 community is healthy tho a little bored right now and that's okay.

  25. just joined the world of FFXIV in the last week and have sunk so many hours, and yea its been really disheartening seeing all of those videos so thanks for being a reliable hopeful youtuber for the community ^^

  26. Avy, you cheerleader you! I pretty well agree, the game isn't dying, but there are people I've seen move on, and just as many new people in their place.

    I'm at a bit of a stall in my gameplay, but I keep logging and doing a few things here and there. 🙂 Yoshi P said we can break from the game. It's Halloween anyhoo, so Castlevania and Bloodborn call to me!

  27. Right, so… I do have opinions, and the opinions are bound to make some people unhappy and not just the outliers who are unhappy with, well, everyone else's happiness.

    For one, this game has indeed had some flaws and issues dating back to the release of Heavensward, which have, in part, been echoed to a harsh extreme in many of these doomsayer videos we've been seeing. I've sent multiple feedback tickets in-game, made a handful of posts on the official forums, and got no response from the devs. From the community? Lots of mouth-foaming and vitriol from some people who want me to just shut up and enjoy the game or else go play something else, on one hand, and open discussions on the other, such as when I made a long, 6-part post a week before Eureka Pyros came out detailing most of what I had disliked about Eureka at the time. The devs did tweak a few things about Eureka, but Yoshi would go on to say erroneously that maybe people just didn't want to play some homage to old-style MMOs; except that wasn't it so much as pre-Echo Eureka taking a lot of the worst parts of FFXI and its era of MMOs, and gave us so little in the way of what had made those old MMOs good or functional. So I feel that perhaps, in addition to thousands of vocal players saying multiple different things, there might be some disconnect or language barrier at play that makes it harder than necessary for Yoshi to accurately interpret what we do or don't like.

    That said, I've noticed some dishonesty at least from the game's PR. They have been advertising that there are 27 million players, which is beyond false. There may have been so many copies sold, but how many of those copies are people who've dropped the game, or farming bots that keep coming back despite being "banned" (I have doubts, but that's a topic for another day), or people who multi-box this game for whatever reason like that one guy and his fc on Gilgamesh who've bought up a ward's worth of houses? The game is active for sure, but the population is probably closer to a 20th of those advertisements claims when a content patch releases. I do not like disingenuous ads, and seeing that 27 million number disappoints me greatly. That's a problem with marketing, like I said, not with the game itself.

    Now then, I recently retired from the achievement hunt. About five years ago, I was about #8 or 9 on the Gilgamesh server for points, but then life came along to demand too much attention, so I fell to about #17 to 19. Even at my highest, I looked at what I had left and found a lot of months or years-long time-gated achievements, lots of "Do x y-thousand times," or "Do this content until you finally get lucky." Before I retired from the hunt, I was at 82% achievements and decided that an underpaying job would be a better use of my time and energy, rather than paying money every month to grind my time away. I'll still play the game and hang out with my friends, but I'm done with anything that requires so many hours of doing a thing before the game decides I have made some progress.

    I think Island Sanctuary was the last straw for me. There was so much potential for it to be good on launch, and then built upon over patches, but it was a severely limited copy of one of the worst things from Warlords of Draenor but with spreadsheets and copious levels of clicking on things attached. Ironically, one of the things that could have made the materials gathering less painful or tedious was a feature Warlords of Draenor had for some of its garrisons – the ability to interact with things while riding around on our mounts. No, really, having to re-click Island Sprint adds to the clicking, and so does re-mounting. The QoL changes came so late, like the ability to turn landmarks; why wasn't this day 1? When we could finally place outdoor furnishings, placement zones were limited to just outside of our buildings–not even on the walkways nor on the grass outside of those zones–and we couldn't put things against the building walls either, so no turning one side of a workshop into a barbeque grill for me. I really wanted to put the dinosaur bones inside the rocky walls of one area, but can't unless I were to use the all-too-forbidden mod (which I won't).

    The stance against mods is too extreme. Speaking as a cook who takes pride in her work, I understand the feeling the devs might get when someone else were to season their product further, but sometimes we have top examine our work and ask if we should enhance the flavor a bit, embrace and allow things like sweeteners or salt shakers, or to take the dickish route and say "We are looking into adding a little pepper flakes to this item, but will throw out and ban anyone who so much as says the words 'add a little salt.'" To me, Yoshi and his team is leaning hard on the latter position when it comes to all add-ons, rather than just the intrusive or bad ones. Even back when they said "Just don't screenshot or talk about it," there was a serious undertone of people getting the axe for things that shouldn't have been axe-worthy, all the while numerous gil-farming bots continue to gather beneath the Limsa aetheryte unchallenged.

    We do need to have serious discussions about what the game needs so it can grow. Accessibility is good, but stripping certain content or ability sets of their use or flavor serves no one. Fluid Aura used to be decent when it did damage and had knockback, but then damage was taken away in Stormblood and the knockback in Shadowbringers, until Fluid Aura was finally removed in Endwalker to some cheers and nearly-zero memory of the good it once had. Some dungeon pulls used to require a little thought or know-how in order to get them down efficiently, but that was taken away. Heck, I remember running ARF (the first lv60 dungeon) and using Fluid Aura to position a ranged mob to be next to another mob, and a third of my tanks being grateful. I could go on, but this comment is already getting long for all I'm trying to say.

    Yes, a serious discussion between Yoshi and the fans needs to occur. There should be an active channel of constructive criticism rather than mockery for thinking something can and should be better than it is. Issues dating back so many expansions should be properly analyzed and addressed so the game can continue to flourish with its own sense of identity. These are parts of a greater whole, and a greater whole can suffer when it ignores the smallest things for too long. The game is not dying, not yet, but there are legitimate flaws, even if parts of those flaws are dialed up to 11 by members of our drama llama loving community. I love this game. I want other people to love this game. Being blind to one position or another doesn't help people love this game who, by all rights, should have the opportunity to love it.
