A wise man once said. Fire III, Fire IV, Fire IV, Fire IV, Fire, Fire IV, Fire IV, Fire IV, Despair. And I still think about that.

this is the only guide on youtube that I even remotely understood. nice.
FALSE (only one point)
Sleep is good in the following usecase :
Tank die in a pull, use sleep, letting the healer time to rez the tank and bulk the group up
Sleep is aoe and sleep monsters around the targeted monster too.
SAM from SCH, an interesting jump there, love to hear how that happened, for more deeeeepppssss probs
A Sam main who use to be a scholar main. LOL, me too.
how black mage can be the most final fantasy job if i can still see your face
Yeah, BLM definitely scales in difficulty with content. Doing easy shit? Its a breeze. Doing actual end game content? Enjoy one of the most nightmarishly difficult to optimize and play correctly jobs there are. Also as a BLM you don't have a choice but to learn how to optimize in end game, because if you don't and can't play the fight perfectly, you won't be the top DPS, and a BLM that isn't top DPS doesn't have a place in the group lmao.
Trying to play Black Mage in hard content feels like trying to grab a flaming hot baked potato covered in tinfoil.
Toasty flare or chill flare. Let me tell you that i died of laughter for 10 minutes at least
honestly the more guides i watch the more i get confused and wonder if ill ever be able to figure this shit out and i mean that for all of the jobs not just black mage
Scathe is only for killing fleshy pods instantly in Toto-rak, especially when running your GC squadron.
Best guide for BLM out there! Thank you!
Hey! we Machinists are not selfish, we brings.. uh, Peloton to the group.
I'll never play BLM for savage. I have enough fun blasting some dungeons now and then, no need to fucking learn rocket science just to know the perfect movement strategy required for every. single. fight.
Ive been a blm since 2.0 and this a real refined and amazing guide Good Job 🙂
It sounds like they should rework it, to get rid of the clutter and make it less sps dependent, but do I know, I'm smooth brain and can only rdm as my caster lol
alg
i only picked black mage cause of some blind sun cat… i shouldve known she was a scion for a reason.
……please i just wanna understand
Misshapen Chair will always be one of my favorite XIV content creators 😭 mans taught me everything I know about tanking
i think i messed up when i decided to make this my first job :/
"Casting is better than not casting"
> scathe
I use Scathe. Im a Scathe mage
Black mages were my favorite in everything until ff14 lol
Scathe does have one use. When you're chasing after the tank pulling trash, you have an instant cast string of damage. But yeah. Otherwise useless.
I played whm until 40 where we wiped so hard I quit healing and played an “easy dps”. I played black mage until stormblood until I quit because I had such a hard time in siren song sea, and became a dark knight main. Now, nearing endwalker I took up black mage again and realized I had been playing the class COMPLETELY WRONG. I really think classes like black mage need in game guides, as well as any other class.
Great video!
The best tip I’ve seen for reliable slide casting is adding an emote to your hot bars. Once it brightens/looks ready to use you can move without canceling your spells.
I have been playing since 2.0 and have never understood Black Mage until this video
Funny guy
I’m so lost that it hurts
so… wait … I have to adjust? Not the Healers?
the fuck is this nonsense …..
Joking aside. good video, and as I'm actually leveling Black Mage at present. on topic for me.
Caster abilities feel like they were named by the most unimaginative person alive. Seriously
I started as a Black Mage, became a healer main and got all my healers to 80, and then finally gave Black Mage another shot. The job isn't whatsoever functional until level 60 and only feels like it's functioning properly after 72. Starting as Black Mage is the worst idea ever. The earliest I'd recommend levelling it is after HW.
This is more complex than my differential equations class.😭💀
All utility BLM had was removed (with exception of Addle but thats something every magic dps have). Apocastasis was removed, Manashift was removed, BLM is selfish dps by design, sadly.
I agree that mastering BLM is hard. In Savage content, you need to have deep knowledge of fight, more than any other job(imo). You have to plan ahead few steps to maximize that few windows, where you dont have to move and can go hard on damage, while keeping eye on your Enochian while you have to move. I can do my rotation blindfold, but doing it while doing other things fight demands you to do can be pretty difficult. Its easier than it was in HW, because you have skills that helps you now, but theres less windows in content and mechanics are closer together.
Ok i start this Flare thing as new post. Chill Flare is nonsense. Casting Fire III will not cost you ice stack and it cast very fast from Umbral Ice, you always want to go hot.
Assuming you always start with at least one ice stack, your options after Fire III are:
Tripple Flare, Tripplecast – Flare – Flare – Convert* – Flare
As second round you go with
Double Flare, Flare – Swiftcast – Flare
Because Convert has so long cooldown, you'll get your Tripplecast off cooldown sooner, so you can go with
Alternative Tripple, Tripplecast – Flare – Flare – Foul(another Swiftcast – Foul can follow, but Swiftcast is better used for Double Flare as it has longer cast time).
After that you're left with hardcasting, if enemy group is still big, you can use Ley Lines to speed up casting Flares, but its usually mostly dead. You always return with Freeze and Thunder IV(+Foul if available), that gives you enough mana for another round.
* Convert was renamed to Manafont(XI reference), but i keep calling it Convert. I hope they shorten its cooldown in Endwalker. 180s is way too much.
2nd video I watched. Ur funny. Videos are fun to watch. Ur teir list was awsome!
What the fuck is scathe good for at any level?
Another neat utility you can put to use is having a stack of Mega-Ethers in your hotbar.
They restore 800 MP which is the minimum cost to pop a Despair/Flare, it's essentially a second Manafont with 2 minute longer cooldown.
I actually wanted to play FFXIV and immediately wanted to create Black Mage because of Vivi from Final Fantasy 9.
What key bind set up are you using?
slidecasting since level 1 but the fuck is weaving? I noticed that sometimes when I slidecast even if I am half a second out of a telegraphed I still take damage as if my character was still hardlocked to the spot where I casted
Dam thats soo true. I havrnt cast scathe in years. Wtf. Didnt even remember that skill exist. Its like the step child that everybody keeps forgetting to invite to the party.
Wait where was triple cast in all this? It’s useful when you know you only have little time before you move out of an incoming aoe. Also i used swift cast often because having no utility, it’s an easy fix to speed your rotation. Also having ether is a lifesaver and also add that one last kick in your rotation.
Having options will help because boss fights have varied timings.
Xenoglossy should have been an upgrade from scathe.
